My comment form uses the cforms II plugin www.deliciousdays.com/cforms-plugin
with SPAM protection using CAPTCHA and the Akismet plugin
    akismet.com/
from Automattic as a backup secondary protection.

Akismet's always done the trick for me, very rarely do I find something that got through it.

I like the idea of stopping the spam bots before they submit a comment, so I don't use Akismet, but I do use the simple and effective WP-Gatekeeper. This plugin allows you to set multiple challenge questions, one of which is randomly chosen to ask any new commenter. The questions aren't usually answerable by bots, and therefore prevent 90% of comment spam. I am still vulnerable to human-posted spam, but this is very rare for a blog that isn't "A list".

All my comments on blogs are blocking my comments for thinking they are spam yet they are completely legitimate comments. Could it be my email address or my domain. I never spammed any blog with comments. I don't know how to stop it. Any suggestions?

Isn't there "Akismet" installed by default in any WordPress? That would do ...

I use Akismet and Bad Behavior.

The best comment spam is .. to set everything in moderation (if you are scared of it) and manually approve the good ones. This way, if people subscribe to comments, they won't get emails from spam commentors.

If you don't over subscriptions to comments via email, you can always just let them go and maybe once a week come and delete them bulk in your dashboard.

I prefer the plugins that do that automatically for me.

I use Akismet on one of my wordpress blogs and Defensio on another. Both work very well. At present we are experiencing automatically generated phony comments and trackback spam. The way these two types of spam can be detected is by moderating comments.
