How often do you post?

Do you have a "reserve" of articles?

Do you have any advice for new bloggers?

I aim to post a few times a week. I post about whatever has taken up a lot of space in my brain at the time.

My advice is to stick to what is authentic to yourself when you blog. When you try to deviate from that its not as much fun for yourself or your readers
    1. avecchioni
A few times a week is ambitious. Wow! (I'm going to take a look at your blog right now.) I started at that sort of pace, but I'm more comfortable now with 1x every two weeks. I do have a "reserve" of articles.

      . . .Great advice.
    2. lordiwanttobewhole
I do have a personal blog so my expertise would be from my perspective...because its about my life.
    3. Frusketer
I post about twice a day....so that would be about 14 times aw eek.
  2. dianaf86
I post 3-4 times per week (usually 3), and I don't have a reserve of posts (I wish I had that kind of time!). I don't like to let too much time go by between posts since I'm fairly new at this, so I don't want to lose my new readers.
    1. avecchioni
Again. . .very rigorous pace! I hope you can sustain it. I'm going to visit your blog, too.
    2. avecchioni
. . .So, I looked at your blog. Lots of useful information, especially for people (like me) who don't know much about social networking. I'm going to have to look closer at what LinkedIn is all about. I like the article, ' Are Social Networks Ruining your Social Life?.' Great title and excellent accompanying photo. . .
  3. CreativeJunkie
I try to post every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning and occasionally, on a weekend if I'm inspired.

I don't have a reserve of articles, but I wish I did ... sometimes, it would be nice to just be able to pick from a list rather than start with a clean slate. Unfortunately, I spend so much time on each one of my posts that there isn't enough time in the day to create a reserve.

My advice is to concentrate on the quality of your posts rather than the quantity. Oh, and to blog about what you know. That may sound pretty basic and "DUH" but I simply cannot believe the number of bloggers I read that profess to be experts in their field and yet, their posts contains so many inaccurate statements and obvious "filler" that it's an immediate turn off.
    1. avecchioni
I like your advice. I agree: quality over quantity.

It sounds like you also post 3-4x per week. Have you considered only posting 2 of those articles, and keeping the others in reserve. . .so you can take a break once in a while?
  4. Arcticulates
I usually do one really big post with lots of photos etc every 7-10 days, and at least 2 other shorter posts like a recipe or joke between the longer ones. It works good for me this way.

I don't have a reserve of articles. I have a few ideas rolling around in my head tho... does that count?
    1. avecchioni
I suppose if the ideas rolling around in your head turn into articles, then they count as reserves...

I love the opening photo on your blog (AND the moose!)
  5. Friday13
I post two or three times per week, especially now, being on vacation and all.

I like to include images/photos in my posts, as often (and as many) as I can, because I write a lot of sh--ahem, a lot of stuff.
    1. avecchioni
I love the 'Empty hallway, third floor of the Arts building'...photo on your site. The 'game of lights' photos definitely hold my attention also.
    2. Friday13
Yeah, that hallway is rarely empty during the day, so there aren't many chances of getting that shot.

As for the "game of lights" ones ... that was the intent

      Thanks!
  6. timethief
Right now I usually post twice a week as I'm recovering from a head injury. When I am fully recovered I will be probably posting 3 - 4 times weekly on my blogging tips blog. Also I agree with creative junkie - I focus on quality over quantity.
    1. avecchioni
Your blogging tips site looks PACKED with useful information. I'm definitely going to spend some quality time on it!
    2. timethief
Yay! you like my site. I'll put the welcome mat out for you.
  7. boytrotters
Timethief is right. Quality over quantity every time. If once every 2 weeks works for you, then go with it I say.

I post 3 times a week. I couldn't manage more than that because I create a comic strip (from start to finish) to go along with a text piece. We're still new ourselves, and trying to find our footing in the blogosphere.
  8. avecchioni
Yes, well, I’m getting more traffic from google searches, so I figure. . .these people who are coming to my site for the first time really don’t care how many times per week I post. They just want the article they googled to be useful and informative. . .and from my perspective, I’m trying to spend a little more time on the aesthetics of the site to increase the likelihood of their lingering. . .

Also, my subscribers read my articles whether I post them 2x per week or 1x every two weeks. . .and let’s face it, 1x every two weeks is much more sustainable (at least for me-----).
    1. MidwestMom
Good point. I started at a daily-post pace, but what I found was that I wasn't able to maintain the quality level (and I was distracted from living my life with my family). I thought, this isn't the reason I'm blogging. So, I've taken the pressure off a bit and post about twice a week.

