This is a rarity, in fact I don't think I have ever been called that. HUM! Yep, I was called a motherf%$$#@er by a young man from a band on myspace because, well wait for it! I had the audacity to ask why my artwork was used for a poster and showing up on their page.

"I'm very sorry about what happened and the only compensation I can give you for your troubles is this very tiny violin I will play for you."

I wasn't blaming them lol! I was asking who it was because their comments didn't allow guests to comment, and the link to the poster didn't lead anywhere.

for what trail, they didn't actually do the copyright violation, they just called me a nasty name whaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! because I emailed them asking about it.
    2. trailofpen
Well, I won't argue with you about them using your original work for promotional advertisement.

  4. celticmusicfan
I am sure this band won't go farther than their garage
  5. jafabrit
well I filed a dmc complaint with photobucket (the person who used the image to make the poster to promote the band), and with myspace letting them know what, where and when.
How's that for getting me knickers in a twist (I was accused of that also). huh!

Well, just wait until the band's music is being downloaded for free and the band isn't getting cuts for their work... Or someone claims their songs as their own.

They will, to extend a metaphor, be singing a different tune.
    2. jafabrit
Thrift, I will show them what a m. f. is?
    3. Anok

Sorry to hear that. Just reminds us all that some people can be so nasty!
    1. jafabrit
I wasn't nasty back, I responded with a polite thankyou for getting back to me so soon, I am sure you understand how it feels to not be compensated for your music as I am for my art.
      regards

What a nasty response--and you were asking quite nicely it sounds like, really. It deoesn't sound like you went ballistic on him.

But you know--people will often respond in a manner online that they would never dream of doing face-2-face. I doubt he would have said that same thing to you in person!

UPDATE: The record company that represents the band sent me a very gracious email stating they take copyright seriously and they are sorry for how I was treated.
The band member sent an apology.

Since the poster maker is not affiliated with the band (which is all that I was trying to find out in the first place) they can only remove the poster image on the band website and explain to the person why. Good enough for me.

As for the copyright thief, since they didn't respond to me, dmca complaint has been sent to photobucket.

Thanks for the update. Hopefully the DMCA complaint will result in the web host instructing the filthy mouthed little idiot to take image down. If he doesn't then they can delete it and if they so choose they can also take down the site and ban him.

  15. Rozie818
Did you check the source code to see if they are hot linking?

A lot of these a-holes who steal hot link as well.

We had a idiot take a free template from us and sell it to some older couple for $3,000 and convert into a jewelry website. but left everything hot linked to us except for a few images. We changed everything to a jewelry porn site. That got their attention real fast.
Going legal, can be very expensive and if it's out of your state can be a headache and not worth it. Better to expose them and ruin their rep.
