How to detect and locate planted very small spy cameras, motion or noise detectors in a room?
Would they be implanted in the surface cracks?
Where to get a metal detector?

Should I feel paranoid?
Actually, the Australian Govt introduced a policy here about a year ago, it was on the radio. They said they now have the right to send 'fake' telephone people to peoples homes, bug them for security reasons. It was yet another relevant news item that went by almost unnoticed.-
@acousticguitar you may not really care but you should really and I'll tell you why....if someone really hates you, there is nothing to stop them from crashing your apartment when you are not home and slipping some poison in your juice or drinking water.
No one would know who the heck poisoned you.
This issue is very serious and very evil in the wrong hands.
Your privacy is up for grabs here.
When the phone lines were crossed in my condo, I listened in on a woman
5 blocks up the street from me, talk to her lawyer about her case
and how much in dollar signs settlement she was getting.
I had to interrupt her to tell her that our lines are crossed.
She was shocked and the line actually crossed several times,
even after the phone company told me they fixed the problem.
Here in Massachusetts it is illegal to wire tap someone
and if I find out this is what is going on I am suing everybody in the condo board.

Being..no, why bother. If they say it on National Radio and no-one cares, why bother. Surveillence is so normal and accepted now. If people don't care, why bother? generally people consider it acceptable to be spied on by Governments. So as I said so long as I'm not up there with Pamela on youtube showing my butt, I'm fine.

@Where to get a metal detector?
One simple and working way of detection is the following one:
You use a simple transistor radio, select middle-wave.
Pull the antenna out.
Scroll to a place where there is no broadcasting.
And then move the antenna/radio along places you suspect some hidden electrical devices.
This should also work for the detection of electrical wires in walls.
Just experiment with it and you can also try different wave length.-
I ment:
AM --- Medium frequency
(MF) refers to radio frequencies (RF) in the range of 300 kHz to 3000 kHz. Part of this band is the medium wave (MW) AM broadcast band.
I haven't done this with new electronic mini-radios, but I guess it should work. Maybe you can even use any portable radio for this.
It's just a simple quick method.
And it might work with FM too. Haven't tried this so far. It also depends on the multitude of channels. You need to find some quiet space between the channels.

Awesome...I am so glad you posted this discussion
Everyone I suggest you do a check in your own home and condo
I live in a condo with 18 unit owners, my brand new television,
the screws are missing in the back of the tv.
Also my stereo is playing funny lately
and switches to a station that makes signalings, no other sounds.
My bedroom area, when I talk inside, my voice level rises way up as if amplified.
There are strange pencil marks on the bottom half of the wall sockets or plugs.
I have changed my locks a few times but will have to install a few cameras soon.
Something is definitely up here.
I will be hiring some people soon to come, do a spy check,
debugger inside my apartment and check the phone lines.
I had a telephone when I first moved in and the lines were always crossed, so I no longer use the phone inside.
I do have a cell phone and I use that outside and away from the building.
I believe the entire building is bugged and/or wiretapped.

Just because you are not home doesn't mean you apartment is safe.
I suggest it especially for people who live in apartments or a condo with more than one unit owner.
Plus nothing can stop anyone, including the condo board of trustees, when your not home to pay locksmith, open your apartment and walk right through it. This is a very serious issue....beware. -
Plus I want to mention that nothing is ever missing from your house, apartment or condo when they come do enter it.
Sometimes you will see white dusk near the electrical sockets.
Some are careless with a thumb print here and there in the apartment or door handles,
sometimes your main front door is sticky which means they already bypass the lock.
On 20/20 they did a show on Locksmiths and how anyone in a building or apartment
can just simply claim to be locked out of their apartment and pay a locksmith to change the lock.
They do have the tool to open any lock and can then do the work and you can of course pay cash
and they would never know since the locksmiths do not check id's they just do the work.
You then enter the apartment like it's yours and do whatever you want.
Most Locksmiths their companies don't even do good background checks to see
if their employees are past criminal before they send these people out to your house. -
Why are you worried about these things they don't matter. There are cameras all over the place, but very few are actually checked. There simply aren't enough people to watch everybody and sift through all the garbage.
If you are talking about confidential matters over the phone you are foolish. Illegal activities are not something that should be discussed over an electronic medium. There is no such thing as true security over any electronic medium.
Quite frankly, I have come to expect that government occassionally checks on its citizens illegally. I expect business to do it even more.
Have you run your computer through a spyware check lately, I usually get about 100 watchers every single time. It is just part of everyday life.
Get used to it and stop complaining. Complainers get even more coverage. It attracts the watchers like flie :). -
Who's complaining and to who?
1st: of all if someone has entered my apartment when I am not home,
that is breaking and entering, they are breaking the law.
2nd: if someone has tapped my phone, in Massachusetts it's against the law
and they are breaking the law.
3rd: I can't have anybody just walk in on me in my own Condo bought and paid for,
that is also against the law and they will get _hot.
There are steps to take for added protection and that is all this discussion is about.
If some of you don't want to fight it, that is you but not me.
I have a right to be free in my house.
If the Government wants to spy check me, they can as I am not running anything illegal in my house BUT if other people who are not "the law" is doing this for their own gain or a sick prank
I have a problem with that and that is what this discussion is about.
