I was wondering if there any good ways to increase traffic to your blogs. I have submitted my blog to all search directories that I could find and various other sites. I know I have good content, its just not very rewarding when not many people look at it.

    Content is key and regular and consistent output gets people to check your site out on a regular basis. If you say you will update once a month, make sure you do so.

    I started my blog a few years ago and basically wrote for myself until I started writing consistently every day about 13 months ago. Now, I'm getting as much traffic in a week as I used to in a month.

    Good luck with your blogs. I liked the inexperienced presidential one (though - as a resident of Illinois - let me correct that Abraham Lincoln was elected president in 1860, not 1820... no, I wasn't there!).

    Write it and they will come!

    Have you tried locating blogs that are on subjects related to your own blog and leaving meaningful comments on the posts you found on them?

    You also may want to join groups and forums on related subjects as well. There are 29 political groups here at BC www.blogcatalog.com/groups/tag/politics

    Leaving good comments on other people's blogs does help. Posting to forums such as this also generates interest.

    you have to spent a lot of time writing, getting in contact with others. if you have a job and work hard, then it is more difficult to take much care of blog. good luck

    Simple ... try to increase the posts (Content)
    Experiment with your Posts (Content)

    Traffic is something you don't have much control but yea always you can control your content. At least I am making it useful to myself. Others who have similar interest will find it quite useful and have a reason why they should visit your blog.

    am I wrong?

    this is a very helpful (and timely) thread! In the last month I've really found my focus and started writing and posting regularly. When there are few hits and few comments it's hard to sustain motivation!

    I agree with the above.
    Content and commenting are very important, especially now that my visits from Google dropped by 100%. Go figure.

      I'm concerned by this 100% drop. Do you mean search engine referrals from Google?
      Do you have a Google webmaster's account?
      Have you submitted a site map?
      Have you corrected any errors that Google has reported when crawling your site?
      Have you checked your site's markup and made corrections if it doesn't validate? validator.w3.org/

    Lamirabelle. Something major must have happened. Did your site get banned or links devalued. A 100% drop in traffic is a worry

    There are 25 basic steps to take to increase traffic to your blog. Here are the steps:
    1. Structure a reader and search engine blog;
    2. In blogging content is king create unique, high quality content;

    4. Make your blog posts look professional;
    5. Create at least 4-6 pillar posts;
    6. Select and link to appropriate anchor text;
    7. Leave meaningful comments on related blogs;
    8. Encourage comments on your own blog;
    9. Develop relationships with other bloggers so you can build a blog readers’ community around your own blog;
    10. Trackback and link to other blogs you refer to in your blog posts;
    11. Link to authoritative sources in your posts;

If you have a self hosted wordpress blog then there is a sitemap plugin that can auto-generate your sitemap whenever you update your site (and it auto-notifies Google for you);
    20. Get organized, use an online to do list by developing a blogging workflow;
    21. Promote your blog through directories and social media sites;

    23. Submit your latest pillar article to a blog carnival
    24. Submit your latest pillar article to Ezine Articles, etc.
    25. Become a guest blogger on sites with higher page rank than your own site.

    I've had good results with CommentLuv on "Gaiatribe," because it tags each comment with a person's previous post. Also good are networking sites like this one, Bloggers Unite, MyBlogLog, and Google Friend Connect. They encourage people to visit each other's blogs -- and they tell you who is reading yours. If you click on those people and get in touch with them, you can build readership that way.
