   In 2003, I don't have any spam protection. I got 1200 spam. Well. You may say that is not a lot.
   
   How about 1200 spam comments in one hour. I have to shut down my blog and remove the comment code totally ..

   My site was live for about 10 months before I installed the anti spam plugin. I think the spammers found out and tried to exploit me.
   
   The 57k is from the last month alone!!! I only get about 50 uniques a day right now so all that spam is automated...

       What would you recommend instead? So far, Akismet has only incorrectly labelled one comment as spam on my blog. And that was because it was in Russian.

       I normally suggest Spam Karma, but there other alternatives.
       
       I recently wrote an article on how I set up Spam Karma, and it can be used with Akismet, but remove the possiblity of false positives

       If you are on blogger, you have their CAPTCHA system - that is it, nothing more.
