Hey everyone. I've got a bunch of CRAP going on with work right now. It made me remember why I wanted to start my own business. I have a few talents.

I'm excellent with people, I'm pretty good with computers and techno gadgets, but I like to do things that are more creative and art based. I write songs and poetry and I would love to start a metal/rock/hiphop fusion band.

I'm in college full time though. I have a very busy schedule. I'd like to dedicate a few hours to something to start myself in my own business.

I know most of this may be irrelevant but why I really came here was to get some ideas, tips, and insights from you all. Most of you seem to be positive thinkers. Any ideas on something that would work out for a full-time student?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks much. I'm so overwhelmed thinking about situations and such I can't come up with ideas. I really just want ppl to throw anything they can at random. Maybe it's not good for me, but it could possibly open my mind a bit which is very helpful!

Really I have no idea, it depends on you and what you love to do.
My advice would be keep your second activity as a hobby until you have finished with college.
A business is something that needs a lot of attention. As long as you have already started college, it's better to finish it first.

Hmm, perhaps. That's what a few people have told me. To me I think I would love the challenge. In a perfect world I would decide when and how much time I would put into it to directly influence my income. For some reason I still see that perfect world as attainable.

I will never say it's impossible. I will just say weight the pros and cons. And if you decide to do it, I will say best wishes in your projets!

I wouldn't say impossible. I don't believe in the word. In the 1800's it was "impossible" to reach space. Now look at us.

I guess I need more inspiration and people who think "out of the box", i guess.

Really I am sorry if you felt I was negative about your projects. I am not.
some people already prouved it is possible to create a business while srudying.
What I was saying is that a decision take with reflexion would be better.
And you are right, at my age I have started been in the box :-)!

I actually disagree. There are a lot of sucessful people today who started their own brand or business while in college. Its the best time to network actually.
    6. angelshair
Do you two absolutly wants to disagree with me, or didn't you read my post:-)?
    7. lotusb
I read your post, I'm just saying that I disagree that keeping a talent as a hobby until your done with college is the best idea. I'm saying that embarking on a business can be beneficial to do while still in college. Is it ok that people disagree with you?
    8. angelshair
Absolutly ok to disagree with me. It is just that nowhere I said it is impossible.
    9. lotusb
Well I never said you said it was.

I actually wasn't disagreeing with you. I agreed with you. The way I typed it may read differently. I just wanted to point to the fact that it's good to think openly.

the first step is to define success. What does success look like? How will you measure it?

Then determine what one thing you can do now will most effectively move you closer to that picture.

Thanks dude. Sounds pretty good. This is what I need. Just some simple things to help me clear my thoughts. It's so hard to get through the cloud right now.
    2. DaneMorgan
That's a common experience. but breaking things down into their component parts and knowing how to measure them account for a lot.

There are a lot of successful people who aren't anywhere near as talented as some who aren't. But they are much more organized.
    3. scenexg
You make an excellent point. I really need to work on that because I can't do anything without good organization. I can't even focus. Maybe that should be step one. I shall begin tonight.

Dude one thing at a time....baby steps. Patient grinding is the only way to make anything we want to happen actually happen. I get so impatient and want to do everything because I have so many interests. But I think the key thing is to concentrate on one or two things and see them through. I'm a dreamer and start and don't finish stuff all teh time lol. Started a novel and haven't written in a couple of months:(

Well if your into music...and art and all that... you could be a guest writer for my upcoming website... I'm looking for somone to help cover the music scene...

An excuse to go to shows, and hob-nob with some of the artists, interview them etc. Man on the street type thing.
    1. scenexg
Sounds good. I'd love to make the move into the industry. It interests me enough. I just need to be organized! That's my biggest issue. Something I need to work on. Keep me posted. Thanks lo

PS I'm with you on all this man...I feel like I have talents in various things but I'm so lost as to how to use them. I've basically put in 10 years in a PhD program that I feel like I don't care about anymore. The jobs my program trains me for don't feel creative enough for me. I would love to have my own business...dang why can't we get paid to blog, and I don't mean pennies from Adsense. I just like writing...You'll think of something!

I would say to think of something that you can incorporate into your college experience. Students need all kinds of services such as tutoring, typing, resume writing, job search, financial aid search, child care, etc. Take advantage of your surroundings and put your 'people person' skills to work.

You want to be successful financially? Set goals. Period. The easiest and most efficient path to financial success.

Fortunately for myself, I'm financially secure. Too bad my goal setting is futile when it comes to healing my psychological problems. ;-)
