How Many Of You Have Your Own Domain?

I was just wondering how many BC members have there own domain. How long did it take for your domain to go through after transferring from blogger or wordpress?

I started my blog on my own domain from the beginning. I figured it was a bit more professional looking.

Your domain will take up to 72 hours to propagate once you point the DNS entries to your hosting account.

You can start working on the new blog immediately, however, by adding the domain/ip to your hosts file.

  Question on that - because I already have a domain with the front page being used as, well - the front page, do I create a file for my blog something like; domainname/blog (.) com and then let readers know that my blog is moving?

  Actually, it would be either domainname.com/blog OR blog.domainname.com.
  
  But sure, you can definitely put it in a subdomain and use the "front" page as a landing page. That is actually a good way to go.

  Yes - I meant that. I knew doody about propagation when I first got my domain, so my blog has been at the blogspot address since then. I'm waiting for a stretch where I have nothing going on to do it - thought it seems that just happened and I missed my opportunity because of homefires burning.

I had a domain before I started using Blogger. Then I just turned it into a blog site and have Blogger publish to my web host.

I think with Blogger you can get a domain name through them. Don't know about Wordpress. It's definitely a "better looking" address in my opinion when you go with the personalized domain.

And yes, it takes up to 72 hours (as Dane said) but I've had it propagated sooner than that.

  Yeah, my favorite combo for quick new sites is USACheapDomains.com and HostForWeb.com
  
  I'm usually propagated within minutes when I use those two together.

PS.

If you already have links coming in to your blogger/WordPress/Other hosted blog, you want to replace each post on the old blog with a link to the same post on the new blog, a short couple of sentences about the post to let people know it's worth clicking through and an explanation that the blog has moved and how to update bookmarks and links.

  I dont understand. I thought that my old url will redirect to my new domain and that includes the post urls too. Thats what I was told.

  I think the days of domain squatting are over... I wouldnt buy a domain from some dood that has it just to have it. Their are plenty of names out there.

I down two domains. One has my personal blog on it and the other is parked awaiting a future project.

I have like 10 domains, from which only 2-3 i use at the moment and the rest are reserved for the bunch of ideas i have in my head:D

buying domains is like getting a tattoo - once you've got one, you want more.

i only have one tattoo, but i've got plans for a couple more.

I have a few domains bought but only 8chocolate.com is live. Domains are so cheap these days that if you think you have dreamed up a good site name, purchase it and you have a year to decide if you want to do anything with it. You should be able to get them for under $1 a month.
