I got hit by a car today.

I was biking to lunch and a champagne colored Lexus SUV turned right at an intersection and sideswiped me.

I bounced off the passenger side door, and was knocked off my bike, just missing a parked car.

I'm fine! Not even a scrape or a bruise to show for it. Didn't bang my head, or injure myself in any way.

About half a dozen people came rushing over to help me and make sure I was OK, but the driver sat behind the wheel, doing nothing.

She didn't roll down the window, didn't get out of the car. Didn't even ask me if I was OK.

I think she didn't quite realize that the loud thump she heard accompanied by "get out the f-in way, you dumb b-tch" was a biker she had just struck with her giant, gas guzzling, fat *ss SUV.

But, the people who came to help me were delightful.

What accidents have you been in?

    She got 20 points!
    1. Stillthinking
haha. If I ended up with a head injury, does she get bonus points?

And since I am an Asian woman, I can make Asian woman driver jokes.
    2. Friday13
haha. If I ended up with a head injury, does she get bonus points?

So do you, if you return the favor and give her one.
    3. Stillthinking
I didn't even leave a dent in her passenger side door, though I wish I did.
    4. dbowles1017
Nope. You (the driver) only get points for hitting them. What happens next is irrelevant. Unless that accident causes another accident, at which point a bonus multiplier comes into effect.
    5. Stillthinking
I did just barely miss a parked car and a multiple car back up resulted from the bystanders not allowing her to drive away.
    6. dbowles1017
Well the "you" is referring to the driver. You don't anything.
  2. DailyBeerReview
A taxi in NYC one time went a little too far into the intersection, then decided to back up as the light turned red. Backed up right into me. It was minor, I was walking, and when I slammed my fist onto the trunk of his taxi and cursed at him, he was very apologetic. I just kept walking. Not hurt but pissed. That's every person in NY, BTW.
    1. Stillthinking
Oh, that has happened to me. Chicago cabbies do stuff like that, but they also smell really, really bad.

Actually, my shoulder kind of hurts now. Maybe the shock of getting struck my 2 ton mass of champagne colored metal is wearing off and now I can start feeling the pain.
    2. DailyBeerReview
You keep saying champagne. That is not a typical color reference unless you work for Behr Paints. Maybe you should just go drink some.
    3. Stillthinking
You know what color I am referring to though, right? That late 90's, metallic yellowish silver color that was really popular for a couple of years.
  3. Theresa111
Just the same, go to the doctor to be certain you do not suffer concussion. Sorry this happened to you!
    1. Stillthinking
I didn't hit my head at all. I wasn't wearing my helmet, so its a godsend that I didn't hit my head.

Thank goodness you weren't hurt. I have been in two auto accidnets. Neither one was my fault. Both caused serious injuires. The worst was when a drunk got behind the wheel and passed out on the Trans Canada highway. His vehicle would have hit mine head on if the driver on the outside lane had not accelerated and put two car wheels on the concrete abutment in order to let my vehicle into his lane. As it was my car was sideswiped and I was badly injured.

Sadly the drunk was not charged for impaired droving, because by the time the police got to his home his car was in the garage and even though he was drunk, and his car did have damage and the paint from my car on it, it could not be proven that he was the driver at the time of the accident. He was charged with a lesser offense and paid the fine. My car was a total write off. My life was changed forever, and the drunk got off scott flipping free.
    1. Stillthinking
That is terrible! Here in the US, he would have been charged with reckless driving and abandoning the scene of an accident. He also would have been held liable for all your medical expenses.
    2. timethief
It would NOT have been any different where you live. What's key is proving who the driver of the vehicle was at the time of the accident.

He could not be charged with reckless driving or endangerment as he was not in the car when the police arrived at his home and none of us at the scene could identify him as the driver. None of his neighbors saw him drive his car into the garage. All we who were involved in the accident and witnessed the event could see was a bald head slumped over the wheel, and his car was parked in the garage when the police got to his home.

He could not be charged as the driver, let alone a drunk driver, who caused this specific accident. That was the key factor. Also, as he was not behind the wheel when the police arrived, they could not make him take a Breathalyzer test.

