The truth is that there are no shortcuts to making money from blogging. You need to have an knowledge base and skill sets that make it possible for you to “deliver the goods”.

Content is king.
Post high quality topics, use a spell checker, your posts must be legible, people need to be able to understand what you've written, so spell check, proofread it for errors, and work hard to make sure people can understand you.
Post images in your posts that match the topic at hand. (it is proven that if there is a picture, people will stop to look, and then read the post to learn about the image)
Do not bog down your blog/site with tons of advertisements all over the place. Keep ads to a sidebar or specific location.
Get a good and easy on the eyes design.
Link out to other blogger's posts on the same topic as your post.
Engage your readers, respond to comments within 24 hours, be polite, always.
timethief wrote an EXCELLENT post I am just now seeing, (started posting my own comment while their blog loaded, and then went to read) and everything they have posted is exactly what I was starting to post here..LOL
I would say though, one of my biggest things, peeves, turn-offs that make me leave a blog regardless of the high quality topic, is bad spelling, lack of or wrong punctuation, and terrible grammar.
If I can't read through the first paragraph without having to decipher every other word, I leave the blog and never go back.
Well written, high quality content, good design, and images pertaining to the post are essential makings of a good blog. -
