I hate it when people tell me I need a TAN.
Why do people TAN anyway?

I am a fellow pale person...rejoice in your chalkiness! In Ancient Greek societies the paler you were the better because it meant you were wealthy enough not to have to work in the sun. And...at least we don't have ugly tan-lines or look like our arses and boobs have been sitting in cold water for 3 days...

I went to the beach but stayed under the umbrella the whole time. I just don't like the feeling of being baked....

What about the wrinkles and skin cancer.... no thank you! I just wish everyone would stop saying that I need a tan!

Having some Naive American in me I naturally have a little brown to my skin and that is really all I need. I think people who tan to much and look like leather, look unhealthy and older than their age. I'm ok with people thinking I'm younger than I am.

    Yay for the undead!

Or as my grandma likes to say 'English Rose'

haha my friends think i'm crazy when i put on spf70 before we go to the pool... i LOVE being pale... it makes me feel more unique (plus, wanting to stay out of the sun gives me an excuse for big sunglasses, floppy hats, and pinup girl bathing suits at the pool...)

also, i have really, really red hair... red hair + tan = TERRIBLE look!

I wish I was a little more tan but, there is no way that I'm baking my skin to get that way.

My kids look like little chicken nuggets... they are so cute! They love the beach!

People are allowed to have their preferences..I'm a black woman and I love it when my skin gets golden in the summer...makes my eyes stand out more.

I hear you on the preference thing but why is it that I can be minding my own business and somebody comes up to me and tell me that I NEED a tan? That is so disrespectful.

I love a nice natural tan! Sexy

okay a natural tan would be what? Because I saw some pretty disturbing colors on the beach yesterday.... I wanted to pour Aloe on a few people... I thought that I smelled their skin baking....

LOL I feel your pain on the "no tan" issue. I travel to Jamaica 4 times a year for blog material and always come back as white as I left. People don't even ask how my trips are anymore, they just ask why the hell I'm still so white! LOL.

They obviously know whats best for you.You should listen.

      What do you mean?

In many cultures pale is superior. I say you keep it

For me it's not the color thing... it's just the fact that I don't want to bake in the sun... it seems like torture!

I have no choice but to be pale. I wear sunscreen so I don't look like used up leather when I hit 50. And forget skin cancer!
    1. LSKcrochet
Oh and not everyone wants to be lightskin. Just like not everyone wants a TAN. lol!

somehow along the way the world decided tan was the thing to be, despite the fact it makes you wrinkle and can cause skin cancers. while some people look healthier with a tad bit of colour to them, it is not really the natural way to be. if you were born black or brown, you're meant to be that colour (if only Michael Jackson would have paid attention to that fact). if you were born pale, that's the way to be then. no body NEEDS a tan. i see all these young women who go to the tanning salons that come out looking like they should be 40-45 years old. around here, (for the young women) the tanner you are the more you're associated with being skanky (mostly because those types are the ones you see whoring it up). so be glad you're pale and don't listen to the fools who want you to tan.

      Exactly!!!!!!!!

But the grass is always greener, unfortunately. In predominantly black countries, skin bleaching is the big thing. They all wanna be lightskinned.
    2. LSKcrochet
It's not just in predominantly black countries... it's all over. India, Asia, and Latin countries. I didn't know this until recently when I viewed commercials on skin bleaching creams in several different languages.

Now that I didn't know. Thanks!

    Slip slop slap and wrap

and if all else fails you can always get out of bed, go outside in the sun put on some sun tan lotion, cover up with clothing, put on a hat and sunglasses and go about your daily business

Most Asian prefer to do skin bleaching to make their skin looks lighter. And Caucasian wants their skin to be tan. Most people not satisfy with what they have, as JamCan said neighbour grass is always be greener:D

I'm Indonesian, and naturally we are tan. But people here want to have lgihter skin tone, they says that they will looks more beautiful when they have light skin. Almost all of moisturizer and lotion product are contain whitening chemicals. Some of those products (The cheap products)are not safe for our skin because it's contain mercury. But people don't care about their health and keep use it. What a pitty!

For me. you do not have to listen what people surrounds you told you when it's not good for you. When you are pale and don't want to be tan, or you are tan/black/brown and don't want to be light just keep it that way;) Try to love what you have^_^

I sometimes joke about being pasty, but, really, it doesn't bother me. Even if I wanted to tan, my skin doesn't work that way.
    1. SweetViolet
That's me! My skin + sun = burn, peel, repeat!

I am also fair, being a natural blonde of northern European extraction (that 1/16 Sioux hasn't helped a bit!). I wear an SPF100 when I go out for more than a few minutes...the sun in South Africa is particularly intense.

My mother lived in the desert in Nevada and Arizona for many years. When she was 50 she was so wrinkled from the sun she looked older than her own mother. I am 62 and am regularly guessed for being 10 to 15 years younger...I have no wrinkles and very few lines. I also do not spend much time in the sun without protecting my skin.

I envy my husband, however...he is Indian and a lovely warm brown colour that darkens to a rich coffee in the summer when he drives around with the top down. We make quite a pair, the burnished brown Indian fellow with the wavy black hair and the palefaced blonde!

I hate tan skin too. It just looks wrong and stupid. How many inteligent people do you see with a tan...
other than Britnet Spears, Paris Hilton, Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers that is... /end sarcasm
Also, if you read my post about getting a tan- artificial or sunlight- it can cause skin cancer and againg.

      you forgot John Boehner

I love the people who go tanning and come back with "orange" skin. They look like circus freaks.

I know exactly what you mean, I'm pale and proud of it!
I think it's silly to use tanning beds or not use sun lotion in the sun as it's so dangerous, and fake tan just looks streaky and like you've been tangoed!
    1. LSKcrochet
I'm not proud of my pale skin I'm just happy to have skin! I just don't like the idea of tanning..... I've had sun poisoning on more then a few occasions and I think that I've developed a phobia lol!