Consequently he could only be charged as the registered owner of the vehicle which had been in an accident and failed to report it. Insurance did cover the book value of my car and my medical expenses immediately thereafter. Once the original injures healed and the doctors' said there would be no continuing complications I signed off on the insurance claim. Then months later I had far more severe medical problems tracing back to the accident but I had already signed off on the claim.
    3. Stillthinking
      I am so sorry TT.
    4. timethief
It sucks but I try not to be bitter about it. I have taken defensive driving lessons and I'm scared in a healthy low key way when I see anyone driving erratically. I get the heck out of their way as soon as I can. Wry humor: Well, on the up side, there's no way I will ever become a road rager type ... lol
    5. Stillthinking
I was very lucky today and I will not be leaving my helmet behind again.
    6. timethief
WHAT! You weren't wearing a helmet! Promise yourself you will never go without one again. I'm still recovering from the head injury (skull fracture and concussion) I got at the end of last July when I fell 2 stories down and landed on my head and shoulder. Believe me when I say this last year has not been a picnic.
    7. Stillthinking
Oh, I have learned my lesson, I swear! I will be wearing my helmet from now on.

This is a huge problem that continues to be ignored...

Recently a former attorney general of Ontario, Canada was charged with murder after an altercation with an allegedly intoxicated off duty bicycle courier...Apparently the bicycle courier grabbed on to his fancy car and he sped up and the cyclist ended up being run over and crushed by the car...

Cars and bicycles sharing the roads is a recipe for disaster...We need special paths and/or lanes for cyclists...

Unfortunately no thought was given to cyclists when roads were first built in most cities...

Compounding the problem is that many governments have not put money collected from gasoline taxes into road maintenance and do not have the resources to repair the roads let alone build proper safe paths and lanes for cyclists...

Cycling is a good thing as it lessens greenhouse emmisions, energy consumption and promotes health and physical fitness...

We must address this problem as unlicensed and uninsured cyclists should not be driving on the same roads as cars and trucks...It is far too dangerous...
    1. Stillthinking
I agree with you as cycling is my primary form of transportation. I agree that most US cities are unequipped to deal with the increased number of cyclists on the road.

I always follow the rules of the road and stay in a designated bike lane. Wherever possible, I use bike paths and sidewalks.

The cyclists on the road is a huge concern for the City of Chicago and practically every few months, we hear of expanded rules and traffic safety laws in regards to motorists and cyclists.
    2. dbowles1017
It's those damn scientists and engineers fault for not making flying cars!
  6. jazzy2103
    hmm...

I got burnt once was was hospitalised for a while.

I feel butt-first in front of an uncoming car and my head was just a few inches infront of the bumper (thank the lord it stopped as another few more inches and boom!) I don't think she came out of the car either. but they were nice delightful passer bys though =]
    1. Stillthinking
I want to give the driver the benefit of the doubt and think she was in shock that she hit someone. The passerbys who stopped to help me were furious at her though.

One guy even started knocking on her window and insisting she roll it down and apologize for hitting me.
  7. Agit8r
SUV drivers are the worst. The suconsciously realize that they suck as drivers, so they surround themselves with 6000 pounds of steel that they can have deeply involving cell phone conversations in
    1. Stillthinking
It was a T intersection, where she could only turn right or go straight. She was looking left when she should have been looking in the direction she was turning.

I really wish I left a giant dent in her passenger door or at least scratched the heck out of it, but alas. Nothing.

I hate SUV's. No one needs an SUV unless they are using it for their business hauling stuff.

This was a Lexus too, so it was really a glorified Toyota station wagon and didn't have the engine power to haul anything.
    2. Agit8r
I stand by my statement... only, possibly editing to remove "as drivers" from it
    3. Stillthinking
      The gnome rocks!

My shoulder is starting to hurt actually. It's the one that bounced off the car.

It's a conspiracy by gas guzzlers to knock off the greenies one by one.
    4. timethief
My shoulder is starting to hurt actually. It's the one that bounced off the car.

      STOP!

Please, go and get an x-ray and a complete physical exam.

      NOW!
    5. Deray28
I agree with TT, it's better to be safe. Did you get her plates?
    6. timethief
      @stllthinking
OMG! Please go and get checked out. In my other accident I didn't do that and regret that to this very day. I thought I was fine. I wasn't!
    7. Stillthinking
I'm fine! It's just a little sore. No, I didn't get her plates because I felt fine.

      I don't even have a bruise!
    8. timethief
It's just a little sore - not even bruised. Right, that's what I said and later found out I had a dislocated shoulder and damaged rotator cuff. It has caused me grief ever since.

GO! Do it! Get checked out.

