    Good question.

    R. W. Kenney (my great-grandfather who fought in the Battle of Selma during the Civil War) and my great-grandmother, Lula. So I could tell them how much I love them.

      Good answer.

Maya Angelou because I think she's a phenomenal thinker and writer, and Mary Magdalen because I always prefer the woman's side of the story

Jimmy Stewart and Ronald Reagan. I would like to know about the "true stars" of Hollywood and I would pick Reagan's mind about politics...

    1. George Washington, to see how he felt about the state of the country and the US Constitution.

    2. Jesus, to see how he felt about the various interpretations of the Bible.

Adolph Hitler and Joseph Stalin--to see what made such egomanical, ruthless and pure degenerate evil tick.

    Great question!
My adoptive father (who died when I was 9 & I loved dearly,) and my biological mother (who I've never met.)

I'm torn. In the deep and philosophical sense, it would be Sheldon Vanauken and Thomas Merton. On a personal level, my daughter and my grandmother, because they are the two dearest people in my life and they never crossed paths in this life.

Sir Edmond Hillary (passed away this year) - cause I think he is an awesome New Zealander and I regret not telling him so when I saw him at the shops some years back.

Torn between my nephew and my great-grandfather who was an artist.

    Leonardo DiVinci and Thomas Edison

    Great minds with vision!

      Oooh, DaVinci...that's a good one!

Randall Shughart - the Delta sniper killed and drug through the streets of Mogadishu in 1993 that was posthumously awarded the medal of honor (I named my son after him).

Col. Leroy Stafford - a family member who gained fame leading the Louisiana Tigers in the Civil War. There's a famous painting of him and his men in the railroad cut during the 2nd battle of manassas called "the Diehards" - basically when they ran out of bullets, they hurled rocks and bolders at the advancing yankees until the rest of Starke's division could come to their aid. He was killed later on during the battle of the Wilderness in 1864.

Mark Kermode because his opinion on movies are almost the same as mine.

Stephen King because its his books that got me hooked on writing. Big time.

Well, since I have lunch with my sons regularly, I'm going with Kurt Vonnegut and Joseph Heller. Who'd need a steak knife with those two wits at the table?

Jesus and Nostradamus. But in two different sessions.

1)Donald Hall, because his life reads like a novel, I love his poetry and essays, and because he does his interviews fax-fax. No joke. It drove me nuts.

2)Hugo Chavez because then I'd have an opportunity to toss my salad at him.On him. Whatever.

I've spent the last hour reading your replies and thinking about the twists and turns of the dinner conversations. It's a little dissapointing that some of our lunch guest can't make it, but it's cool that their memories and lessons live on.
  18. Gallego71
    George Washington and Benjamin Franklin
