Why do you need another script porvider. Nearly all of the scripts out there just offer the social side of things for the sites. They dont offer the other stuff they provide.
Why not try starting up with Dolphin Community Script to start with its free and easy to install. Then see if you have what it takes to get users to use it. -
And, what would you call this new social community .. MyRaffleblogster.com ?
ps crkian .. that's an interesting site... looking at the demo site now. -
can anyone know how much storage space and bandwidth usage for site like this?
At least minimum requirement.
thanks. -
aren't there enough of those sites out there already? what would yet another one add to the mix? without something to make it unique and desirable, it's only going to get lost in the noise.
on the other hand, if you can identify something that is missing from the current social networking sites and offer that as a real value, you might have something. personally, unless you have a really stellar concept, i think it's a waste of time and effort (and money). -

The hard part is just getting the ball rolling. The reason people join a social website is to connect with their friends or look through user provided content/profiles.
When you are starting out, you dont have any users so what is the benifit for the first wave of people to actually sign up and come back?
Once you do get the ball rolling you should be good to go, the trick is getting that initial push...
Thats the million dollar question. -
If you are serious about starting a social network here is my suggestion. I think that you can make a great site if you have a great concept.
Here is what you need to do.
1. Think of a great concept.
2. Go to www.ning.com.
3. Set up your social network and have a go at it!
Ning is very good to use to try out your concept. It provides a stable platform along with the ability to really develop and grow your community for FREE!!!
That's right. You can set up your social network on Ning for free!
Now you may be thinking that it can't be true. Try it out and see for yourself. The rapper 50 cent has even used it to set up his online social site. You can search the web for articles about the structure of www.ning.com. As long as you have a great concept, you can get it done for next to nothing. The major issue you will face is driving traffic, but this too can be handled easily.
My suggestion after you set up your site on Ning is to start a cheap Google Adwords campaign and build your traffic off of a combination of Adwords, networking on sites like BlogCatalog, word of mouth and possibly direct mail. You can also partner with a company and try to get sponsorship for your campaign.
Good luck. It's not as hard as everyone makes it out to be, however, your objective shouldn't be to set up the next MySpace or Friendster. Instead, it should be to set up the next great social network. -
The problem is how can you ever beat out the big guys? That is like starting a new search engine. Everyone uses Google and most will never switch.
It's like whoever did it first wins.-
Tell that to Yahoo 8 years ago.
The truth is if you want it to succeed you have to match your competitors service and be better.
If a company came out tomorrow that gave you faster, more relevant search results than google, it would not be long before it you moved over. There's nothing tying anyone to google other than they give you the best results for your search. Why would you stay with them if someone did it better?
1st step is the right attitude. If you don't believe that you can beat them then you never will.
2nd step is to raise the stakes. Don't just be like them, be better than them.
Google is number 1 for a reason, and they will be there for a long time; but nothing lasts forever. Eventually someone will up the ante and google with either have to die slowly or up the ante again.