      *****head desk*****
    9. dbowles1017
My friend fell skiing at a low speed, and hurt her shoulder. 3 months later she was still complaining about it being sore. She had a slight separation.
    10. Stillthinking
Well, in three months, maybe I will have better health insurance. As it is, I have emergency only coverage with a MASSIVE deductible. I don't have the money to go to the ER. I am going to call my mom the nurse tomorrow if it still hurts.
    11. crazyTsu
Ah the GREAT AMERICAN "FIRST WORLD" HEALTH CARE kicks in again! You Americans are suckers of the first order!
Go to India and get treated. It'll be cheaper
  8. Deray28
I'm sorry to hear that happened to you ST and I'm glad it was not serious. Now the reprimand: WEAR YOUR HELMET!

You never know when a jerk like the one you encounter today will cross your life again, it is better to be protected.

Tucson is supposed to be a bicyclist-friendly city. I, as a driver, am very careful to give cyclists their space and I see more bike lines being drawn or expanded. But, it infuriates me when I see cyclists not following the rules. Biking against traffic, not wearing helmets, not signaling when turning, riding in pairs almost invading the car lines, not wearing preventive lights at night (most of all because Tucson doesn't have streets lights everywhere, only on major, really major streets), etc.

I know the woman in your accident is at fault and she should have at least apologized! You should take some aspirin or something, I know you don't feel it now but I'm sure you'll feel sore tomorrow.

As far as accidents, one on a bus, one with my best friend, a really stupid one the day I got my car and I got hit by a car as a pedestrian. I got a big bruise on my hip, it was a pick-up truck and spend a Christmas day all sore
    1. Stillthinking
I know, I know. It was dumb not to wear my helmet and I have learned my lesson. Chicago is supposed to be bike friendly as well. Mayor Daley is a HUGE supporter of biking and has done A LOT to make the city safer and easier for bikers.

She didn't apologize. In fact, I am fairly certain she thought it was my fault. It wasn't. I was in my bike lane and she should have been looking in the direction she was turning rather than whatever she thought she was doing.
    2. Deray28
I totally get how it happened, people are not used to look on the right-side mirror before turning right, especially if they have a giganormous SUV!
    3. Stillthinking
It was a t-intersection. There was no one coming from the left, so why she wasn't looking in the direction she was turning, I just don't understand at all!
  9. Theresa111
Hey StillThinking! Listen from to of us who have been very injured by drivers and get yourself checked out. Your auto and or health insurance should cover it. We're glad you're still thinking and do wear your helmet. You are very fortunate. Don't be scared. Get yourself examined.

I'm toasting you with my Samuel Adams Beer over at: the cocktail party. See first discussion. Cheers!
    1. Stillthinking
Thanks Theresa, but with my current employment situation, I am not going to the ER until I talk to my mom (the nurse) first. I will wait to see how I feel tomorrow and if it's really bad, then I will call her. She already hates that I ride my bike around the city and that I live alone. If she finds out unnecessarily that I got hit by a car, she'll never let it go.
    2. timethief
Please ice your shoulder just in case. Please continue to ice it all evening. Okay?
    3. Deray28
I understand the situation ST and I'm sorry if we are giving you a hard time. We are just concerned for you. As I said, take some aspirin or a muscle relaxant and do as TT says, ice your shoulder.
    4. Stillthinking
I just went to the freezer and grabbed the edamame. It's sitting on my shoulder as I type right now.

      I'm glad you all care.
    5. timethief
Get off the keyboard. Make popcorn and go and watch an epic movie while continuing to ice your shoulder.
    6. Stillthinking
I would rather chat with you guys. I don't have any fun movies right now.
    7. timethief
Okay ... but I have to break right now and eat dinner. The chick magnet, my new dog is hungry and dancing at my feet.
    8. Stillthinking
      Enjoy. Have a good dinner!

I've been in 4 accidents and none of them were my fault. Last one, the lady ran straight into the side of my car in a parking lot because she was driving the wrong way and there were no signs telling her to "Stop" (I told her, "There is no stop sign because you are driving the wrong way!). I got out, immediately started taking pictures, and she knew it was a done deal. If you hit my car, I'm a "take pictures, shoot video first, and talk last" kind of guy.
    1. Stillthinking
That is actually smart. The worst accident I was ever in, I was sitting in an 88 Mercury Sable at a red light.

This woman on a cell phone drove straight into me (from behind) without even braking. She destroyed the back end of my car and I ended up with really terrible whip lash. It turned out, this was the 3rd accident she had been in 4 months AND her license was suspended. She wasn't supposed to be driving at all.

