    Purge your mind of any get rich quick schemes you may have and face the facts. We’ve all heard the hype about making millions with our blogs but the fact remains that very few bloggers have the degree of expertise required to produce content that brings in the massive number of hits on advertisements that are required to make a living from blogging.

    The make money blogging niche is the largest niche of all. The competition for readers is fierce and most traffic flows to the A and B list make money bloggers. Other bloggers within the niche tend to re-blog the content produced by the front runners, rather than creating unique content, and that has a negative effect on the niche as a whole, as readers become savvy to this.

    The truth is that there are no shortcuts to making money from blogging. You need to have an knowledge base and skill sets that make it possible for you to “deliver the goods”. onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2008/09/24/how-to-make-money-by-blogging/

    The bottom line is that if you do not know:
    * how to write and create an archive full of quality content that draws reader interest;
    * how to structure a search engine optimized blog;
    * how to promote your blog;
    * how to establish and maintain a faithful and growing readership;
    and, if you have not accomplished all of the foregoing, then monetizing your blog is premature.

    Another point I'd like to make is that anyone in business knows you must spend money to make money. Blogging on a free hosted subdomain like blogspot will not result in making a significant income. You need to be prepared to purchase a domain and to hire a web host and self host your own blog. onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2008/06/26/how-and-why-to-get-your-own-domain/

    There are many ways to make money online without blogging. You will have to locate the associated links for yourself using Google’s search engine to research the following 25 ways to make money online. onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2008/09/30/how-to-make-money-online/

      Timethief's points are totally valid and well put. Principally, relevant content and plenty of it are what will both interest your visitors and the Search Engines.

      You can discover the one thing everyone needs, but if your blog doesn't feature on Google ( you can target all SE's but if G doesn't like you, most searchers won't find you ). Signing up for the free newsletter/forum sites like Webpronews and Sitepronews will give you lots of pointers for optimizing your site, without compromising it's value to your visitors.

      I have been an affiliate marketer for almost 10 years, but basically reversed the advice Timethief gives - I had the website ( www.iol.ie/~murphypj ) for some years before Blogging had been conceived. I now use the Blog to post 'heads up' links to my latest website content, linking back to the site page.

      The blog catches the long tail phrases specific to the item ( in my case chords to a particular song ) and directs the visitor back to the website page, which has both the real content and the affiliate promotion. A search on G for: guitar chords blog shows the blog at #1 and the website at #2.

      The combined effect of the two instils more trust in the visitor, and brings them back to the website more often, which increases the chances of the promotions catching the eye.

      I have a recommended affiliates page for anyone with guitar/music related Blogs, which filters the many I've tried over the years down to the ones which actually convert referrals into sales. It's at:
      www.iol.ie/~murphypj/Recommended-affiliate-programs.htm

      It almost goes without saying, but it is critical to scrutinize the products you are promoting to ensure they give your visitor what they expect, and provide value for money. Ask for at least some vision of the product - for online resources maybe a time-limited membership, for physical products ask to have all or part mailed to you.

      Best of luck!

    timethief is very correct. There's a lot to learn- you can start at www.mlmsurvivaltools.com and learn enough to make a start (and it's free) while you're learning the ropes.

    Barring That- then I've got a company so easy a caveman could do it. And it's free.

    Why is using a free host like blogspot not a good idea? Will I not get noticed?
