If they turned Star Wars into a series ala Star Trek the Next Generation (The Clone Wars doesn't count), would it ruin the awesomeness of the movie saga?

And would you watch it?

Well, there is a live action TV series in development, taking place between episodes III and IV.

As for your question, it depends on who's doing the writing/directing and whether it does or does not ruin the continuity of the original trilogy.

I probably wouldn't watch it, since I don't bother much with series these days.

Look at most sci-fi shows these days, You have awesome episodes and then you run head first right into a cheesy filler episode.

The only way a Star Wars series would really be made seriously is if you could make it on HBO or Showtime where it wouldn't be cut by commercials or the episode with a hook to draw the casual viewer in.

And if they focus a bit less on the CGI and more on the writing and characters.

I think the movie saga just got ruined by the last clone wars animated movie imo. A movie about babysitting a jabba? Come on. That should have been a tv show special or dvd release.

The star wars series might do well. I mean stargate is doing prety nicely with the season episodees, why not star wars?

There's a ton of books/series that they could do tv shows off of in the star wars line, so no I don't think it will 'ruin' anything.

They need to make MORE Star Wars everything.

I was a kid when I fell in love with Star Wars. As an adult, I still love it. What needs to be understood however, is it's a movie for kids.
As bad ass as it would be (and to my total delight) to have a grittier, HBO/Showtime adult version, most kids would never see it and they probably wouldn't want to watch it.
Ewoks are stupid, but I don't mind and the kids like them. Cartoon Star Wars with baby Jabbas seems childish because it's supposed to be, but I can still enjoy it.
If Star Wars matured with it's original fans then it would be out of sync with todays kids and fizzle out with us.
Star Trek on the other hand has always been geared toward adults and has enjoyed phenomenal success on TV and the movies, so who knows.