It was an SUV that hit me that time too.
    2. trailofpen
Yeah, I learned the hard way (Civil Court) that hearsay goes a long way when you have no concrete evidence (pictures, video). I won't have any of that anymore.
    3. Stillthinking
That car ended up getting totaled and I ended up having one more reason to hate driving.
  11. jeremyjanson
I've noticed that bicycles are surprisingly good at taking collisions for humans. I've had so many friends tell me that they've been in accidents with cars while on bike and didn't suffer any injury or hurt as a result - if only motorcycles were that good.
    1. Stillthinking
Well, most bicyclists who die in collisions are because they are thrown in the way of oncoming traffic. Typical situation is that a car door swings open in the path of a biker or a car (like today's situation) cuts off the biker. If I had fallen the other way (into traffic rather than away from traffic) I would have been toast.

The City of Chicago surveys injuries in ER's every couple of months, and the number of bicycle related injuries has skyrocketed.
    2. jeremyjanson
Still better then motorcycles. Those always kill you in collisions.
    3. Stillthinking
Speed probably has a lot to do with motorcycle fatalities. Man powered bikes aren't cruising along the highway at 50 miles an hour.

I have been thinking that next year, I might invest in a Vespa, but found out that Illinois requires you to have a motorcycle license to operate a Vespa.
    4. jeremyjanson
Oh that's too bad! Well, look at the bright side, if you get the motorcycle license, you can have, in your driveway, a Vespa for when you feel like being good for the enivronment and a Harley for when you feel gangbang!
    5. Stillthinking
That is true. I just don't know how to go about getting a motorcycle license. Do I buy the Vespa, hire a driving instructor, then go to the DMV for the test?

I actually got to ride a Harley cruiser a couple of years ago. It was awesome! Yes, I was riding bitch...
    6. jeremyjanson
AWWWWEEESSSOOOOOMMMMMMEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!! Yeah I'd do your research. I've never lived in Illinois - the only parts of Illinois I've even been to were Chicago (4 hours waiting for an AMTRAK train) and Egypt (going through on Greyhound Bus). Sound like a motorcycle kind of lady though.
    7. Stillthinking
Hehe, I am not a motorcycle type lady though. Way too prim and proper. I am, however, beyond cute on a Vespa with a skirt, leather jacket and Ray Ban Wayfarers.
  12. Deray28
    Ok, let's entertain ST.

As I have mentioned before I was in a bus accident when I was in high school. I was in the marching band and we were invited to play in a town about 4 hours from my city. So, off we went, properly separated, one bus for the girls and one for the boys. There were too many boys and a few of them ended up in our bus anyway but only 3 or 4.

5 Km (about 8 miles) before we arrived to the town, the driver lost control of our bus, some say he fell asleep, we don't know till this day. Anyhow, the driver lost control of the bus, said bus starting doing a very broad zig-zag on the highway until it rolled over. Everyone and everything (we were carrying instruments, music-sheet holder, etc) ended on the ceiling of the bus. I actually flew with my seat. I lost consciousness for a while and was trapped underneath the music-sheet holders and 2 of my friends that landed on top of me. I noticed my head was bleeding but I thought it wasn't serious, I didn't know that all my back was covered in blood. At the time I woke up the boys had arrived from a crazy run, they were in front of us and noticed what had happened when they were about 1 kM away so they ran all the way.

My best guy-friend got me out of the bus trough a window, a safety window nonetheless, you know school bus window, very small. I have no idea how I fitted trough it, jajajaja. We all got sent to the tiny clinic in town, it only had 1 doctor, 2 nurses and 2 beds. They were going crazy. Fortunately there were no major injuries. I needed 10 stitches on my head as did one of my friends, another one had a dislocated shoulder, one broken arm and a neck injury that was noted immediately. There were other 6 neck injuries that got diagnosed when we got back to our city. I hurt my back and till this day I can't seat on the floor because my legs will go numb right away, I can't be in the same position for a long time because my back starts hurting. The doctors said I thorned my muscles and there was nothing they could do about it, that I would have to deal with back pain for the rest of my life.

The funny part is that we actually stayed in the town that night and we played, all bruised. The guys got drunk, we had a night by the beach and about 6-7 new couples were formed that night. None of the couples survived 2 weeks after the accident, jajajajaja.
    1. Stillthinking
      That was horrifying Deray!

Dear GAWD you are lucky you weren't hurt worse. That's not entertainment, that's a nightmare.

