Sign up for unemployment tomorrow morning. This is the first advice I will give you. Cheer up, only good can come from this. This or something better will come to me. Repeat this. Get your resume` in order and do it before you fall into the trap of Oh my, now I can relax. Get these things done first and then relax. I will keep you in my prayers. Like my Dad used to say, "Hang in there sports fan." It'll be okay. We have a new president elect and he really cares. We all will need to pull our weight. Together we will make it! Cheers!

My husband was not laid off yet but their company cut out the christmas bonus. So this year he don't have any christmas bonus and i guess the company won't really last long anymore. So my husband is on a look out now for a new job.

When someone I know tells me they got laid off or let go or fired, I always say, "Congratulations!"
I am a big believer in everything happens for a reason. When one door closes another one opens. Opportuninty is there, you just have to find it.
I was born in Chicago, grew up in the 'burbs and my mom still lives there.
Put a smile on your face, look at this as a new challenge. -
I'm self-employed, and sometimes I think I'd like to lay myself off
but no can do. Yes, I'm definitely feeling the effects of the economic slowdown. I'll pulling in some business by offering specials and otherwise begging. I've dropped my prices. So if you want to get a good price on a one-hour intuitive reading, give me a shout

So sorry to hear of re-emergence of the Big D in describing our current economic plight. Big D, standing for deflation, of course, also means Depression. During prosperous times, even recessions, you still hear much more about the Big I (Inflation).
Over the past 3 months, with the collapse of commodities prices, e.g. gold down 35%, silver down 100%, oil off 125%, and natural gas sinking by 115%, these few commodities alone tell a big story--about deflation, and DEPRESSION. (Yes, I'm afraid the first great depression of the 21st Century.
Get ready. The stories you are hearing on threads like this are only the beginning. -
I'm sorry to hear you got laid off. I know a couple of people who got laid off in the west coast. I am looking for a job so I'm part of the unemployed statistics. The economy is so terrible right now, but on a positive note, gas prices are way down! I have not seen such low gas prices since I was a teenager!

I just started a blog to help with this issue. I just got it up. It's not much now but if you have resources that would be good to add to it let me know. www.economysurvivor.com I'll publish some articles on it soon.

I just had a discussion on this same topic this week too.
Here are some tips to help. I was hoping for a turn out from other BC members who may of had some helpful tips to add to that discussion but sadly not too many had much to say on the Topic.

It's really bad here in orange county, california. There was a job fair about a week ago and the line was about an hour just to get in. Everyone there was dressed up in a suit and tie and looked really desperate. There had to be (What I was able to count while waiting plus while leaving) about 2,000 people waiting, that doesn't include the number of people there after I left. The problem was there was only about 10 businesses there in a room the size of a very small cafeteria. Everyone here is in serious need of a job, I felt really bad that I didn't even leave my resume anywhere, just took off after 15 minutes.
That's not the worst part though. The worst part was while waiting in line was one of those amway type jobs, you know multi-level marketting..They were set up and everyone was flocking to it, leaving resumes and offering this and that. -

I am sorry to hear that you were laid off. I know how stressful it can be.
Your not alone:
My brother in law after 15 years was let go from Worthington Steel in Ohio not long ago.
3 of my cousins were let go from their jobs last month (in Ohio all of them worked at different places.)
One of the guys that was in our wedding was also let go the same day as my brother-in-law (Hinkle Mfg. in Toledo.)
My brother took an early buy out from Jeep last month. Not because he really wanted to so much but was scared of what the future holds if he didn't.
A friend of ours company went to a 3 day work week. I have NEVER heard of only 3 days but they are doing it.
We opened up a company just last year here in Alabama. Talk about bad timing..lol.. We still have our home back in Ohio for sale looking at renting it now.
We are holding on but hopefully things will change soon. -
I was laid off about 2 weeks ago. I was working as an administrative assistant for 3 years for a construction company. It's a very hard thing to go through. Read my blog post I wrote about it though: livingahealthybeachlife.blogspot.com/2009/01/stepping-stone.html#links
Hopefully it will help you change the way you see being laid off!
