Frequent BC and get involved in discussions. ..create threads.
so, basically what you are doing now.

The best place to start is by helping yourself to the use of the forum Discussion searchbox in the sidebar. It contains a treasure trove of information that gets repeated time and time again like a mantra. IMHO there is no single best way to get traffic. Any advice we give you is dependent upon what you have already done to get traffic.
(1) Is your blog structured in a reader and search engine friendly manner? onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2008/06/17/2008/03/19/how-to-structure-a-reader-a...
(2) Have you created pillar posts (flagship content) that has timeless value and brings back readers again and again? In blogging content is king, hence, it's the draw to your site.
onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2008/03/19/2008/06/17/2008/05/05/blogging-charact...
(3) Have you created relationships with other bloggers? There are no shortcuts to increasing organic traffic, which is the only traffic that has any lasting value. Increasing traffic is the natural consequence of relationship building. The search link is at the top of every BC page. Use it and type your blog categories and tags into it. The results will provide you with links to related blogs. Visit them, read posts & leave meaningful comments in order to build relationships with other bloggers.

(4) Basic SEO More information can be found in this blog post as well onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2008/04/26/ten-traffic-promotion-tips-for-blogger...

(5) It's important to read the forum discussion guidelines in the Read Before Posting thread at the head of the forum. We cannot create link drop or link exchange threads on the forum. Every thread we post must be aimed at initiating discussion and we cannot post links into threads unless they are directly related to the topics being discussed. Here's the link. www.blogcatalog.com/discuss/entry/read-before-posting-1
I hope this helps you. Welcome to BC and best wishes for happy blogging. -
I've tried some of the services offered by websites such as iSellPagerank.com, MaxTrafficPro.com, Sitepronews.com, linkreferral.com, TrafficG.com, Bloggapedia.com, clickevolution.com and many more. I had even subscribed for a premium membership to some of them with some payments. Todate, my visitors are still far below my expectation.
Then I realized something. I should focus on the CONTENTS.-
Exactly! It's the reader and search engine friendly structure of the blog, the quality of the contents in it, the ability of the blogger to promote those contents, and the relationships that you form with other bloggers by coomenting on their posts, that are key to creating a "blog centered community" of faithful readers on your own blog.
Although entrecard & stumbleupon, etc. will provide a traffic boost, so what? That traffic boost will have a 90% bounce rate of people, who just click in and then out - never to return again.

There are a lots of ways to get traffic. If you want to get any substantial search engine traffic, you have to build a healthy amount of inbound links to your site. Inbound links come from posting good content, article marketing, press releases, commenting on other people's blogs, forums, online communities, directories, etc...
BUILD LINKS! And remember... "content is king" on the internet. The better your content, the better you'll end up. Good luck! -

It is frustrating. I've tried services like Entrecard, the social networks, Twitter, commenting frequently, frequent posts, etc., etc. but it has resulted in little return traffic. There are days I get discouraged, but I keep plugging forward. Bloggernoob.com has a lot of good information on how to get traffic and make money from blogging. I'm trying to use many of the tricks he uses. His blog is actually only one month older than mine and he has managed to make thousands of dollars compared to my less than $100! It's an example to follow.

I'm always answering this question for my friends..
First, you must make sure that search engines(Mainly Google) can find you, this is a process called SEO, you can find oodles of info about SEO on the net but I'm about to tell you all you really need, On-site and Off-site optimization.
On-site: This means formatting your HTML properly, closing all your tags even if the page shows correctly with them left open, have your links in text rather then images so the search engines know what you are linking to and can assign relevancy points, if they must be images for your links, use the IMG ALT tag so search engines can tell what it has to do with. Even though it obviously can't see and give relevancy points for your image, it can read your img alt. This is all pretty much common sense, make it so a computer can scan your site and get an idea of what its about and what you are linking to.
Off-site: Some sites don't even bother with the above because they are so linked that it doesn't matter. The major thing that gives you PageRank(How google judges your importance and sorts your results in comparison to your competitors) is linkbacks. Amazon.com has so many linkbacks they don't need to define their doctype.. thats a little joke, they actually do define their doctype - I, am just not funny.
What's a linkback? An anchor that links to your site that doesn't originate in your domain. You can generate linkbacks by asking fellow bloggers to link back to you, or if you are a business ask your vendors and even customers.
Oh Great! So I can link to my blog on forums and stuff and that will count as a linkback?? Not so fast, you need to understand that forums and comments on blogs have been abused by spam links and we have come up with something called NOFOLLOW that will tell search engines not to index stuff that is linked to on the sites comments and forums. Linking to negative pages will decrease your pagerank. Negative pages linking to you has no effect.
So what do you want me to do? I want you to On-Site optimize as much as you can.. don't ever pay anyone to do this, they know nothing you cant find with a google search. Also, I want you to build linkbacks (But only if they are relevant!) You won't see links to Beyonce's newest song Diva on my blog even though I love it, because it simply has nothing to do with what I'm talking about.
I haven't got to explain the benefit of Social networking (what we are doing now) But I have to run. Just note that social networking (BlogCatalog, Digg, Del etc.) is not a magic bullet to get pagerank even though people are reading your blog they aren't definetly going to link to it, you need to make friends that are interested in your interests and as you post hopefully they will read, and maybe linkback.
I meant for this post to be a couple sentances, sorry for the book - I get a little carried away.
Oh yeah, and the magic bullet for gaining pagerank, readers and traffic is to !!Have GREAT content!! If you have excellent content people will naturally want to tell their friends, who tell their friends (This is called a viral effect) some who link to you some who just read
Thanks for reading. I hope this was some help!

7 steps to effective networking at Blog Catalog
Blog Catalog is not set up to drive traffic to blogs. It’s is set up to drive readers to blogs. All the features are aimed at assisting members to increase readers, as opposed to delivering a flood of one hit wonders that produce a high bounce rate.

SEO Basics For On Page Optimisation
There are many common myths that float around the SEO industry often confusing the less experienced SEO’s and in some cases seriously misleading the newbie webmaster. One such myth surrounds on page SEO and it’s effects on search engine results. There are 2 common myths that exist and both are false:
1. On page SEO is useless for Google Optimisation
2. META Tags are the only important aspects of SE

Twenty five steps to increase blog traffic
In blogging content is king and marketing is queen. If you write high quality original content and promote it then the result may be an increase in organic traffic, or not. If it’s not easy to locate your content in search engines then there will be no increase in new traffic. Thus, what determines success is two things:
* whether or not your content is found, and
* whether or not the readers who do find it become subscribers.
Bloggers and their readers are co-creators of a blog’s brand. It’s important to invest time into finding the correct niche for your blog and formulating your goals. It’s likewise just as important to examine your blog in terms of growth models.
In the final analysis, all bloggers need to focus on creating relationships with other bloggers by leaving meaningful comments on their blogs, and by encouraging “organic” traffic that translates into a faithful blog readership for your own blog by responding to the comments you get. onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2009/01/15/twenty-five-steps-to-increase-blog-tra...
Encouraging blog readers to comment
Keep readers interested by writing fresh content. Start conversations by writing compelling blog posts that invite readers to comment. When your readers do comment respond promptly and in a welcoming manner so they feel comfortable expressing their thoughts and opinions.

How to form blog centered relationships
Those who are investing quality time in reading the blogs of their friends, leaving meaningful comments on them exploring the archives in their friends blogs, and finding posts to backlink to in new posts they write in their own blogs are on the right track.