Did you end up getting drunk and hooking up band camp style? I hope you did. At least that part sounded fun. People probably needed a little comfort after such a traumatic day.
    2. Deray28
The guys certainly got drunk, they got scared you know, jajajaja. I wanted to hook-up with the guy that got me out of the bus but he wasn't interested.
    3. Stillthinking
Oh, I'm sorry Deray. He must have terrible taste, because you're cute as a button.
    4. Deray28
He admitted to that later on, jejeje. He told me that the guy that had me would be the luckiest man in the world. The latter prompted me to reveal my love for him, him feeling incredibly bad and me losing his friendship. A couple of years after that we saw each other again and it wasn't weird anymore. If I see him now all I remember are the good times, we hug if we bump into each other now. He is a good guy, he just wasn't into me
    5. Stillthinking
Well, I'm glad you're still friends with him and moved passed all this. Though I gotta say, you are one GUTSY girl for telling him how you felt. That is way braver than I have ever been.

I'm such a pathetic girl. I waste away with unrequited love for the ones who don't know I am alive and ignore the ones who are interested. Then a couple years later, wonder what would have happened with the ones I ignored.
    6. Deray28
That was the first and last time I did that. Rejection is not fun!
    7. Stillthinking
No, it's not fun at all. That's why it's great to be a girl though. We're not expected to chase.
  13. Arcticulates
I am so glad your okay. When I lived in Florida I rode my bike everywhere and guys would think it was fun to drive right behind me with the bumper almost touching my back tire.. I would scare me so much! I got knocked over a couple of times by people coming too close, I was hugging the side of the road as much as I could, the tires would hit the curb and over I would go..So frustrating!
    1. Stillthinking
Thank you so much, Articulates. I am fine, really!

That's really illegal here. If you hit a bicyclist in Chicago, it's an automatic felony charge.
  14. siralmo
    i have had none
    1. Stillthinking
You're still young. There is plenty of time left to change that.

Excuse me, but my edamame is all melted and I have to stick it back in the freezer for a while...

      *trots off*
    2. siralmo
      alright then..
    3. Stillthinking
Edamame is still refreezing. It was for my shoulder.
    4. siralmo
oh ... hahaha i thought it was for eating
    5. Stillthinking
Yeah, it started feeling a bit sore a couple hours ago. It was the one that bounced off the car. I don't have a bag of peas, but edamame is a legume, so I figured it would work the same way...
  15. Theresa111
As a matter of safety do not go to sleep for six hours. Feel better soon. I drank a toast but my beer bottle is half full. It takes me a while to finish one.
    1. Stillthinking
Ok, I will do that, but I promise you! I didn't hit my head. Thanks for the toast, I appreciate it.

Skol, Cheers, Slainte, Salut, Kom Bei, Prost!
  16. LaurenM622
we have a corner on my campus where cars ALWAYS turn right on red without really stopping or looking because cars are hardly ever coming out of the parking lot on the left side of the light. however, students are ALWAYS walking through the intersection. i was walking through the intersection on "walk" in the rain with two cups of coffee on my way to class and was nudged by an older woman in a fancy car who slammed on her breaks at the last minute. normally i just glare at the person and keep on walking, but i was soooo mad (because of the rain & the late for class...) so i sacrificed my $2.00 and dumped both cups of coffee on the hood of her car as i walked the rest of the way around.

    i'm glad you're ok!
    1. Stillthinking
I would have been mad too! I hate it when they can't be bothered to look at pedestrians or bikers.

I didn't have a cup of coffee to toss at the driver, but one of the passerbys was seriously pissed off. He might have scared the driver he was so mad that she hit me.

Thanks, I'm REALLY glad I am OK.
  17. nothingprofound
I got slammed in the butt by a telephone van when I was three years old. Sent me flying ten feet in the air. When I landed it was on my face and my nose got slightly shifted to the right. To this day you can feel the bump in my septum.
    1. Stillthinking
OMG! You are so lucky you weren't more seriously injured. Do you have an actual memory of it happening?
    2. nothingprofound
The events leading up to the accident are crystal clear, but I don't remember being hit. It all happened so fast. I woke up and saw my mother kneeling over me. Apparently, I had been unconscious for about five minutes.
    3. Stillthinking
That's amazing. Well, I would say you had a lucky escape if you only broke your nose.
  18. Agit8r
people take driving altogether to unseriously... as if they were playing a video game or something.
    1. Stillthinking
Like reverse Frogger? The object being to hit the frog as it crosses the road?
    2. Agit8r
As in "i might crash. Oh well, I have seven more lives... ooh I've been waiting for this call!"
    3. Stillthinking
      I don't have 9 lives. Then again, I don't drive anymore.
    4. Agit8r
darned right, you have 8 after today!

this might be funnier if you had your old avatar
    5. Stillthinking
Ah yes, the kitty avatar. You're right, I used up one of my lives today.
  19. HollytheHousewife
I got hit by a MAC truck today. Or atleast it feels like it.
    1. Agit8r
      just off work?
    2. Stillthinking
      I'm sorry Holly. Bad day?
  20. HollytheHousewife
Nothin new. Good days are far and few between lately. That's ight tho bc tomorrow is another day.
    1. Stillthinking
That's right. It's ok, we've all got tough times right now.
  21. celticmusicfan
I am so sorry to hear you got hit by a car. You should have it checked by the doctor. And how that driver needs a kick on the a$$.
    1. Stillthinking
      Thanks Celtic.

