On average, say every week or every month, how much money do you spend on promotion for your blog?

Do you use adwords to promote your blog? buy links on other blogs? buy traffic from sites like stumbleupon? directory paid inclusions?

So far I haven't spent anything on advertising my blog. I rather want to build up strong content the next months and if that does not do the trick then I'll perhaps consider spending money on advertisements.

I haven't spent dollars, but I have spent a lot of time. And I have my blog linked on other sites I own that I do spend dollars on so there are indirect dollars spent. But mainly it's just hours, and hours, and hours, and...
  3. Billiam
I have never spent a dime promoting my blog and I only spend an hour or less per day working on it. I don't blog to make money. I blog to give back to society and introduce people to music they might not have heard or that may not be available where they come from.

Same here as churchofintegrity, kathiemt and billiam.... haven't spent a dime to promote, though I'm not against the idea.

The way I'm hoping to promote my blog is to build quality content, and if and when I make some money, I intend to put that money back into the blog--the blog has to make money to invest in itself!

Anyways, there's a pending $50 in free Google ads from my web host that I got when I signed up. Plan to use that up sometime son.

Hmmm, I spent a few hundreds up to now... a classified ad on FARK, a virtual business card on bla.st, And I plan to sponsor a category on here as soon as they start accepting paypal :).
    1. jphillips
      yep, i'll sponsor one too!
I'm also thinking of spending 50 bucks on stumbleupon, see how it goes.
    2. kiltak
Oh, what do you plan to promote, your front page?
    3. jphillips
yep, either my front page or one of my post, not sure yet, but i think i'll order 1000 clicks/$50, see if the people it brings to my blog will subscribe to my feed or reply to some posts
Have you ever used stumbleupon Kiltak?
    4. kiltak
Yeah, I always stumble up my post after writing one... I get a few thousands hits from them each month...
    5. jphillips
Cool, i started doing that too, will see how it goes
You never purchased any clicks from stumbleupon? It seems to take forever to have them approve a campaign
  6. zakman
I thought this forum was supposed to be in English???

Then why kiltak and jphilips are speaking Greek or Jupiterese? lol... I don't have the faintest idea how you 'purchase' links or a 'virtual business card' etc but don't worry I'll get there
    1. kiltak
Actually, we're both from a very secretive race called the "Kebecker"
    2. jphillips
      lol, the "kebecker"! haha
purchase links, that can mean a lot of different things, for instance buying "traffic" from stumbleupon, or text-link-ads and stuff like that, and virtual business card, you can check out bla.st (blas [dot] st) , and you can purchase an "online business card", well you can create one for free (which links to your blog) but if you pay a certain amount you get better exposure

So how much is it to get a internet business card? Do you think it's worth it?

One too many hours and not enough cheddar ($$). For the past two days, all I have been seeing (and commenting on) in Basecamp (basecamphq.com) for one of our projects, Simulagent, is Adwords this, Google Certified Professional that and Google certified company. It is all very interesting and inspiring. I am just getting into it- www.google.com/adwords/learningcenter/index.html

As for now, all I have been doing for ScottPot and Wallhogs is getting involved as best I can in great communities/neighborhoods like these, keeping my posts regular, reading as much valuable info that I can (Netvibes-RSS) and interacting with as many great sites as I can. Thanks to BC (blogcatalog), I have stumbled upon some more great sites (and have become attached to these wonderful discussions!). Oh, and speaking of stumbleupon, I am slowly but surely becoming better acquainted...and I luv it!

I would also love to promote my blog in a big way. And I would be a hypocrite to say that I'm not here for the money. I want to make as much money as possible from my blog. what is the cheapest way to increase quality traffic to my blog? By 'quality' traffic I mean, the real traffic who would be interested in my blog. And not just come and click the page just for the heck of it.
    1. lyndonmaxewell
cheapest way? Participate in the blogosphere actively - link exchanges, comment exchanges, scout around and build up contacts. Guess what? It's free.
    2. dharmagypsy7
write something that everyone wants to read.... having an awesome content is a start I think... unless you are like on whiz on design and technical stuff... or marketing stuff... browsing the net this past week has taught me a lot...
  9. btocher
I've spent plenty of time, but no money. I agree with Lyndon - meaningful comment exchanges work wonders.

I haven't spent a dime. I do spend a lot of time though, posting to other blogs, writing new content though. I just started a Blog Carnival too, call Interior Design Carnival, so I am sure that will take some time too, but I am taking a more measured approach in building slowly as I learn more and more.

no money...just time ...long hours!! hard work!!
  12. ThriftShopRomantic
I spent $10 to be listed in one directory which was pretty targeted. That's it. Mostly it's just talking to people with similar interests. As ConfessingGirl said, it's long hours and hard work. But it's really rewarding. People on the whole have been incredibly nice and supportive.

I also write articles occasionally for free for a thrifting organization that has an online monthly magazine. Again, it's time, and finding the places and good people that make sense to share the time with.

    It's a pretty good life, really. :-)

    No money. Time.
  14. stevens8204
Mostly I do all the promotion...but I don't spend money on it because good ole fashioned word of mouth is still a pretty good way of generating traffic. It lets the content do the talking. Maybe when we get better...we'll have to. Right now though, its more about striving to put out quality content and let the reader decide if they like it or not..then they tell 1 person who tells another...etc...etc...etc.
  15. iluvmonkeys2
    ditto...no $$$...lots of time...

i don't spend any thing in promoting my blog. i enjoy with blogging but i have no money to spend on it
  17. VampireFaust
So far I haven't spent any money but I do commit an two to three hours every day strictly to promotion and networking.
  18. VioletsVintage
I don't spend anything to promote my blog but used google adword to promote my shop....I found it confusing and it didn't get me any sales, just a few more clicks. I kept getting billed after I thought I cancelled it too. I think handing out flyers/cards to promote blogs and stores can work too (and you can make them yourself.)
  19. Sigmar
I spend avsolutely zip. I don't think it's necessary. I'm just working on my conent and hoping the word will get arround if I give the "word" a nudge in the right direction.

No $ except the free flowers contests and free flowers for 2008 that we have written off for the next 2 years. Other than that its a passion for connecting, learning and enjoying all leading up to that elusive group hug that we will make reality one day....

If people send flowers from our site great, if not, then still great!

I just tried $75 on stumble/ads .. redirecting to that halloween site I started .. I'm gambling that it doesn't eat it all in 3 days and I figured, well it's a timely thing now or next year. You all can go visit my site and it won't cost me $0.05 per hit! lol