In terms of reserve articles, I brainstorm ideas fairly frequently, but it is rare that I take the time to write out a full article and keep it in my draft folder. I would say I have reserve topics and sometimes do my writing on a weekend, scheduling it to post during the week... but most of the time, I'm writing an article the day it is posted.

Good question (and you know I love your blog.)
  9. footiam
Try to post everyday in different blogs
    1. avecchioni
      I count six blogs! That's pretty amazing. . .
  10. filinsk
I try to post a couple times a week at least. But it really depends on what's going on in the football world. I don't have a reserve of articles since mine's commenting on things as they happen.
    1. avecchioni
I love the concept of your site. I miss the 70's. . .The Dolphins, Steelers, Vikings, Cowboys and Raiders were great to watch. It was a pleasure last year to see the media revisit the 1972 undefeated Dolphins in light of the Patriots near perfect season.
  11. sjay
I try my best to post everyday! It is what I have been experienced. Problems I am solving. Sometimes I am lucky to get couple of posts per day. I do not have any reserve posts but I think it might be a good idea.

As long as blogging about what you really know and what you really love, it is easy and other will love your blog.
  12. GinaKina
I try to post 5-7 days a week. Since my blog is about food and fitness, its pretty easy to either post about my workout or what I made that day, since I'm always cooking something. I tend to post vegan or environmentally friendly products from time to time too, so...there is always something for me to post about!
  13. Flyfishfanatic
Minimum of 5 days a week for me.
  14. Aoi
I post every day (sometimes twice in one day) in my primary blog (Politics by Satire), and twice a week in my other blog (Daily Cat Fun).
    1. avecchioni
      . . .That's a lot of blogging!
  15. ginahomolka
I post a few times a week. People won't return when they don't see you updating your blog. I have a recipe blog so to complicate things, I have to come up with a recipe, cook it, photograph it, upload the photos and figure out the weight watcher points. It's time consuming, my evenings and weekends are spent blogging.
    1. avecchioni
Nice looking site. The Pasta Fagioli looks absolutely delicious!
    2. MidwestMom
I agree that it's time consuming. I only post about 5-10 recipes per month as a result, but I take photos as I cook most of the time. They sit in a file on my desktop until I'm ready to type in whatever recipe I'm listing.

Food photography is so tough, though. I like what you've done on your blog.
  16. movieleech
I usually post more than thrice a day

    movieleech.blogspot.com
    1. avecchioni
That's a rigorous pace. I can see your site has lots of categories and lots of posts. But hey--what about an Italian movie category?
  17. gamecherry
I post 3-4 times a day. People need their video game and hot chick news!
  18. avecchioni
That is a LOT of posting!
  19. Bullgrit
I started out, 1.5 years ago, posting every day. Over that time, I've missed about a dozen days due to technical issues. (Technical = Internet service down, or I'm physically in a location without service or a computer.)

A few times I've posted only a very short post, stating that I'm not posting -- been sick or just very, very tired (like today's post, for instance -- I essentially passed out last night before 8:00). I've never not posted anything at all just because I didn't feel like it (or didn't have an idea to write about).

Recently I've been thinking about not posting over the weekends. Updating and maintaining a web site is a lot of work, it turns out.

  20. bischoff
Depending on the circumstances. Sometimes I post several times a day on one blog, and rarely on another. Sometime the opposite. Right now I'm updating relatively frequently on my personal blog, while the others are more on the "couple of times a week" basis.
  21. Mathilde
I just started blogging and I do it probably way too often. Maybe in the future I'll blog once a week. I would like to get comments on my blogs.
    1. avecchioni
I see you were born in Bremen, Germany. Our son was there last summer for two weeks with his German club. He loved it!
  22. JusThoughtZ
as often as I can. I have an issue with saying exactly whats on my mind. and I think alot. So pretty much everytime and interesting idea comes up. I try not post just ANYTHING and keep it to full content but ...so whatever I don't post I draft for later

you can check some of them out on
    www.godlovesanemo.com
  23. NutriGirl
I try to post every day or whenever I have time to write something. I don't have anything pre-written, only ideas in my head. I also think it's not the quantity that matters - it's the quality that really counts.

    nutrigirlstories.blogspot.com/
  24. aningeniousname
Mostly when I have mail to send to people.
    1. avecchioni
Those are powerful photos of Dachau on your 'Plebe's eye view' site.
  25. frugalgrad
still work on the momentum at this time.
  26. radu
I try to post daily, on one blog or another.
When I don't post I organize the content a little bit.
From time to time I try to post a powerful article that will "strengthen" the blogs a little bit. As NutriGirl said, is the quality that matters. But you cannot always be at the top of your writing skills.