I'm fine, really I am. I can't really afford to see a doctor right now unless I know for certain that something is definitely wrong.

My stupid accident involved a bicycle and daftness

    Bicycle Blunders

But at least I was wearing a helmet! You maroon.

    Stand in the naughty corner.
    1. Stillthinking
Oh dear, I have been too naughty for the naughty step. I have been sent to the naughty corner...

I will wear my helmet from now on.
    2. crpitt
You have to wear it in the naughty corner and face the wall, I don't want too see the naughty face.

I got a haircut today with a new hairdresser as my usual stylist was unavailable. I am rather unhappy with it, but I will think it will look ok after growing out for a couple of weeks.

I asked for a layered, modern bob ala Posh Spice and ended up with Kate Gosselin instead.

So, if I have to face the naughty corner, you will be forced to view my terrible haircut. It was an unfortunate day. First I get hit by a car, then get a bad haircut.
    4. crpitt
Urggh you said Posh Spice! Serves you right.

    5. Stillthinking
I didn't ask for Posh, I asked for a modified, texturized Bob and showed the guy a picture (not Posh) from a magazine.

I am trying not to get upset. It's only hair. It will grow out. Besides, I survived getting hit by several thousand pounds of car without injury. I really shouldn't complain about something that will grow back.
  23. HollytheHousewife
You could go to the er
    1. Stillthinking
There is no reason to right now. I'm just a little sore. No bones sticking out, no bleeding, no head injury.
    2. Agit8r
crap. you need to get checked out. did you get her insurance info or anything?
    3. Stillthinking
No, I am fine this morning. No soreness.
    4. Agit8r
      thats good
    5. Stillthinking
      Thanks gnome!
    6. Agit8r
I don't remember the last time I woke up without soreness...
  24. NatetheGrate
    Did you hit it back?
    1. Stillthinking
I didn't even make a scratch or a dent in it. I was hoping that I would have caused some sort of damage, but darn Japanese cars are so durable!
  25. RoflopagosIsland
omg...weren't we just talking about you getting punched at one time randomly yesterday?? You need to not leave your house...ever. lol. Glad you are okay!
    1. Stillthinking
Thank you, but I am fine! Really! And when I got punched in the face, I was 14. I'm 33 now. I think 19 years is long enough between incidences...
  26. wagerwitch
    Where did my comment go?

    Oh well - ..

AGAIN - I'm with everyone - go to the docs if you can - You'd be surprised how many injuries are NOT noticed until the next day or the next week.

Be good to your body and your health.

That nutty lady needs to be contacted by the police!
    1. Stillthinking
Thank you for your concern. I really appreciate it, but I am doing fine this morning! I am going to pay attention for the next few days, but I think everything is going to be fine!
  27. tcinvestor
What an Ass!! I had the same thing happen to me when I was about 22yrs old. This lady pulled out of a street crossed three lanes of traffic and plowed me over in the median. I went flying, crushed my helmet and cd player(no ipods then), trashed my bike, busted me up a little and she kept going. Luckily another driver pulled in front of her car to cut her off and force her to stop. People stopped to make sure I was fine etc. Never once did she even get out of the car. Some people are really just plain idiots..period. Glad your ok.
    1. Agit8r
It goes beyond idiocy. Some people find no value in others lives. Likely why they drive carelessly in the first place
    2. Stillthinking
You're really lucky you're fine! Your accident sounds much more serious than mine.

I don't wear my IPOD when I ride. I don't feel safe because I need to hear the traffic.

I really think she wasn't sure what happened and was in shock. She didn't know how to react and I am also sure she blamed me for the accident, considering she didn't apologize.

Your lady sounds like she could have killed you and was trying to make a run for it.
  28. Chucklington
    Yikes, glad you're okay.
    1. Stillthinking
      Thanks Chuck!
  29. nogueira
I'm very sorry for you. You need to go to an ER. Have you or anyone memorized her license? You can repport it to the police. In Brazil, she would get in serious trouble with the law. I just can't believe how people all around the world just seem don't care for anyone but them. They don't care for the others lives.

