If you were to live in a remote tropical island often devastated by typhoons, above average rainful, high electricity cost and limited agricultural lands.

Aside from eco-tourism, deep-sea fishing and aquaculture that would create an economic impact on the grassroots level.

What are your thoughts on development if you were to be asked?

...A typhoon research center? Honestly, if I was asked that I'd probably suggest moving elsewhere.

There is already an existing typhoon research center based in Guam.

If you replace typhoons with hurricanes, you'd be here, in the Dominican Republic ... and I'd also suggest moving elsewhere

well hang on some people you cant ask to move elsewhere because its their home...

    beside typhoons don't always devistate

in terms of development maybe to concider a completely sheltered area, strong enough to take the conditions

      You're right, you're right.

I'd suggest slowly moving elsewhere. Like, one block at a time. It's actually fun because you have new neighbors every week or so.

your right, migration is not always an option to many and typhoons don't often wrecks havoc.

what is interesting with typhoons is the debris it produces free consist mostly of organic waste like twigs, branches and leaves. turning them into charcoal briquettes.

hurricane proof construction, windpowered energy, solar powered energy, hydroponics farming, develop expertise in water removal infrastructure like canals and pipelines. Also export water to countries that have to import.

nice idea, we do have now projects in the pipeline that you mentioned. renewable energies like wind and hydro (but these RE plants is only good to fill-in our present power shortage). solar power is not an option because of oftentimes heavy rain clouds year round.

water could be a potential export in the future but desalination plant technology would be cheaper than outsourcing their water needs.

so does this mean it a real place and your scabing ideas?
    1. islanddweller
oh yeah. its good to find ideas from outside sources.

how much money do you have to burn?
    whats the location?

    are there any cultural conciderations?
    are there any environmental conciderations?
    are there any political conciderations?

these are all basic things we need to know to develop an idea on what to do, i could give you a larger list but these are the absolute basics of what you need to concider in order make things happen