  27. FameofShame
    At least twice a day.
  28. melindaville
About twice a week--but my posts are stories that require a lot of thought and work. I could never blog every day--there's not enough hours in the day for that!
  29. acousticguitarist
I'm just heading down to the Post Office Now
    1. melindaville
      You scamp!
  30. TZY
As much as possible, I'd like to post entries at least one per week.
  31. idealpinkrose
I only post when I have time. Sometimes once or twice a week...I wish I could post more often....
  32. CrisRo
I want to do two or three a day, but I'm trying to have decent quality posts...so right now I'm getting in maybe one a day. Still, I'm slowly building up the traffic.
  33. mistyblue6778
Right now I aim to post atleast twice a day. Depending on my mood.
  34. hussyinterrupted
I try to post at least once a day. I like to post twice a day if I kind come up with relevant posts that aren't redundant. Since I have a political blog, right now is a bit of a slow season and I've been really hurting for stuff to post about : (
    1. avecchioni
      What about Blagojevich?

. . .I live in Chicago, so it's pretty much a full court press with the up to the minute news accounts. This morning there was a psychoanalytical account of his personality compressed into a 20 second news bite on the radio. Just unreal. . .
    2. hussyinterrupted
I did post about the Obama/Blagojevich connection, but like you said it's pretty much full court press everywhere. I don't want to beat the horse to death and just write the same thing in a million different ways like the rest of the news corp is doing. I hate redundancy.

Maybe if some more real news, instead of speculation and opinion, comes out of it, I will feel moved to post about it again.
  35. dianaf86
Here is an article about why part-time bloggers shouldn't post every day:

Dear Aveccioni, Yes, Bremen is a beautiful city. The cityhall ("Rathouse", no rats there, but the senators and the Burgermeister of Bremen. My father was senator of ports and traffic). I wrote my memoirs, "My life on Two Continents" aboaut my youth and education in Bremen, my travels in Germany and Italy, my time as Prisoner of War in France and my immigration ot the States in 1952. My husband and I visit Germany from time to time. Mathilde.
    1. avecchioni
I'll bet your memoirs make a good read. What a fascinating history. I see you traveled through Italy also. That's a beautiful country, isn't it?
  37. avideogameplayer
I usually try to post at least 2 or 3 times a week, depending if I see or think of something to post about.
  38. MelissaXOXO
Welcome to the blogging world. I'm new myself -- just about a month in. Since I'm new and a freelance writer, I post about three times a day. I also alternate between short bits and longer articles and of course mix in pictures too.

    My blog is melissabxoxo.blogspot.com
  39. swennerholm
I post when I am mood to post something..so it`s depend on my mood if I wanted to post or not.
  40. bradhart
I make 20 to 30 fresh posts a day over a couple dozen blogs and edit an equal number written by others. On average 4 to 6 of the ones I write personally are paid posts. Yes I keep a reserve of posts for some of my blogs ready to go, and a couple dozen generic post structures I use for paid posting so I can get them out quickly and efficiently.
    1. avecchioni
      That's an amazing schedule! I'm glad you're generating some earnings. . .
  41. Hedon
We tend to post once a day, but there are two of us so that makes it easier. Also, we do skip days when we don't feel like writing.

Our two hard and fast rules are that we only post when we're in the mood to write something and we write for ourselves. Course ours is a personal blog so the whole point is to do what makes us happy.
    1. avecchioni
. . .Pretty nifty approach. Keeps ideas in a strong current. I like it.
  42. thesanto
I try to post 1x per week, sometimes probably twice. I think my goal should be around 3x per week. I guess my rule is anytime I feel inspired, if you write just to write the final product is poor. Good luck with your blog.

Nice looking site. Yours is the first of its kind I've come across. (I reviewed it for you). I hope it takes off, then by this time next year you can host an extravagant gala for everyone participating in this discussion...
  43. shravan1000
once in a week or something! nothing definite!
    1. avecchioni
Nice looking review site. I like the concept. You definitely provide a valuable service. . .
  44. mongo22
I post a minimum of once per day.