I had just one accident many years ago. I hit a car which had stopped suddenly. It was not serious but I remember I got very nervous.
    1. Stillthinking
I am fine, really! It wasn't that bad, it just scared me and probably looked really scary to onlookers.

She would actually get into a lot of trouble here too. In Chicago, if you hit a biker, it is automatically the driver's fault (regardless of the situation) and then if the biker is seriously injured, it's a felony charge.
    2. Agit8r
fortunately the plate number is imprinted on her left "quarter-pannel"
    3. Stillthinking
hahaha! I actually got rear ended once, very minor bump, but the guy hit me hard enough that the logo of his Toyota was imprinted on my rear bumper!

I really was disappointed that I didn't damage her car. I was on my bike! At the very least, it would have been great if I left a dent enough scratches that she would be forced to get a new door.

I'm sure she's probably telling her friends and family about the Crazy biker who jumped out in front of her and how lucky SHE is that she wasn't hurt.
    4. Agit8r
or how lucky she is that her car wasn't damaged

bikers are just people who can't afford cars, so they aren't really people anyway.

That's certainly how it seemed people thought when i used to bike to work.
    5. Stillthinking
People in Chicago aren't like that because there is such a campaign to get MORE people to give up their cars. I have never had anyone ask me if I bike because I can't afford a car.

I could afford the car when I gave up driving, but now that I am unemployed, I am so grateful I gave up driving when I did. That car cost me easily 600 a month in car payment, insurance, gas and parking.
    6. Agit8r
yeah. cars are a rip-off. If I lived within convenient distance of work, I would bike or walk. I would still keep some cheap clunker around for weekends etc, though
    7. Stillthinking
I actually pay for a car sharing service. For 15 dollars a month, I get 3 hours a month IGoCars. If I need more, it's 10 dollars an hour, but honestly, I don't need the car more than once a month.

Years ago, I could have bought an old VW, but my vanity at the time insisted that I buy a brand new car. I would show up with my clunker week after week, I just cringed when I would park it next to their shiny new cars. So, when my friend bought a brand new Audi convertible, I impulsively went out and bought a new car. It wasn't an Audi, but it was my first new car and I was enormously pleased for about 6 months.

Then I decided to move to the city and stop driving entirely.
    8. Agit8r
It goes beyond vanity. I've known someone who lost a job due to lack of "reliable transportation" even though they were able to get rides from friends/family. Quite a bit of classism goes on in the workplace
    9. Stillthinking
I have seen that in job ads actually, the insistence that you have reliable transportation. It's usually connected to some crappy suburban job. I have resigned myself to having to buy a car if said crappy suburban job demands it, but I am not happy about it.
    10. Agit8r
they just want to make sure that you are one of them; "a car in every driveway" and all that
  30. Agit8r
So now that we know you're ok, i can ask; did you scrape your wenis?
    1. Stillthinking
I did not scrape my wenis, thanks. I do however, exfoliate my wenis everyday.
    2. Agit8r
me too. wait... what were we talking about again?
    3. Stillthinking
That little wrinkly fold on your elbow, right?
    4. crazyTsu
And what's "exfoliate"? (and I thot I knew my english)
    5. Stillthinking
It means to scrub the dead, dry skin off so that the newer, fresher, pinker and more attractive skin shows.
  31. shade2009
Oh my goodness thank God you are okay.. the driver must hve been in shock... Had one accient a few months back a truck rolled into my car from the side.... I was fine but the side panel of the car was ripped off.....
    1. Stillthinking
Thanks Shade, I am fine and am so grateful it wasn't more serious.

I hope the other guy paid for your car repair!
  32. Deray28
How are you this morning ST?
    1. Stillthinking
I feel great! In fact, I am going to hop on my bike and go for a long ride. I was thinking about enjoying the sunshine this morning and then going to see a movie this afternoon.

I think I am going to see "Bright Star" the new Jane Campion movie this afternoon .
    2. Deray28
Sounds like a good plan for a sunday, don't forget your helmet
    3. Stillthinking
I will never forget my helmet again!
  33. bettieblogger
Sorry to hear you got hit! Glad to hear your ok though... whew!

