   Look through them and only submit your site to those with pagerank of 4 or better. You'll have plenty to do!

   adria: blog catalog is considered a directory, so is spicy, bumpzee, and mybloglog. i ask because sometimes when i visit blogs, on their sidebar or at the bottom, i see the many directories folks belong to, and then i feel like i don't belong to enough. and yes, novelish, it is quite time consuming.

   Five at the moment. I've seen tons more, but many look awful, or they want you to pay for an entry, or they're full of splogs. Running these sites seems to be quite a fad. The more I see, the better BlogCatalog looks.

    I don't mind the link, as long as they can find the thing. But the link requirement keeps me from submitting my name to less than professional looking directories.

    Check list before submit our site to directories is keep up post great content, post frequency, and update often. The traffics will come if we post great content. Sometime free directories can't guarented traffics will keep coming.

    Ask any SEO expert and they will tell you that backlinks are a crucial aspect to blog promotion, so submitting your blog to blog directories is beneficial if not from the little bit of traffic you’ll receive from it, but the backlink from a site with a high PR.
    
    I have not kept count, but I know I have submitted to those with a pagerank of five or more.

    wow! this was an old thread, i started it back in June, and it got resurrected today. cool.
    
    well, i will have to submit again to a series of directories, since switching over to new wordpress blog, and new URL. work work and more work. blogging is alot of work, for sure.

    None, 'cept here and mybloglog. Too busy loading the main site into a list of 960 directories. The ones that want recip links, I simply skip (unless they offer me a cool sidebar widget that shows avatars!) as there are so many out there, you can pick and choose.

    Depends on what you call "directories."
    
    In the broad sense of the word, pages with links to pages which have some sort of common content, I have no idea how many directories I'm on. Probably hundreds.
    
    I didn't work at that: a DMOZ submission several years ago seems to have gotten distributed one way or another to directory sites which run the gamut from professional through well-intentioned, to ghastly and incoherent.
    
    Oh, well, as long as people follow the links and find what they want, I'm satisfied.
