How many of you here own yourname.com ?

Now, I have one of the most uncommon name (Shardul) and when I tried to register a domain of my name today, it was already parked and the cost exceed a $1000 !...

I registered a .net tld in front of my name and started my personal blog !

So how many of you here are lucky enough to get yourname.com as a domain name ? (eg. johnthomas.com, marywilson.com)

I do own my own name--but the websites aren't running (I only have email access). The only two website I have running are my business one, which is www.virtuallearningassociates.com and my blog, which is blog.melindaville.com

I have my own name, traceygrady.com. For a long time it was in use (by a real estate agent, I think) but then it became available. My blog is traceygrady.com/blog.

I never thought about using my name alone.

I do have www.KristiLinauerInteriors.com but it's not my blog.

I do finally have my own, real, purchased URL for my blog, though (instead of blogspot.com), but it's not my name.

Because the major domain was taken with your name,Shardul.com, you shouldn't buy dot net domain for the same name. Because most of the people will go to dot com without of dot net.

But the great part is that, if the dot com is parked for $1000, the dot net will be required too in the future and you could sell the dot net in high price

I know my name will be taken, it should be www.sutanto.com but I don't like it,
so I come out with my English name "Sayz Lim", it turned out it was SAYZ software, luckily my blog still ranked in the frontpage... rank 8 for keyword "Sayz"... now it is sayzlim.net

I don't, partially because I figure people might not necessarily remember how to spell my last name correctly. So I don't think being myname.com will help people find me.

Is that a consideration for any other people?

No, unfortunately mu name is taken... however building a 'persona' around recruitmentnick.net (also own .com and .co.uk) seems far easier from a branding point of view

I do. On a whim, I checked to see if it was available last year and to my suprise it was (I have a relatively common name). I went ahead and registered it before someone else got it.

I am rather new to all the .com stuff so would like to check into getting my own name, although I confess I don't know what I'd do with it or if it is wise to have my full name as a .com. How is this done and does it cost a lot of money?

I own my name and have set up domain mapping with my wordpress blog so that my blog points to my domain. As opposed to onlinecommunitystrategist.wordpress.com, I go by blog.angelaconnor.com.
I think it's the best way.

I wasn't able to get my name as a .com but I was able to get my first intial and last name as .biz ( ldawson.biz ) which is working out well.
