Just curious - how many of you use AVG - and what do you think of it?

I've been a McAffe fan for years. Until yesterday.

My subscription expired and I wasn't in the mood to go dig out my CC - or to go to the store to buy another subscription.

So I downloaded AVG.

And surprise me - it found 2 trojans that McAffe had overlooked - AND it sped up my computer load time.

PLUS - when I went to the search engine GOOGLE - it showed me that the websites were OK or NOT ok to look at.

VERY cool.

I am sincerely impressed - I mean - FREE and all. Like I said - I've been a big McAffe and have always used SpyBot, Teatimer, etc.

I guess at this point I would certainly recommend it to everyone.

So have you used it?

I used to use AVG...then it started pissing around and didn't update and my computer started getting upset...it also took bloody ages to update whenever I started my computer up which annoyed me...so I switched to Avira...which I find much better...doesn't make me wait for it to update or scan, just does it quietly in the background...all that it does is give me a pop-up every day at about 4am advertising their premium option...oh, and it makes a threatening BEEP if there's a threat so that I know...

I have been using AVG for the last four years and i am satisfied with it. One advantage is that it is free.

When my free subscription ended months back I went with AVG as well, it hasn't let me down yet and is very customizable if necessary.

Polybore has always used AVG free (so that must be about 8 years). It is great.

Only one slight complaint with it is that as the years have gone by and it has added more features it is getting a bit bloated ie. uses more system resources like RAM. For this reason polybore is likely to abandon AVG later this year when microsoft releases "Morro".

I used it earlier but I wasn't happy with it. However, it bought the rights to my favourite virus scanner some time back, which I used to be a big fan of. It didn't do my favourite much good though, the migration of the two wasn't as good so I stopped using it. Maybe they have gotten over the transition period now. I'll have to give it another go after your praise!

I have used Norton and F-secure, amongst others, and it feels to me like the way that these programs protect you from viruses is that they hog up so many resources that there's no more left for the viruses to work!
