I got a six week old kitty from my sister.
Awww...sooo cute!
But, in all reality, I just adopted a kid.
It's so mischievous.
It cries just like a little baby and wants to be held and cuddled.
It bites me (I think), because it thinks it's funny. lol
Yah hear me?
Anyone else have cats?
I need some advice, seeing as I've never owned a cat in my life.

OMG ... this is your first cat? LOL Oh dear. Well...here's how it goes. You didn't get a cat, the cat just got a human
And I wanna see photos.-
well, I'm gonna self-promote my cat blog (my cats have a blog...they make me type it) 3catblog.blogspot.com

My nieces and nephew named it Jaws.
Because it kept biting everyone.
IDK if I'll keep it.
I doesn't know it's name yet, so if I'm going to change it, now would be the time.
I think I'll keep it though so the kids don't feel bad.
I don't have a digital camera.
I will definitely keep you updated though. lol

you're in for fun and torment, both!
they can be really affectionate as kittens, but sometimes get a bit standoff-ish as adults. depends on the particular kitty.
i recommend buying a dog nail clipper (scissor style, not the weird push-style) and get the kitten used to having just the tips of the claws trimmed. it'll help keep your furniture from getting shredded (probably) and the tips won't be so damn razor-sharp.-
cutting the tips of the claw itself does not affect their immune system. removing them can.
and, i have a cat that does not shed her claws. we have to tip her claws once a month or they grow all the way around in a circle and into her paw pads.

we've got four right now. one little guy was separated from his litter and mom too soon (was dumped on the side of the road at about 3 or 4 weeks) - he's never understood cat society. took him about 3 years to learn how to behave around the other cats so they'd let him join the snuggle pile.
we have another one who wont' admit she's not the alpha - so she has claimed the dining room as her space and she won't allow the other cats there. (they don't want it ...)
they're funny li'l things.

It's actually being pretty good right now.
It's taking a nap.
Isn't that the truth with kids too?
They're the best when they're asleep. lol -
So...if I seem to disappear for the discussions...I'm chasing my cat, trying to keep it out of trouble. lol

My cat is black and I gave it a black stuffed animal to sleep with.
It keeps licking it. lol
This morning it was all snuggled up to it. -
It's brother was all big and chubby and furry...
And he is skinny and his hair isn't as fluffy.
It was funny when you put them both together. lol
His brother was almost twice the size as he was. -

Awww, you big softy! Cats are awesome little creatures. Yes, they are mischievous, yes they will turn on you and you will become the pet instead of them, but that's what's so endearing about them
My tip, litter box train early (even if you plan on the cat being an outdoors cat - you just never know) and you can try spritzing the cat with a water bottle when he/she gets on the furniture to train them to stay off whatever it is.
I'd stay away form catnip and use one of those laser pens to keep him or her occupied. (Just DON'T shine it in the eyes, run it along the floor to make the cat run). A string on a stick works well too.
Get a cat tree - they're awesome. Plus the cat will have it's get away spot when you become annoying

I've always been a cat person. What I know is that cats form habits from a young age. So be sure to let him know that biting isnt ok... once he gets older you wont find it so cute and it will be pretty much impossible to make him stop. Keep a spray bottle handy for bad behavior. Make sure he uses his litter box and only feed him his cat food. If you feed him human food he might start eating out of your plate. Try not to switch his food brand too often because it can make him sick. Stick to the same stuff. Also keep him well groomed. Brush him to reduce shedding and clip his nails to keep him from tearing up furniture. You should introduce him to a scratching post now while he's young. Bathing a full grown cat may seem difficult but if you start when they are young they learn to accept that it happens. We bathed our kitten every week and now that he's full grown we bathe him every month or so and we groom him weekly. He doesnt like it but he doesnt fight it either. Don't fall for the easy lift and sift tray litter boxes they are not fun to clean. Cats like things clean. I clean our cats litter out every day and change the litter and clean the box once a week. Also cats like fresh water so give him fresh water at least once a day. If you dont he'll find other places to drink like your toilet. Alright so that's all I can think of! LOL I think it's all worth doing though... our cat Herman is an angel... we raised him right. LOL Sorry for this rambling post... but its all good advice if you want it!

Awww! There is nothing cuter than a kitten. Sadly, I had to give up my cat blog, but I'm willing to give advice as needed. I've been a multi-cat owner all my life. Each cat is different, but they all have certain traits in common like sleeping all day then wreaking havoc in the middle of the night (they are nocturnal, after all). It will learn its name quickly, though you are more likely to get a bemused smirk when you call it. The most effective training tool for teaching a cat what NOT to do is a water spray bottle. They hate it. Just a soft spray is all you need; water rifle is not necessary.
Resign yourself to the fact that your furniture corners will suffer through the early years. Definitely, since it is a male, plan to have it neutered around 9 months to a year old. Otherwise, you'll never get the smell of his "scent marking" out of your home.
Cats are amazing creatures and their independence is what makes them so fascinating. Leave out food, water, and a clean litter box, and he won't care if you leave home for a long weekend. Toys, cat trees and scratching posts are important to keep him occupied. If you don't provide them, he will find his own things to climb and play with, like the drapes, the shower curtain, any jewelry left on the dresser...like I said, toys!
If you have houseplants, be sure to read up on which ones are poisonous to cats. Anything else you want to know, feel free to send me a pm.

If your kitty isn't fixed yet, do it right away. The sooner the better. Always treat your new baby with respect and gently discourage biting ASAP. Keep the litter box clean and provide fresh water 2 to 3 times daily. Play with your new best friend and be sure to check whereabouts before you leave the house. Make sure never to close windows or doors on their small body parts and leave a TV or radio on so kitty will have company. They can suffer from separation anxiety and best for you to read up on everything you can. There is so much education on the web to help you along. Plus you have plenty of pet lovers here on BC to help you along. Cats are wonderful pets and are extremely loyal. They like to act independent, but they need us more than they will ever let on. Adore your kitty and your kitty will adore you.

Best couple tips you'll ever get.
For wiring, lightly soak a rag wish soap, wipe the wires. Kitty will only ever taste it once. And the smell will keep it away from anything else wiped down with it. Don't worry kitty wont get sick, one minute touch of the tounge and he will stop.
For surfaces you don't want him jumping up on.
2 way tape, kitty despises sticky stuff touching feet. If its a high surface, put something soft below just in case he jumps back fast(young kittys bones are brittle, especially in hind legs ankle area).
Training a cat is simple, the trick is to find their happy zone, what makes them happy when they perform for you. Thats the longest part. Once you find that out, the limits of training with a cat are unlimited
Theres a special that airs every year on discovery on cats, they show two hollywood trainers who train hundreds of types of animals. They say cat are the easiest and most trainable of all animals, just need to find that happy zone to unlock them.
Cheers
