How Many Posts Do You Have On Your Page?

Topics: blog posts, search engines
I have recently read off someones blog tips that it's better to have 15-20 posts on your blogs front page because the search engines love meaty sites.
I was lead to believe 3 or 4 would be better because the blog looks and feels better.
I prefer the 3 or 4 because it makes the site easier to use and looks cleaner.
What's best to do. Thanks.

I have never heard/read that having 15/20 posts on the first page is seo trick. have you seen any SEO blogs which have 15-20 posts on the first page? name one please.
i have heard that having less pages on the first page helps to load that page quickly. and quickly loading pages are more reader friendly as most of the readers are not patient at all.
I have 3 posts on my home page and i'm not planning on increasing the number any time soon.
best wishes.

It is an absolutely personal decision.
I really dislike short, stumpy posts that ask you to move to another place, if you want to complete reading those posts. I like to see only four or five COMPLETE posts on one page, with all the text and photos stretched out before my eyes.
But other people have clearly said that you need to appeal to potential readers in the first 10 lines of a post. If you haven't captured their attention by then, they won't want to see reams of your writing and photos. -

I disagree with this statement and find it to be misleading. Unless what you are referring to 15 to 20 posts that each contain less than 25 words and absolutely no images or embeds, I believe this "advice" wrong on more than one level.
(1) Some search spiders stop indexing when they reach approximately 100 links on the front page of your blog, and all the links in your sidebar are included in that count.
One method of reducing the number of links on your front page is to insert the "read more" tag into the text so only an excerpt appears on the front page.
(2) Also I have never observed any blogs belonging to A list or B List bloggers than feature more than 6 or seven front page posts, depending, of course, on the variable length of each of those posts.
(3) Page loading time increases along with the number of posts you choose to place on your front page, and with the amount of script, widgets, images, and embeds you have on that page.
(4) Readers are NOT inclined to scroll more than a couple of turns of the mouse downwards on a front page. Mile long front pages not only take a longer time to load but also require excessive scrolling.
I'd like to suggest that you read this post and reconsider the advice you have been given: Blogging: Strategies for reducing page loading time

I have 7 posts on my first page. I don't think that's too much but it actually depends on the posts ! Long, short, with or without pictures, heavy paragraphs or "air" between lines...
