The key to creating a faithful blog readership is to create relationship with your readers. You can do all the other things to bring traffic in but unless you are creating a community through dialog and through commenting on your reader's blog there will be a high bounce rate.

    @tamalds
    Keep listing them.

This is true I think especially for personal or blog like mine which are not personal in a real personal way but are full pf personal commentary about society, politics and life, in general. If readers don't like the way you write or in some way feel connected to you they don't come back.

I really didn't know this when I first started blogging and I think in some way I was lucky I didn't though because I think people try to hard to "connect" these days. I think it should be just a natural thing.

Well said... it is not what you do to get traffic to your blog but more so what you DO with the traffic when you get it.

Have a quick trigger finger in commenting on other blogs. Lots of wisdom to be gained from reading some of these blogs on Blog Catalog.

If you ever find out let me know. But what everyone else is saying is absolutely right. When you start a blog its like a isolated island in a sea with many others. Just "travel" to other blogs and comment/interact. If people like what you have to say they will magically come to your blogy.
    Peace!

I think consistent traffic comes with posting consistently. The few times I have had to delay longer than normal between posts, I have definitely seen a change in traffic. As long as I stick close to a schedule, no matter the topic I write on, the traffic will come.

Create a lead capture page for whatever niche you are interested in. Tie your blogs rss feed to your autoresponder, I use getresponse and aweber both will allow you tie your rss feed to your list.

I get something like 10 to 15 thousands visits a month to my sites. Alot of the traffic is from my email list. Some from seo

I try my best to update my blog once in 3 days, optimizing my posts to the keyphrase: FREE TRAFFIC SECRETS(you will find my blog www.free-trafficsecrets.com on the first page on the result page).

I don't stop there.I also go ahead to to comment in relating blogs integrating the above named key phrase into my comments.

    Thanks

    I would say two things,

Quality is never hidden so maintain quality in your posts.

Take that quality to those who can best judge it. Thats all.

I twitter,I use other forums, I write for a newspaper on line and advertise there, Word of mouth. Other people advertise for me sometimes as I do for them.

The Wordsmith's Forge easily attracts regular readers because LiveJournal facilitates networking; I post about news, writing, gardening, life skills, and other topics.

Hypatia's Hoard of Reviews is growing slowly but steadily on WordPress. I get some traffic from BlogExplosion, but mostly from MyBlogLog where I have community pages for all my blogs. This is my review blog, also covering publisher and author news.

Gaiatribe: Ideas for a Thinking Planet is also on WordPress. This one gets most of the BlogExplosion traffic -- I've made several new friends that way -- and some from MyBlogLog. Recently I've gotten several big spikes from StumbleUpon via participating in "Save the World Wednesdays" on Reduce Footprints. So I plan to do more posts in that series. We've set up a strong connection between our two blogs because we cover slightly different aspects of the same field, green living. If you can find a blog that is about a half-step off from yours, it is totally worth your time to develop a close relationship with that blogger.

i guess the most important thing that a blogger should do to get a consistent traffic is to post new topic or update your blog from time to time.
