I just got this question yesterday on my post about upgrading Wordpress on My Life Thinking blog
“I wish I could upgrade but I am still on blogger. I wish someone would write a post about exactly what the complexities of switching from Blogger to WP. I have nightmares (not really) about losing all of my data and PR“, so I thought to answer it here:

I appreciate your effort, but this is the Blogging Help forum. Teaser posts that force you to click a link are frowned upon. Why not post your tips here?

The whitespace where you typed "I just got this question yesterday on my post ..." is where you would do that.

Changing over to wordpress.com is free and relatively easy.
1) Register an account with www.wordpress.com and follow the instructions. There are exact instructions on how to upload all of your data from your current blog.
2) FYI You may not have ads on a free wordpress blog. There are lots of templates that you can change and the side bars and widget abilities differ on many of these. For example: On one template you will have blogrolls showing up in your sidebar, after you create them of course. When you decide to use another template, sometimes your blogroll (or other peoples links) will not show up.
3) I am no expert, but I did this and if I can do it, anyone can.
Good luck.
