For those who need to know!
Why Ping Service?
Ping services allow you to automatically notify blog directories and search engines that your blog has been updated. The bigger your ping list the higher the chances of receiving traffic from those sources, so check out the list below and include it on your blog (Wordpress users can modify their ping list on the Control Panel, then Options, then Writing).
For wordpress hosted blog users, click writing under setting tab and add the following on the Ping fields. You can add more if you like.

This is a simplified answer and if you want an expanded one you can use the forum Discussion searchbox in the sidebar and find I have answered it many times. -->
A ping is a notification sent by one computer to another telling it to come a pick up a package of digital information. In this case the ping is sent when you publish a post and the ping service in turn pings multiple other sites for you.
We bloggers use a ping service a service to update different search engines that your blog has updated.

This is a word of caution. I know several bloggers who went hog wild with adding pinging services. They were declared to be "ping spammers" and the services in question booted them. Ping services ping multiple sites and when you choose to have more than one ping service an overlap can occur where the same site is being repeatedly pinged by more than one service. When that occurs repeatedly you can be viewed as being a "ping spammer".
In my case and the case of all others with wordpress.COM blogs or wordpress.ORG software pingomatic is built in. I have added only two extras. One is for a direct Technorati ping and one a direct ping is for BC. rpc.blogcatalog.com/ -
