    is love universal phenomenon !
    1. rjl2000
      what is that?
    2. CarolusMagnus
Yes, it is a universal force
  3. wastedlola
hmmm interesting!!, China is so fascinating i think!, can i ask you, who is your favorite chinese artist or designer ? 8)
    1. rjl2000
In china have so many artist, which area do you perfer?

Zhang yi mou is a moive director whom i like .“hero”,”House of Flying Daggers“ you konw it?
  4. wastedlola
yea, that was good, not as good as crouching tiger' though..8), how about fashion designer ?
    1. CrisRo
Yeah, but Hero had the most beautiful cinematography of any movie I've ever seen IMO.
    2. rjl2000
I do not kown. that is pity. Now in china most of people like Japan or South Kerea fashion
    1. rjl2000
sorry I can not open this page.but i think that is impossible to learn chinese in 5 minutes.
  5. CrisRo
Do you think the standard of living for the majority of the Chinese people will increase anytime soon (Will the average Chinese person's life improve?)
    1. rjl2000
if you go to the city, yes, most people have improved their own standard of living.but if you go to the rural area, the village, the level increase very low.
    2. CarolusMagnus
No it will decrease as in all other countries, but still maintainiung a GIP grows of about 8 percent, after 14 percent.
  6. wastedlola
can you say one thing you like about china ?
and one thing you do not like ?
that would be interesting ! 8)
    1. CrisRo
I've heard about people getting into trouble in China for writing things like that.
    2. rjl2000
it is hard to say in english.I love my country.we have great history, and work hard ,smart people.but we also have some weakness.
    3. rjl2000
in china now is more open.if you read my blog, you will see more intreasting things in china .
we can say someting we do not like china.but that is meaning the government, not the country.
    4. CarolusMagnus
No she cannot! Never heard of the Chinese illness of "loosing face"?
    5. 86john
china only have some weaknesses? hmm... how is the taste of milk with melamine and what is the taste of man made egg?
  7. rjl2000
the french president will meet the Dalailama tibet.what is wrong with the NICOLAS SARKOZY
    1. wastedlola
hmmm, no offense, but there is quite a lot of support for the dalai lama and his cause across the world i think..
    2. CarolusMagnus
Sarkozy in France is only doing what Angela Merkel in Germany and the Bundesrat in Switzerland was doing too. After all, the Dalai Lama is still the democratic chosen head of the Tibetians and the only person who can be adressed for questions about Tibet and China relationship.

Do you really think, the whole world is dancing the China tune and declares Dalai Lama as persona non grate. You and China seem to me too much as megalomaniacs.
    3. 86john
nothing is wrong. why must tibet belong to china?
  8. COOLINGSTAR9
China is a great country. It has long history, a great civilization of at least 5000 years old.
China has gone through ups and down in the history. Now, china is more developed than ever.
  9. gentledove
I love chinese people, how long before their government will trust them with real freedom
    1. rjl2000
wait what is your mean of the real freedom?
    2. flamingpoodle
Real freedom? Like, the freedom to chose the style of government they want?
Oh, wait. China has that already..

Now Iraq is a different story. As soon as the Americans go home, Iraq might have real freedom again.
    3. gentledove
I have too many contacts in China to believe that people are free to be christian, despite what the Govt says-surely freedom of belief [or non belief] is a fundamental right.
    4. CarolusMagnus
      Real freedom is:

      1. complying to the Charta of Human Right, to the Public International Laws and Democracy.
      A. including free Internet and free speech and free press.
      B. exluding the 5000 - 6000 political prisoners shot every year (a sad world record!)
      C. excluding torturing Tibetians for over 50 years

      and so on...
you know better than to as back "What is real freedom!"
    5. 86john
china have freedom? they can't even have 2 kids.
  10. neta

What do you think about Three Kingdoms? Why it's so damn popular?
    1. rjl2000
do you mean the Three kingdoms in the history of china ?
    2. sayzlim
humm... the strategy, the story, everything about three kingdom can let many people learn something... Although I don't really like the story about it but I prefer to play it on PS 2 or PC rather than watching the film...
    3. CrisRo
You should read the books they are based on. =-p
    4. rjl2000
I konw what you say. The story of three kingdom has been made for TV game or PS game
  12. CrisRo
Is it true that if I go to a pub or bar in China, everyone will buy me a drink and be offended if I refuse?

