With strenuous effort in the outdoors the amount of water you drink must of necessity increase. You will be losing body water due to sweating, heavy breathing, the possessing and elimination of food, and desiccation from wind and dry air. Without replacing all the water you lose you run the risk of dehydration and decreased efficiency.

Two quarts of water per day is a general rule of thumb, if you are in humid or hot weather this then you will require more to avoid dehydration

Water is auto-regulated in human bodies.

Human bodies have mechanism to regulate its own fluid balance reaching a continuum of equilibrium state.

The water intake should be guided by the thirst awareness and individual feeling.

Forcing oneself to drink certain quantity of fluid is not only potentially harmful but also impart significant impact on the cognition.

I have seen elderly surviving on one cup of tea a day to maintain her kidney function. This is purely that her fluid requirement is not as high as some of us
