    Mauro,

It is true. The challenge we have is that certain people abuse the feature and the way we solved it has caused a problem for members, like yourself who do not spam. The choices we have are

    1. Leave the limit at 2,000 friends as we currenlty have

    2. After a member has been on BlogCatalog for 6 months, increase the limit by another 2,000 friends.

    3. Have a daily friend limit of a specific number of new friends, eg. 25.

    Thoughts?

      Number three is my preference.

Why not keep track of "number of friends added in the past 24 hours" and keep an eye on people with high numbers?

    Hi,
i guess the actual limit is 1800...

The third option in the best i guess. These way members will return to the blogcatalog and they will select the friends to add.

    I understand the challenge
Many people only use the Community to spam!

I like the third option... and, of course, the "Report" option that you have

Is there a way to make the friend feature a request to the person where the person they want to "friend" has the option to approve/disapprove the request? That would take care of it. That's how it is done @ cre8buzz anyway.

I like that idea! I saw something similar in another thread on this subject where someone suggested that the list is of "mutual friends", which seems to be about the same thing.

again .. my thoughts on this..

    1. Leave the limit at 2,000 friends as we currenlty have

    >> YUCK

    2. After a member has been on BlogCatalog for 6 months, increase the limit by another 2,000 friends.

    >> UGGH - all this will do is have people go away for 6 months and come back

    3. Have a daily friend limit of a specific number of new friends, eg. 25.

    >>>> GAG >>> this is one of the reasons I stopped going to MyBlogLog - because of their daily limit to join communities

Another possible option is to consider something similar to STumbleUpon .. instead of FRIENDS .. you are only FANS - until the other mutually accepts you as friend. You can have Fan Requests fall off the table after 6 months .. and maybe a contest for the username with the MOST friends! I would be interested in seeing a BC member with 80 thousand friends (that mutually wanted to be friends)

The 'Stumbleupon' option sounds good, with a few adjustments.

I'm not sure of the ratio, but a good percentage of my BC friends added me, and I responded!

I guess that there are no really easy answers, as you have people like Guy Kawasaki and Robert Scoble on Facebook wrestling with a limit of 5,000.

As far as knowing people 'in person', I think that it is really irrelevant in a sense, simply because of the nature of the Internet.

I know quite a number 'personally' though, after corresponding here, on Skype and Twitter!