What exactly is the custom if I'm wrong (I probably am)
    1. sayzlim
I don't know but pretty sure you are wrong
    2. rjl2000
No.I think you are wrong. But if you have dinner with your chinese friend in china, you will enjoy the Liquor-China Spirits, mostly be persuaded to enjoy the Liquor

Do you know who to write to about missing relatives in the mainland China?
    1. rjl2000
      “missing relatives ”what is that?
    2. CarolusMagnus
relatives = mum and dad, brother and sister, grandma and grandpa and all you love. Missing = Strong feeling of sorrow not being with them together.
  17. creemos
I know so little of the Chinese culture though my father called the eastern Chinese coast his home for nearly two years during World War II.

Most recently, I would listen to Chinese/English Language Radio News on my short wave as I hiked the 2,175 mile long Appalachian Trail wilderness in the eastern U.S. Enjoyed immensely!

    Hi rjl2000,

When we were living in Hong Kong, my wife and I visited your city in 1995, back when the Pudong tower was being built. The Peace Hotel was wonderful. You could go up to the top and have something to eat, then wander down through the old rooms. They were all open, nobody seemed to mind because the place was mostly empty.

My question is: Do many Chinese young people want to move away from China and settle in another country, or do they feel they have enough opportunities at home? What do your friends say?
    1. rjl2000
Now Shanghai has change a lot!that is more beautiful!

      My answer to you question:
NOw there are a lot of young chinese guys in foreign country, speacaily in USA,european. Most of them would not to come back to china.
China is becoming more and more development, and for our young guys,we should meet more challenge. For example, the seeking job, buying house, support parents.Opportunity and challenge stay together!
  26. aningeniousname

On the east coast of the U.S. we have "duck sauce." It is basically a fruit flavored sugar sauce that goes great on rice or anything fried. On the west coast of the U.S., I haven't found it. Is there something in China that our Americanized duck sauce is based on?
    1. rjl2000
a thick sweet and pungent Chinese condiment

but I think in we have the duck sauce, but it is differnt from the Americanized duck sauce
  29. philpay

Is it true that small feet used to be a popular thing for women?

I was having 3 but now its only 1
    2. rjl2000
"one hair on their chest" what is that?
    3. acousticguitarist
one hair, not two, not a chest full, one equals one. Or is it that they don't have more than one?

      Pandas have quite a few
    4. acousticguitarist
Mr, Chinese men like yourself don't have hairy chests, that's neither good nor bad, but some Chinese men only have one hair on their chest
  38. kdawg68

I have just finished reading this thread and would like to ask you:

Who has brainwashed you? Every time, somebody is asking you a politically difficult question, you play being stupid by asking "what is ....." claiming you are a complete nincompoop.

1st Question: Why do Chinese men only have one hair on their chest? (was a funny question, not answered)

    2. Question: Mao invaded Tibet in 1949. Now China says, Tibet is China. Tibet belongs to China, although it was independent before. Don't you think, when somebody has stolen something, the thug should give it back? Or is steeling a national sport in China?

    3. Why do Chinese hardly ever answer honestly what the think and hide behind lies?

(P.S. I know a lot of Chinese and have constant contact to them.)
    1. 86john
well, china sure did ask for the return of the head. the dog head and pig head? or horse head? whatever head it is. then, the macau bidder cheat the world by getting the bid but do not want to pay. what a cheater.
    2. 86john

    1. CarolusMagnus
Very few people in China speak English - Only in five star hotels. Beware of getting lost in the streets without basic knowledge in mandarin. You wouldn't even find the next toilet.
    2. 86john
yup. you might not be able to go back to you own room
  55. OneMuslim
