Hillary Clinton's speech tonight at the DNC was magnificent! I'm devoting my blog to DNC coverage for the week and am developing a story praising the Clinton speech. Here it is: opinionstreams.com/blog/?p=37
In my opinion, she left no room for her supporters to legitimately continue their refrain from supporting Barack Obama and she also left no room for them to go to McCain.
So what did you think? Do you think her speech did all it needed to do? Do you think her supporters will be satisfied? Is McCain starting to shake in his boots now?
Oh, GMoney - I'm obviously co-opting the title of your earlier discussion about Michelle Obama

She did good. Obama should get a bit of a bump out of it. I'm not going to draw any more mean cartoons about Hillary because of that.

Extremely proud of a great lady and a true leader for the people. She has asked her loyal supporters to vote for Obama in November because it isn't about her, it is about what she stood for that we need to elect a Democrat this fall. She has given her full support to The Democratic Nominee and we who stood by her must now shift our support to him.
I will say that the Republicans are trying to pull a rabbit out of their hat in order to make it look as if the Democratic Party is divided and thinking we would be thoughtless enough to vote for McCain. I don't think so.
Well done Hillary and thank you for showing the world again, that women can do great things. We will keep working toward uniting our country and helping to bring some semblance of order to our people.-
There are times that some things need to be put on the front page..... in my opinion. The political forum does not get the traction that it should.
You will see that people post here that don't post in the political section at ALL.
I want a discussion, not 20 comments to a thread in a week.
I understand that there are certain people that want anything to do with politics to be put on the political section, but I just don't agree. I have posted a few in the political section, but it does not feel the same. The politicals and the political section has been made out to be the red headed step child of blogcatalog.

Didn't watch the speech, but not convinced that anything Hillary does or doesn't say will clinch the election for the democrats. A lot still remains to be seen.

I don't have tv reception and have dial up... give me a break.
But the argument is valid. A lot remains to be seen... I think in the next 2 weeks we'll have a much better idea of how this speech has or hasn't united the party. I know too many Hillary supporters who are keeping their options open. It remains to be seen if this speech has clinched the deal for them. Previous ones have not. -
You can listen to the speech here: www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=94003143. Dialup can handle audio. You can read it via the same link too.
I thought Mark Warner's keynote address was good too: www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=94003032 -
@timethief - I really don't want to start a thread creep here and I certainly don't want to inspire the ire of BCers who demand political discussions be confined to the political group. I think you may recall contributing to my earlier discussion around the question "why doesn't anyone contribute to groups?" (www.blogcatalog.com/discuss/entry/why-doesnt-anyone-post-on-the-groups).
We came up with some good suggestions there and I forwarded our concerns to BC administration, but nothing's been done yet and the groups are underutilized (inspite of my contributions). I just went to the group - the second hottest discussion hasn't been posted to in over 11 hours and the hottest discussion is only active because gmoney and I just contributed to it (the question was posted over an hour ago).
My problem with the political group, and others like it, continues to be that it is pretty dead compared to the main board. That's primarily why I posted here. My desire is to maximize interaction with the community because I value your input. Given my desire, I have very little incentive to post to the political discussions. -

BITING my style, I swear at times I am trend setter around this place.....
but in all seriousness, she did a good job. -
It was a very good speech and she clearly made the point that she's behind Obama and her supporters should get behind him as well. No Democrat wants another 4 years of Bush.
Of course, Fox News and the right-wing were immediately questioning her sincerity and whether she really did enough. Quickly switching between various news channels during events like this clearly demonstrates their bias. -
You can see the actual moment Hillary gives it up to Obama at the convention here:

The speech was a tiny band aid over the gaping wound she inflicted during the nomination campaign. Clinton's desperate grab for power has provided the Republicans with plenty of ammunition to fire at Obama and guess what they are firing it.

So was Clinton lying when she said that Obama was less qualified than McCain to deal with that 3am call? Or maybe the poor dear has post traumatic stress disorder after that Bosnian sniper incident which was a figment of her imagination. -
Hillary brought it -- and she had to to appease the rest of the party.
However, if Obama loses in November, the Clintons will certainly get the blame, justifiably so IMHO. Hillary kept her campaign going long after it was clear she lost, and wasn't none to gracious a loser either.
Her supporters keep talking about 18,000,000 cracks in the glass ceiling -- I think that ceiling is over the DNC.
