Dog paddle?
Breaststroke?
Front crawl?
Backstroke?
Butterfly stroke?

p.s. Should the expected rise in sea level as a result of the global glaciers melting force us all to become better swimmers?

My swimming is awesome, and I'd happily adapt to a water life. Me and my brother used to play a game where we'd basically tell a story, and we'd pick up where we left off when we were supposed to be going to sleep, when walking around shops, anywhere.

One of the favourite places we invented was a venice style place where you would get around everywhere on boats, or by swimming.
Obviously the water was crystal clear, unlike in Venice.

I'm a lot better at drowning

I used to have a phobia of water.

I went for swimming lessons at the age of 11, and went to the wrong end of the pool. I forgot which one was the shallow end.

I sunk to the bottom and had to be dragged up by a lifeguard.

I do doggie style. I am not a good swimmer

I suppose doggy style is more instinctual
      And uses your glutes more

it is. as a kid i studied how my dog swam. I would say 'let's do it again Snoopy so I can swim like you".

I live on a small island and used to be able to swim quite well but I rarely swim at all now. I took lessons all the way up to Bronze Medallion and then bailed out of the LifeGuard program. I do NOT love swimming at all and I never have.

I was in a competitive swimming team for a few years. it can be so boring sometimes...

I love to swim and adore water, but I am not a strong swimmer. When I was in college, I got up to 50 laps in the Olympic size pool, but that was a combination of breast stroke, front crawl and back stroke all performed very slowly. I much prefer playing in the water to actual swimming for exercise.

The latest method for teaching kids how to swim here in Israel, is to start with Front crawl instead of the move obvious Breaststroke. They claim it is easier and more natural.

I only feel "like a fish in water" when I swim crawl.

I can swim pretty well, but it's not really my thing.

Advice - Butterfly stroke is best for impressing the girls at the pool.
    1. Stillthinking
It's also the most freaking hard.
    2. urikalish
A correct technique can make it so much easier.

I see people at the pool having trouble with the head movement when breathing.

Anybody here got this issue with Front crawl?

Pathetic. Three strokes of the crawl and I'm out of breath and ready to sink to the bottom of Hades. Also I have absolutely no body fat and can't float. I can manage a lap or two doing a backwards backstroke, usually swallowing half the pool in the process.

I live in Australia... does that answer it?

I know best how to stay afloat and move around, and that's good enough for me.

I haven't had a swim since 2004 or so. Not a great swimmer, anyway.

the idea of not being able to swim is so weird for me, it's like walking

i manage a decent breaststroke... but I enjoy floating on my back like a lifeless log the most...

This is a strong motivation to learn to swim, and for all, in our society.
