Repeat visitors are no problem for me. Have got plenty of them. My problem is getting more first time visitors. I suppose only posting once a week is part of that problem.

Respond to their comments if they comment. Also if they ask for a shared link, share a link. Write regularly.

I read the first response above and noticed that this was another "dead thread". So where's that image of Monty Python's dead parrtot? lol

there's no solution other than evolution

seriously blogs are like natural selection in action,
visitors who like your style will return, the rest won't
that's why when you see big traffic increases (i.e. stumbleupon) it gradually drops off.

Quility and quantity- give people a reason to come back. I check my favrite blogs daily, if they don't offer me something to read, I soon forget them; not because they're poor quality, it's just there's no reason to go back, unless I feel like checking seven days and being rewarded once...

Readers deeply involved in your niche are the most likely return readers. I find that I gain more regular & interactive readers when I involve myself in niche forums. These are the readers more likely to comment as well, they have a vested interest in your content. When they do, respond and engage them in conversation. And of course, offer regular quality content.

Great question. I've been thinking of adding a newsletter which notifies the reader when there's a new post. This is for readers that don't use feed readers.

Anyone use this approach? Does this result in "deeper" (multipage) readers?
    1. jan4insight
Yes, I do. I send out my newsletter about twice a month, and only to people who have opted-in to the mailing list. I link my important posts and include a few extra tips and so forth so it's not just a repeat of the blog.

I get a lot of positive feedback about this newsletter. It seems that a lot of folks really are new to the concept of blog-reading, and wouldn't know how to use RSS. Also, I give some business flowing my way as a result of the newsletter.

Use a subscription comment system so everytime you post a comment, it will sent them an email of someone replying to their comment. I find that very helpful.

The most common reason why your readers slowly leave your blog is because you never update your blog. I don’t need to mention whose blog belong to but it’s was a first blog that actually make me inspired to keep in writing. I used to visit that blog, but the post was always remain the same as I visited previously. I saw very less traffic coming in. So, now I rather pay a visit to friend's blog who often visiting my blog and I also do blog walking to get news friends. How often you updated your blog? It’s up to you. More time you spend better rewards you get, naturally!
