I have joined Bloggers Unite to support Earth Hour. It is indeed a Righteous Cause. I have in fact created a post about it: newsblog1st.blogspot.com/2009/03/i-support-earth-hour.html

How about you?

no,,i do not support because it does not make sense to me. anyway when working my lasers consume 5kW/hour and many times i take breaks for coffee, cigarests and can not switch off everything, therefore one hour to lunch for me equals as much as 50 people turning off a 100W bulb.

even that number of watts saved can do more in saving this earth.

Yes, I think it doesn't make sense too

It doesn't matter how much power you consume, the power plant will produce as same as it used to be. Even you shut down everything, the plant still need to produce the same amount of electricity.

However, when you starting up after the hour passed, it will take twice of the usual power consumption. The power will be overload, hence taking more source for it to handle.

      that means you're in, right?

I turn off my lights regularly anyway - no need for me to do it in a specific hour.
    1. preaxz
It make more sense to do this.

I'd agree with you but the main point about this is to support EARTH, our planet for just one hour. To solely dedicate to save her. I completely understand that you do turn off your lights but can't we as one world support this one for just one hour?
    3. preaxz
      Of course I support!
Just throwing out my horrible opinion ...

Let's turn out the light ..

    Why just for one hour?

isn't it a work in progress day by day, hour by hour?
    1. mister2mike
as the say this is the start. you may then choose to do it on a daily or weekly basis.

I turn my lights off for about 8 hours at night every night. Plus when we leave for work for about 10 hours a day our lights are out. That is about 18 out of 24 hours that our lights are out during the day. I think I am ahead of the curve. Not going to participate. Got Lost episodes we need to catch up on. This whole thing is getting ridiculous. How about the law California is trying to pass where there are trying to ban black paint for cars. Because that the black absorbs heat and you will have to use more air condition to cool your car off. STUPID. The Gov. is now trying to tell us what color of car we need to drive. This is totally getting way out of hand.

You're turning off your lights 18 out of 24 hours a day? That's good. But, that's not the issue. You're not the only person in the world. The issue is about the hundreds of millions of people around the world that the "Earth Hour" encourage these people to turn off their lights for an hour. 1 hour doesn't make any sense to you right? But The power that will be saved from millions of people make sense. Think of it. One hour for our Earth is not hard to give. Hey, that's only an hour.

I am proud to say that I'll participate in this event.

No I do not. I think it is a waste of both resources and time all so people can feel good about junk science.
