How to promote a women forum?

Hello.
I am running some blog and sites, from which one is a new forum for women. It's a sort of a general chat for women topics only. We discuss about everything in our lives: fashion, lifestyle, beauty, career, gossip, relationships ...
My question now: how and where do you think I could promote it? The site is still small (the forums). The post count will increase rapidly since I am quite an "avid" poster. But still it would be better to have some more members to develop.
I cannot afford paying for promotion, so the hints should be for "free advertising".
I am pretty much concerned now in how can we promote this forum, make it a lively place and encourage more people posting there. I wonder if this forum might be of use as it is now integrated in a store?
The women forum website is www.womandiary.net
I am looking forward to your response, and I thank you in advance

You might also begin commenting on related blogs. If your comments are valuable enough, people will follow a link to your site. (If they're shallow, the purpose of your visit will be too transparent.)
But there was a another post recently about for women only.
Lastly, here's a feminist and green blog in England I sometimes visit. Maybe you can trace resources down through it (or through the author): philobiblon.co.uk/ -
I've done some of your suggestions above, but the forum still on low visitor traffic. I'll keep you posted there

But what is low in your terms? Cause that might be high in others. While sometime I fret that mine is under the numbers bandied about here, I have to eralize I haven't been in operation for long. There are so many options out there now, it's hard to stand out, you know? I belong to a private board like yours describes, and love it. I just visited yours but it's too pink for me
lol.
Good luck!

Have you contacted other woman websites and requested a link exchange with them? Write a nice letter asking the site owner if they would like to reciprocate.
Where do you find link partners?
You can start with the Google directory which lists sites by pagerank. The green bar next to each link tells the page rank. If the bar is green half way across, then that page has a PR of 5. If it’s green all the way across then the page has a PR of ten.
Look for websites related to women. You can also submit your site to wwwomen.com and other directories related to women.
GalDirectory.com is a directory on all topics relevant to women.
Also go to Google and type in Women submit site. There are 44,200,000 results. You can also try Women add url.
Always try to gain links with your anchor text in it if you do reciprocal linking. Have them link to use as Women Diary Forum for Women.
Have you submitted your site to the search engines yet?
Writing articles and submitting them to free article directories is another great way to market your site.
Have you submitted a free press release yet to prleap.com or any of the other Press Release services? There are many press release services available on the Internet. I use pr.com and prweb.com.
Join women forums and include your website in your signature. Interact with other women.
