The world is over populated. There are millions of evil people. There are corrupted structures in place, that may never be uncovered. We are destroying our earth.

If you could start human life again, wipe away everyone, leaving just you and up to a thousand people of your choice,

Would you do it?

    I'd leave humans out.

I did not expect this reply.

I suppose what you're being given is the power of a creator, or god. And for the system to work, we are all that would need to be removed.
Why should the existance of humans be any more important than the existance of any other one species, what we eradicate daily.

This has really made me think, cheers for answering.
I think if it was my world, I might do the same.

Make humans and animals indestructible so that no matter how they attempt to kill each other with bombs and guns, no one dies in the end. Just like in cartoons. I you can't take away evil at least you can make life very tough for evil.

If you make them indestructible, you'd better make them sterile, too, otherwise in just a few generations they'll have taxed the earth beyond its capacity to support them.

I accept only one of your three statements to be demonstrably factual, that one thing being the existence of corruption.

In order to assure no corruption then you must somehow remove free will from the thousand persons who you allow to remain.

No doubt there are evil people, how many I would not know.
But now you have to define in a very precious way, evil, and then using that definition you have to identify each and everyone of them and mark them for removal.

To get down to your number of one thousand remaining persons, you have to murder billions.

But if you were a God (you have to be in order for this ot be possible) couldn't you just remove sin, and thus eradicate corruption?

Who's to say I deserve to live while millions of others are wiped out? Not me!

I don't believe in evil. I think what has happened is, in trying to support our families and children, we have made things more efficient. However, the drawbacks of how we make things more efficient are killing off mass populations of wildlife that are NEEDED for this world to keep a balance ("The cir-cle of liiiife!"). From the decolonization of bees, to the fungus killing bats, to the thousands of dead pinguins, minnows, and abandoned flamingo eggs left on the shores of Chile, we are destroying the planet because of the compassion we hold for our fellow human beings in combination with our unsatiated greed.

Now to the question: Would I do it? No. Because nature is going to do it for us.

    1. The world is not overpopulated. It's still supporting the population that is there and this population is beginning to shrink or stand still in some more advanced countries.

    2. Being evil and corrupt are traits of the human race. Evil involves a value judgement, on both the side of the person being evil and the person deciding that he is evil. You can fix this evil with eugenics, as human traits are largely transferable between generations, but give it a few years until our genetic sciences mature.

    3. There's no point in wiping most of the human race and leaving 1001 people. In your daily ventures, you might end up dealing with only about 1000 people in your life anyway. I'm from the farm, and when I moved to the big city I was amazed that the high school had nearly 1000 people and that I go to this school for weeks without seeing some of the people. People you don't like can be avoided.

But of course things that go boom are a lot of fun.
    1. ariwat
But people you don't like who are avoided can have profound effects on you. Six degrees of separation: Everyone affects everyone else, even if they have never met, and even if it is indirectly.
    2. flamingpoodle
Then you aren't avoiding them well enough.

It would be me and 1000 of the hottest girls on the planet, and none of them would be lesbians.

It would be very successful for one reason.

I would write a document that men and women hold equal place.

My view on the worlds problems is because many religions historically have said ridiculous things about women such has "they have no soul", in many communities they have been considered as lesser than men. If women are given roles in the community, they wouldn't send their children to war, they would not allow the atrocities that the men in power allow

You can start the planet over as much as you want, it will always become the same shit storm I think.

However, if I could keep an eye on it from day one I would ban any form of religion. Anyone who as much as thinks about worshiping something he doesn't know exists is going to receive a lighting bolt in their right eye socket.

    why thousand?

just save myself and Megan fox.. the new humanity will be both beautiful and smart
    1. JonnyDunMind
The first generation would be all that.

The second generation, not so much.

No. Even if I could make the world a better place, I'd decline. Because it'd just be my idea of what's better.

Get rid of wasps and mosquitos
  12. vijayanths
sounds a good idea. But I believe there are much more good people to be left out with me. If you can increase the numbers you are in with me.

Wow, this topic reminds me so much of Five For Fighting's song:

"What kind of world do you want?
    Think Anything
    Let's start at the start
    Build a masterpiece
Be careful what you wish for
    History starts now"

Now it's stuck in my head... good job sir
