   I started last June. I paid for some advertising at first. Don't do it though. It is a waste of money.
   
   I started making a lot of post (each post is another inlink. this places you higher in search engine rankings), commenting on other blogs, starting new blogs and linking them together, joining here and mybloglog, listing my blog in directories...
   
   You should comment on blogs and leave good comments about a topic you can write something about. Like photography for me say. Wordpress blogs and .com's you can leave your URL in the comments and this is another inklink. I also love reading blogs anyway so it is not work.

   I generally join sites such as these and also go out blog hunting. It's fun for me to read related blog sites and post my own thoughts where applicable. It's not the most effective way to bring readers, but it does work

   Depend upon your content, Every time I submit it to Stumbleupon and Digg (I am 100% sure) I get at least 50 visits.

      I get less than 10 visits from Digg for a new article, but I get 100+ hits from Reddit for the same post. Have you tried it mate??

   i suggest try make an advertisement using youtube, if your blog related to girl try make a slide show or movie about girl, and at the last of the video show your blog address. 100% sure a lot visitors will come ^_^

    I have posted on forums that relate to the content of my blog.
    I always provide a link to my blog right below my avatar.
    It doesn't provide hundreds of hits, but it does provide some good quality visits.
    Many of the visits include several page views, and long durations of time.

    I include my blog addy in all email and forum signatures.
    
    I also publicly follow blogs that I am interested in and leave comments on blogs that I follow.
    
    I also think that having a "unique" avatar will get clicks just because people think the picture is cute..
    
    Follow/leave comments on high traffic blogs that are similar in content to yours..this has been a BIG help with my blog.
    
    Also, blogcatalog has done more for me than digg or technorati or some of the others.

    if you want to make traffic to your blog you have to work on it very hard and organize it well:
    
    some steps I had learned are the following:
    
    >Include meta tag descriptions on your blog
    -if you want your blog to be crawled easily by any search engine such as google try adding meta tags. If you haven't been able to have knowledge about html you may download free ebooks and start reading about tags including the meta tag I tell you it would really help.
    >make your title unique as possible and accordingly
    -your title must be unique as possible and related to your blog
    >invite some of your friend bloggers to link you on their blogs too
    -if they link you your pagerank increases; remember these the higher your pagerank is the higher the possibility that your site will be searched by search engines online.
    >always update your blog post
    -keep your post fresh and new and make new postings as possible and include tags on it so that search engines may easily find it.
    
    There are actually more things to consider about creating a traffic for your site you may just try searching for trusted articles online that may help do it, but actually asking it on a forum is a good start.;)

    Sites like Digg etc only seem to work if you have something sensational to post. A celebrity photo, a tabloid type of story, a dumb criminal story, or a girl in a bikini all get lots of hits.
    But if your blog is about hiking, crafts, architecture, or photography for example, you won't get many hits from it. I get the impression that most people on Digg, StumbeUpon etc are kids.
