it happens often here; you will get used to it
I've learned to save whatever I have posted if it's worthwhile, because you never know when it will get taken out to the woods and never seen again. -
If it became a link-dropping thread (the posts of which neox has rather thoughtfully provided an example above) rather than a discussion, it may have been deleted by staff. They're the only ones who can answer the question for certain, though.

Yes there is a Shameless Blog Promotion category and what's expected in it is that the member will actually and actively promote their blog in it. That means being able to state what your blog is about and share enough to "hook" other members into wanting to visit the blog.
However, what we frequently see is a link alone in the OP and a pathetic plea for a visit. The forum guidelines indicate that link alone threads are not welcomed and will be deleted.
We also frequently see a reverse approach. A member creates a thread and places it in the Shameless Blog Promotion category tosses a blog link into the OP, and then asks other members to link drop into it and no one does any blog promotion. Once again the guidelines indicate that link dropping is not welcomed and link drops will be deleted.
Other variations on the same theme of getting people to click to through your blog but failing to promote your blog are:
visit my blog and I'll visit yours thread;
comment on my post and I'll comment on yours.
Once again there's no blog promotion - just link dropping.
Here is an overview of what's actually expected in a Shameless Blog Promotion thread:
The Shameless Blog Promotion Category is for posting a blog promotion thread that contains enough information to hook someone and make them want to your blog further, mark it as a favorite, leave comments on your posts, and subscribe to your blog as well.
Using this category has the added advantage of your thread not getting lost in a long thread of other blogs and descriptions, or in a long thread about general discussion posts about anything under the sun, except blogging.
Mastering the use of this category for blog promotion is probably one of the two most effective things a member can do to promote their own blog on the BC forum.
Always include information that clarifies:
WIIFM? (What's in it for me?) Why should another BC member visit your blog, mark it as a favorite, leave comments on your posts, and subscribe to your blog?
What do you blog about? Include a blog description of about 25 words or so. This is important because all bloggers benefit from linking their blogs to related blogs.
What is your brand? What makes your blog unique from all the other blogs in your niche?

This is just my take based on what I was told I first came here. Most of what I learned came from Dane Morgan, MadameX, Thriftshopromantic, petlvr, ender and Mark Stoneman, etc. I also wrote a post for the BC New Users group based on what I learned from them. The contents of the post starts above ^ with the bold lettering.
However, I'm only a member. If you want a definitive answer on anything like these forum categories or policies or what gets deleted and you MUST ask Admin.

I just want to add that I think it's extremely important for bloggers to know how to write a brief and effective blog description for promotion purposes. Admin member, Jaybetee recently attended a conference where they practiced creating what's called an "elevator speech".
An "elevator speech" amounts to being able to create a 140 character description (think twitter) of your business or blog that's designed to "hook" readers or clients, etc. And he created a forum thread for that purpose. www.blogcatalog.com/discuss/entry/do-you-have-an-elevator-speech-how-about-...

@allofarts
Will you please stop resurrecting old posts and adding comments to them that contain nothing of value? Having these old posts flood the front page of the forum is annoying. If you wish to promote your blog(s) then please post a Shameless Blog Promotion thread (See: information posted above), because doing so is more likely to create a good impression with members than what you are doing now.