My advice is to have a regular posting schedule, don't give up, maintain focus, comment on blogs of those who take the time to comment on yours, drink plenty of coffee & use social networking sites (especially Stumbled Upon).
  45. riseuprochester
Less than every day these days, due to tons of homework. Speaking of which, I better get back to that...
  46. chosenclick
i do have reserve articles but commonly i post new article every 3 days....
  47. sisterofmercy
I post whenever something pops into my head, I try and space them out a bit though.
    1. avecchioni
I like your sensible approach- kind of momma bear...not too much, not too little.
  48. jjmezzio
When I started out my blog, it was one post in every 2 days.

Nowadays I only post when I really need to post and when I really have a quality content post.

I don't want my blog to be crammed with 'fillers'.
  49. Praz
I'm more spontaneous when it comes to posting, when I feel like it, I do it.
  50. marknh
i have a personal blog i post when i feel like it, may be every 6 days or so.
just random ramblings of what ever.

    peace out.
    1. avecchioni
I like the no stress approach.
  51. Kobolito
I try to add several articles a day. As I wish to offer meaningful content, some articles can be quite long (such as my www.blogbert.nl/2009/01/famous-stiffs-of-2008.html which took seven pages in my wordprocessor) so it is not always possible to attain that goal.
I do have a pool of articles for future publication, and I constantly search for new ideas and subjects. One has to be organized.

    Best!

I am a new blogger. I feel comfortable to put something onto my blog maybe once a week. It gets too shallow if I do it more often. I write my diary every day so I don't forget what I did the day before, but often it's uninteresting stuff. It is nice to share thoughts with others when you really have to tell something. right now I have finished my fourth book and am not writing anything. I am waiting for a new idea. But there is also a life to live. the best thing is: go with the flow. A new idea will come when the time is ripe for it. And when it comes, I will be grateful and make the most of it. Meanwhile, I am following my own advice and enjoy every day I'm alive and healthy. Mathilde.
  53. Mathilde
Why don't you visit my website: www.mschmidtbooks.com. Mathilde
    1. avecchioni
I've been to your website. It's very well put together. I'm looking forward to photos & article about The Old Castle in Austria. I was in Innsbrook, Austria a few years back. The Altstadt was lovely. . .

I've been aiming for twice a week......and I find its a comfortable pace...I tried in the past to post more often and its just too difficult to find the time and worthy content
  55. avecchioni
I agree. . .worthy content is critical, regardless of how often you post.
  56. wehireu
    I try and post daily.

I have recently posted videos regarding the Oakland police shooting and California riots.

I do everything in my power to fire off about three posts a day, but less if I don't deem them worthy. Some are involve more writing than others, so it may sound more ludicrous than it really is... plus I have my partner in crime who write (albeit much less routinely) who picks up my slack... not necessarily related, but I also find having him contribute helps in respect to our entries are DRASTICALLY different so we can appeal to two different crowds...in theory.

    1. avecchioni
Having a partner-writer is a sensible way to go about it. Nice looking site by the way--usually I'm not a fan of black background, but yours has a a sleek, professional look. Nice Job.
    2. jonmcollins
      thank you very much
  60. mongo22
I'm down to about 4 or 5 a week. Busy with work and family. I need to rethink my posting schedule. Plus, my social networking takes up way too much of my time.
  61. Mathilde
The new year is a little overwhelming. I decided to teach German again and now have two classes. Not many students, but the ones who come to my classes are very sincere and really want to learn. so it is very rewarding. I also belong to several book clubs and we discuss what we are reading. Also there are family, house and garden and not't forget, daily cooking and meals. It's a full life, enhanced by emails from and to my friends and writing books. Mathilde.
  62. aftercancer
I post a few times a day but my site is very research based. I do have some posts that I have in reserve for times like this weekend when my family and I are going away with NO COMPUTER!
  63. 210betty
I can't keep a set schedule. If I don't feel like posting anything, that means I have nothing to talk about. However there are times I have a lot to share and I have to stop myself from posting more than twice a day. I'm currently at that point. I've quit smoking so I have a lot to discuss with and I need to do something with my hands.
    1. avecchioni
You've got a lot of energy! I guess quitting smoking will do that. Why not put some articles in reserve--so you can trot them out when you're out of town, or aren't in the mood for writing?
  64. jmh
I'm new to blogging as well however I try to aim for about two posts a week. Sometimes I surprise myself with more but I try to at least not let a week go by without anything being posted on my blog.
  65. extremejohn
I usually try to stay a few days ahead but after the holidays I have been chasing the post daily. I havent missed a day yet this year
    1. avecchioni
That's extraordinary. Great work. Impressive photo collection by the way.
  66. CrystalRaven
I am aiming for everyday again, but I am still on the road to recovery
  67. ranist22
Only when I'm in the mood. I also don't want to drown my readers under a spate of words and articles, they have other blogs to read.
  68. hijabicouture
What a great question you have posted! You deserve props. I am a new blogger and wonder what the right amount is. 2-4 times a week

I dont have a reserve of articles, but that's a good idea to have some content to fall back on.. but in the tech area, if you wait too long it becomes old news.

