Hi all.

I have received an email saying: "I am interested in purchasing text link advertising at some specific pages of your site. Let me know if you are interested so that we can discuss it further. I can make a good offer to make it worth your time."
They don't state any website where this offer comes from. I'm relatively new to blogging so I don't know about this kinds of offers. Is this just a spam, or should I give it a chance?

Give it a chance, but make your own call as to what sites they want you to link to. Also, consider how much cash they are offering for those links. Think about the traffic those particular pages get and discuss accordingly.

Is your Google page rank important to you? Maybe not--I'm not sure that it should be--but be aware that selling text links is one of the fastest ways to knock your PR back to zero.

Well, if he's selling links through pages that already exist, then it should be alright for him. Google might not even notice.

If the rel=nofollow tag is added, that should take care of the issue.

I agree the nofollow tag would resolve the issue, but I suspect someone who specifically wants to buy "text links" isn't going to go for that.

Yes, my page rank is important to me. In fact I had a PR3 with my original blogspot blog, then I switched to my own domain and went back to 0, which means no traffic from google. I´m now at PR2, what´s still not enough since I´m offering some services on my blog and I need Google´s traffic.

If you want to keep your page rank and still sell links you could always offer them nofollow links (they'd get direct traffic but no 'link juice'.) You'd most likely get less money but you'd stay on Google's good side.

It's probably spam if this person is offering to buy a 'permanent' link. I was getting these all the time, where they want to lowball you ($5 or $15) for a permanent link on your blog, and probably want to list 3-5 sites with sentences. Did his name start with .. Fredi ?

No, her name is Barbara C... I think I wouldn´t even bother for just 5-15$ with the risk of losing my page rank.

Doesn't sound legitimate to me. If it were legit, they would have provided a link to their site. I've known other people who have received e-mails like that...almost word for word.

Offer a nofollow link at a monthly rate. More than likely, they won't respond, because that's not what they're after.

That´s what I thought too, any legit site would have mentioned their url so I could check on them.

Thanks for this info. I, too, recently received email and some aggresive follow up to place links on my site ... the aggresive approach made me very leery of wanting anything to do with this so called marketing person (who incidetally had to be forced to tell me he was a marketing person, and the addy of the links he was interested in adding!)
