My blog and shopping sites' PR was 3 at one point, but it dropped back to 1 now. So sad :-(. I wonder how the people who have PR 4 or above got there? Please share your tips and help me and the community here. Much appreciated!

All comments with just links have been removed. If this continues to be a place where people are just posting links, I'm going to lock this discussion.

If you want to offer advice on getting a better rank for a blog, do do. Stop just posting links though.

The Art of SEO is an ever-changing one and that's the way it will always be. A while back now Google changed their algorithm and everybody's ratings went south. Its bound to happen again. I am a total newbie to this subject but I have picked up some tips which I share here:

    1. Read widely and try lots of different approaches in a methodical manner... it takes time for any changes to have an impact so be patient.
    2. Use Google's many tools (Webmaster, Analytics and AdSense) to check your progress. you can set up individual profiles for each of your sites and run several experiments (Goals).
    3. Write in your own style on a regular basis about what you know... don't simply regurgitate others work.

    That's all IMHO. Happy blogging!

While I cannot speak for shopping sites/blogs, from my own observation of getting PR5:

The ranking of every post/page counts in your overall ranking.

    1. Write unique content and stay within content related to your Google search keywords for all/most of your posts
    2. Only link to a few selected and related higher ranking sites/posts in your posts
    3. Make sure your Google search keywords appear often enough in every one of your posts (and in the sites you link to, and in your anchor text linking to that site)
    4. Backlink within your blog, so that newer posts are linked to related older posts, and vice versa.

Just my approach, no SEO whatsoever (unless what I am doing is SEO). It may not work for all, but it works for me.
