If you had a warrant for your arrest, do you really want to attract attention to yourself during a traffic stop?

Hell no! Been there and done that. I'm still scared of cops even though I've been in recovery from heroin addiction for over 15 years. The first few years I was in recovery, I would go into a total panic if a cop car was behind me. It took me five years to stop reaching into my boot (where I used to hide my drugs).

When I was using, I would get stopped randomly by cops when I was in the jects scoring--I was always very polite but there are a few asshole cops who will mess with you anyway.

I met some great cops in my using days--a couple who really tried to help me. But I also some really dirty cops who give the entire force a terrible name.

Wow, you are fascinating. I heard heroin is the hardest drug to kick. May you continue to stay sober:)

I get nervous even when I see a cop. I'm not doing anything wrong but for some reason I'm intimidated by them.

Cops is my favorite show on the TV

I used to like watching that show too--I don't really watch it anymore now that my life of crime is over.

Maybe it's be as well to say how TO act when pulled over by the police. My top preferences would be:

    1. Sober.
    2. Confused.
    3. Like you don't understand the language they are speaking to you.

My husband took his car out for a spin last night and was pulled by a cop. He was very polite until the cop handed him a ticket for reckless driving. He acted like a jerk after that. He told me about it when he got home and I said "You know you have to show up in court for that?"

I'm pretty sure the policeman will remember his rudeness.

NEVER be rude to cops! As Eddie Murphy said in 48 hours, "I got the gun, I got the badge, and I got the love of Jesus in my heart!"

      Good luck to your husband!

His saving grace may be that-- at least in my area-- the cops don't even have to show up for court. So he might not be there to even mention your husband's attitude.

@mtyler: Thanks. I'm always polite and honest. The last time I was pulled, the cop asked if I knew why he had pulled me. My answer was yes, I was speeding. His reply was no, you failed to come to a complete stop. I ended up getting two tickets for speeding AND failure to stop. (Me and my big mouth )

@ThriftShop: Unfortunately here, the cops rarely miss court dates.

Good point. We always remember the mean, rude drivers. And we always take plenty of notes on them so we don't miss a thing in court.

I say you should be polite if you're getting a ticket for a valid reason.

Other than that - I know here we have a bunch of Bubba-system low down, corrupt SOB's with attitudes the size of Texas on steriods who will pull you over, harass you, and beat you at the drop of a hat.

Around here, we're as rude as we wanna be, because quite frankly, it doesn't make a difference.

@Anok: It's like that around here too. If my husband did the same thing he did driving my car, he probably would have never been stopped, but he was driving his "toy" and unfortunately was.

Most people being stopped don't believe they deserve to get stopped.

That was a funny post. I'm sure cops see just about everything.

I was speeding once and a cop chased me for a mile or two before I finally pulled over. He said "Sir...why didn't you pull over earlier?"

I said "officer my first wife left me for a cop....I thought you were bringing her back"

He laughed....he had already heard the joke but gave me a warning for making his day.

Police have good and bad just like everyone else.
