How many posts do you display on the home page of your blog? i display 5 posts. wemakeyoulaugh.blogspot.com Some bloggers who have their blog at their own domain, just provide the sneak peek of the recent posts. it's also possible if the template supports it.

    anybody wants to answer my question, eh?

    I do three. It's enough to give new folks a good idea of the stuff I post. And it's not so many that you have to scroll twenty miles south just to see them all.

    I display 16 but some of my post are in excerpt form as to not greatly slow down peoples computers when they visit my front page.

    I do five so you get a wks worth of my randomness.

    Five, because I write a lot and any more than that would require a lot of scrolling.

    I do ten. In the past I supposed this number necessary for a representative display of my writings. May be to much, now I am considering to reduce to five.
    But I think that it must be correlated to how long usually the posts are.

    no matter your posts are long or short, displaying few posts also has a disadvantage: most of the posts go unread by readers. but we have to display fewer posts considering all the advantages all you guys have posted above:(

    In my personal blog on my own domain I have a wordpress.org install. The theme I use is a magazine style theme that displays excerpts on the front page. I adjust my number of posts displayed on the front page depending on the factors listed below, all of which affect page loading time for readers:
    (1) the length of the posts;
    (2) whether or not the posts include images or embeds;
    (3) how many links the posts include - note that there is maximum number of links on front page guideline - some search spiders like Google's will stop crawling and indexing when they reach approximately 100 links on a front page.

    On my free hosted wordpress.com blog I have chosen a theme that displays a maximum of 3 posts and that is programmed to display by default the full length of the longest post. As this creates a very uneven distribution and large white spaces when the posts are not of the same length, I insert the "read more" tag into my posts to balance the amount displayed on the front page. I also take into account the factors that I have mentioned above when inserting the "read more" tag into posts.

    One last factor I would like to mention is that it's a fact that most people surfing the net are on dial-up service and page loading time is a very important factor when it comes to choosing to read blogs or not.

    I hope this helps you and wish you happy blogging.

      @Jake
      Remember that you asked. My answer is "yes". IMO you either need to insert the "read more tag" into the posts on your front page or reduce the number of posts. How many times do you have to scroll? How much scrolling are readers prepared to do?

      well i took your advice, and i think it works a lot better this way, thanks a bunch

    I display 10.

      @Harvey
      Do you change that number "10" to adjust for the length of the posts? or do you always just leave it set at "10" regardless of the length of the posts, the number and size of the images and/or embeds they contain? If you don't then I recommend that you do consider changing the number to balance based on the factors I have listed above.

    10. but my blog is poetry so... eh.
  13. coolbuster
    i display six but these are summaries so the homepage will look like I am displaying only one.
  14. LeighP
    I have 9, just excerpts though, not much scrolling involved and then people only have to click through to the ones that catch their eye.

    0. I have a static homepage with maybe a couple dozen aphorisms. I have 15 post titles in recent posts in right sidebar; I also have categories and archives (both with posts) in left sidebar.
  16. CrystalRaven
    it depends on the length of the posts, usually 3-5 for me
    1. timethief
      IMO that's one factor (ie. length of posts) to be mindful of.

    LOTS, BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE LAZY

    5, because I show the whole article and I tend to be wordy. Could be even less I think, but I rarely click to the second page myself but at least skim the first page so I thought others would do that too...
  19. eastonellsworth
    I do five but usually show just a chunk of the article. Very few of the folks that find my blog actually visit the homepage. That's probably the case for most blogs, because so much traffic flows from search or social media to individual posts/pages on a blog.
  20. saiffarooqi
    I only have 11 posts so far, so i display 10 ... when i have more posts then i might reduce the number ...
  21. umesh
    i display 7 posts
  22. idealpinkrose
    mine is 5...and some of my posts are too short...
  23. KevinParker
    I generally do 5 posts in one page.
  24. legbamel
    I show five on my grammar blog and six on my music blog, where the posts tend to be shorter. I usually key off the length of the sidebar, which I fill until I think it's full, and then try to use enough posts to go just past that length without causing the four-hour scroll. I'm pretty conservative about widgets, though, so that strategy may not work for everyone.

    I also do 5 ultimateuggs.com/
    but i see some of the high pr blog display 10 and sometimes even more there must be a reason for this.