I agree, there's always a way to make old news fresh, but that takes some more time to whip up

I post in average one time per week. I'm fairly new at this too, and I do this part time, so it isn't possible to keep up the quality with more posts. I try to keep them coming on a regular basis though - not two days and then 10 days apart, but evenly every 6-8 days.

    missattica.blogspot.com

I checked out your blog and it looks interesting! I'll be back.
  77. darren1985
    How often do you post?
I post three times a week. But it's better if you could post everyday, to attract pings and spiders.

Do you have a "reserve" of articles?
Nope, but i do submit to article directories. :-) All contents are written from scratch.

Do you have any advice for new bloggers?
Be patient and share your interest with like-minded people. :-)

    Hope this helps!
    1. avecchioni
Solid feedback--thanks. Your Indie music blog is a very useful, well put together site...

I have a political and news blog so I post daily.

If I know I'm going to be too busy to post on any given day, the night before I make a draft post and schedule it to post the next day.

My readers expect to find the latest news on my blog and I try not to disappoint them.

    mountainsageblog.com
    1. avecchioni
I like the idea of draft posts. I do the same thing--I'll sketch out an idea, then fill it in later as a complete article.

Great looking blog by the way.
  79. Floormodel
I post in spurts. Sometimes five times a week, other times once a month. It depends on my mood and/or my schedule. Sometimes my words aren't there. This happened recently and I've only just picked it back up. When I write it flows from me, if it doesn't...I step away.

my advice? don't force it. if you can't find something to say, step away and take a break. don't frustrate yourself.
  80. Mathilde
I decided to really use my new blog now to tell what my books are about. So why not start today.
I wrote everything I could remember by hand on yellow paper and after about 300 pages I thought I had my daughter help me to type it. By then computers began to take over for typewriters and so Barbara taught me how to use her new computer. that wasn't so hard and in a few days ;I had a nice folder of about 200 pages. Lots of typos, but my children did not care. They could read this much better than the yellow pages with my handwriting. Ten years later I felt like publishing this and half a year later I had my first printed book in my hand. This experience was so motivating that I kept on writing. Now I have four of my own books on my shelf. Mathilde.

I post, uh or try to post, a few times a day, but I post fairly short articles though and sometimes longer ones. (the ladies love the longer ones)

I've thought about having a reserve of articles, but it's become more of a backlog of articles I would like to write instead of a reserve.

My best advice I can think of is to not get discouraged, try different things, experiment, and to keep having fun.

I don't post as often as I would like. Sometimes I try and do too many things at once with the little free time I have. I wish blogging WAS my job, but sometimes it has to go by the wayside. And yeah, being a "newbie blogger" doesn't help

I read somewhere that if you have a new blog, you should post everyday at first. I'm finding that challenging especially since many of my posts are about tasting chocolate or chocolate recipes. Some may not feel that its challenging but when you are also trying to lose weight, it would be a losing battle.

I'm trying to post every second day or at least three days a week. I have a list of ideas in reserve but not the actual articles written.

That's starting to look like the average around here. Good looking blog by the way. Nice clean layout.

I make a new blog post everyday, 7 days a week.

Right now, every day. I do have some kind of "reserve" of articles, though, from my German blog. But I won't post daily forever.

Just as I stated that this column is getting too long, up comes "Queenlandsfan." Her real name is Eva and she is a world traveler from München, Germany. She writes her long, interesting blog in English and also in German. Now--I am teaching German in California and this really turned me on.

Eva, ich hoffe, dass Du diese Anstellung kriegst, du bist ja geradezu dafür geschaffen! Ich hoffe, daß du gut bezahlst wirst!

Thanks, Mathilde, you're really kind! I just read some of your blog posts and visited your website. Very interesting!

      Und viel Erfolg beim Deutschunterricht.