I found ya a cute lil helmet you can wear on your adventures from now on ... The best part is, it matches with everything

    1. Stillthinking
That is very cute! I do have a helmet, unfortunately, it does me no good sitting on the chair next to the door. I promise to never leave it behind again!
    2. crazyTsu
That, looks like a one breasted bra to me
    3. Stillthinking
Uhm, I can see that too. Haha!
    4. bettieblogger
omg .. it does look like a one breasted bra o_0 lol
    5. Stillthinking
Well, it's a pretty one breasted bra!
  34. brooklynposh
    i'm sorry! SUE!
    1. Stillthinking
I'm fine though! Really I am...
  35. HollytheHousewife
Well that's so good to hear!!!
    1. Stillthinking
      Thanks Holly.
  36. HollytheHousewife
Well I'm just glad ur fine
  37. NYCGirl
    Glad everything is okay.
    1. Stillthinking
      Thanks! So am I!
  38. ranist22
Sorry to hear about the accident. It could have been really bad and it's lucky you weren't hurt. Its amazing the woman didn't get off to look, ask or see what had happened? That's what I don't understand.
    1. Stillthinking
Yes, it was amazing. I was amazed at how wonderful the passerbys were though. So many people stopped to help me and make sure I was OK.
  39. ThriftShopRomantic
The driver didn't even get out?! What a gem she was, huh?

I'm glad you're okay, at least. That's really what matters.
    1. Stillthinking
Thanks TSR! It was an experience!
  40. siralmo
    WOW this is still going...
    1. Stillthinking
People care about my health and safety! It's kind of like an internet greeting card and lots of people are signing it. I feel loved.
    2. siralmo
166 replies is a bit intense
    3. Stillthinking
      And growing. Lots of love.
    4. Stillthinking
I think it would be amusing if this thread kept going to 400+ responses.
    5. TJlubrano
Haha then we all have to keep commenting ^_^!
  41. TJlubrano
ha! I can comment again...or perhaps I always could and my PC was playing tricks on me.

Very glad you're okay Still! I know you are okay, but I just wanted to say it again ^_^!
    1. siralmo
      i concur
    2. siralmo
      you don't like my concurance?
    3. Stillthinking
Excellent! I am sending a trans-Atlantic (((hug))) to you TJ.

Sir Almo, I don't know which direction to sent the hug, west or east. West is my guess over the Pacific.
    4. TJlubrano
@ Still - I'm sending a big hug back to you ^_^ *hugs*!!!

@ Sir Almo - No no, I'm glad you agree.

I now see that my 'oh no' was on the wrong spot. It should have been after your '166 replies is a bit intense'. I didn't realize it until now and I'm too lazy to change it ^_^.
    5. Stillthinking
      Now, I am curious.

Do most people fly westward from the States to Australia?
    6. siralmo
      you can go either way
    7. Stillthinking
In total geographic ignorance and based entirely on watching "Lost", I would think that most people flying to Sydney fly westward.
    8. siralmo
      Yes ^^ BAHAHA!
    9. Stillthinking
I should make more of an effort to understand world geography. Like TJ, I know you're in the Netherlands, but am at a loss as to where in Europe that actually is. It's north somewhere and you speak Dutch, right? And Amsterdam is in the Netherlands?

Actually, I am quite pleased we are friends TJ as I need a couch to crash on when I head over to Amsterdam.

Or is Amsterdam in a totally different country? I am so confused.
    10. TJlubrano
Haha Still! I get the feeling you are twirling around now!

Amsterdam is in the Netherlands. And the Netherlands is above Belgium and next to Germany and yes I speak Dutch.

Although I live in Rotterdam, which is like 45 min from Amsterdam by car. But if you come to the Netherlands let me know !! I hope by that time I have a place of my own! Of course you can stay over!

I would love to meet up & show you around. Hmm I need to catch up with my knowledge tho, in Amsterdam I'm kinda a tourist myself at the moment haha.
    11. Stillthinking
Excellent! I now have couches to sleep on in San Francisco, Boston, St. Louis, London, and now, Amsterdam.

Anyone else volunteer a couch elsewhere in the world?
  42. Theresa111
Just popping in to see how you are feeling today.
    1. Stillthinking
I'm doing well, Theresa! Everything feels fine, other than my allergies have been going wild the past couple of days.

      It's that time of year.

      Thank you for your concern!
  43. owlbarn
I just saw this post. Are you fine? I hate reckless drivers. My husband was once hit by a taxi driver while he was crossing the road at crosswalk.
    1. Stillthinking
I'm fine thanks! Was your husband injured? Is he alright now?
    2. owlbarn
Fortunately, he was not injured much. Thanks for asking Take care.
