   Try something unusual...
   Do something creative with the ads placement..
   Everybody is so accustomed to ads that they ignore it.If they find something which they are not expecting, they will pay attention to it and probably click on it.

   In the end, there's no great way to increase your clicks. You can work on ad placement and that may work, but more traffic guarantees increase clicks. You should focus on increasing traffic. More traffic = more clicks by default.

    If only one person in 1,000 clicks on the ads, you need to increase your traffic to several thousand per day. Easy equation.
    
    Trying to change the percentage of people who click on your ads requires you be dishonest and doing so will probably get your account frozen.

       Very few bloggers have the degree of expertise required to produce and promote high quality original content that brings in the massive number of hits on advertisements that are required to make a living from blogging. IMO a blog that's on its own domain and is drawing 1,000 - 1,500 unique hits daily is worthy of monetizing.
       
       When it comes to traffic it makes sense to take all the steps required to pursue targeted organic (unpaid) traffic. It's your content that draws traffic, and it's your ability to use basic SEO techniques that makes your content available to potential readers and search engines.
       
       It's the skill you have at using keywords and phrases effectively and in the natural flow of the text in your posts that will draw targeted readers to your site (basic SEO). Those keywords and phrases are in turn what decide the kind of Google Adsense ads that will appear on your site.
