Ok so you have proof that god doesn't exist and you have a piece of paper in your hand proving it, but would you actually tell everyone?

I wouldn't simply because of the sheer devastation it would cause, crime would increase 10 fold, depression would rise as people would have no hope and beilef in a better existance after death.

tricky one isn't it.

I'd probably get assasinated by someone first.

OH, that would make a good MOVIE!!
  2. jeremyjanson
I would say if they asked or it became relevant, but I think it would be obvious just from my utter and visible despair at realizing that no matter what I do in life, it will also pass away when an asteroid hits the earth or some petty third-world tyrant hits a little red button.

Or maybe you'll become a butterfly like I will after I die.

I now realize that posting on this discussion was a horrible horrible idea.

      Dear BlogCatalog,

I'm sorry. Will you ever forgive me. I just couldn't help it. I know I destroyed the entire community and caused San Antonio, TX to be evaporated in a giant server explosion after we passed the 5 trillion mark for religious posts, but will you forgive this little dufus? Thanks.

      Yours Truly,

      Jeremy Janson

I have proof on paper, read any book by Zecharia Sitchin.
  4. RogerTheAlien
He mentions me in some chapters!

Is it before or after Marilyn Monroe and the CIA Kennedy Assasination Conspiracy?
  5. Friday13
Regardless of how definitive proof is, people still wo[uld]n't listen.
    1. jeremyjanson
Funny I say exactly the same thing going the other direction. I like DrJays comment earlier about this topic.
  6. angelshair
I would not even think about saying it! People do not really want to know.
  7. Firkroy
SO would this piece of paper glow? How exactly would or could a piece of paper poof something like that? Maybe rays would come off of it and give the person reading it the knowledge.
    1. adamgt
i havent really thought that bit through lol, i imagine that the paper would have some sort of mathmatical code scrawled on it lol or some un questionable proof of our existence
  8. harveyavatar
Aristotle, first, demonstrated the existence of a First Being, and most people seem to be oblivious to that...
    1. angelshair
Hi Harvey, do you have any link about this demonstration, I am interested. Is that something to see with first philosophy?
    2. harveyavatar
      hi Angelhair,
Yes, it is the term of first philosophy - 14 books, no less, thank you very much.

One thing Aristotle does say about a "First Being".
"As pure Act, the First being as First being can only be a spiritual being, not a material being (a being composed of matter and form), for matter is eminently the seat of potency (Aristotle, Metaphysics, Lambda book, chap. 7.)"

Form = fundamental determination or essence
Potency => Aristotle differentiates between Being in Act and Being in potency (eg an acorn is a tree in potency)
    3. angelshair
14 books!!...Ok, I think I will take your explanation, or look for " Aristote for dummies" :-D))! I heard about that a long time ago in philosophy class, but it was like your explanation, very succinct, yet interesting! Thank you.

I would. It's like finding out there's no Santa. Sure you're devastated for a bit, feeling like you've been lied to for a huge part of your lifel but then you get over it, just like anything else.
  10. MissSuzie
I'd blog about it. I've never been one for keeping things to myself.
  11. KN
I'd burn that paper so I wouldn't be tempted to do anything with it. I don't want to be responsible for the chaos and devastations that will surely follow after the release of this evidence.
  12. BrianPhillips
    Which god?

It's important, because it would be nice to know which particular band of militant religious fanatics to hide from after...
  13. morgantj
HA! It is a sad day and an insult to humanity if people can't be good without a belief in god. It is also sad if people can't be motivated or inspired without belief in god.

So believing in a god is the only thing that keeps believers from murdering people, stealing, and exercising other crimes? That is pretty sad. If they didn't believe they would go buck wild crazy eh?

"Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?" - Douglas Adams
    1. Firkroy
I agree with all of that. I remembering a conversation I had with someone that told me that laws come from christian morals. I pointed out that murder and stealing is against the law in Japan and China and they don't use the 10 commandments. He took time to think about it.

"It is a sad day and an insult to humanity if people can't be good without a belief in god. It is also sad if people can't be motivated or inspired without belief in god."

I certainly believe that people should be able to conduct themselves appropriately, be merciful, et cetera without a belief in God, but surely you must see how pointless it all is?
    3. jeremyjanson
@firkroy: Didn't notice your comment before. While you are right about murder and theft, the Western emphasis on civil rights and civil liberties, and especially property rights, does take very heavily from the Judeo-Christian tradition as the Greco-Roman barely believed in these and the Norse-Celtic believed in them to a point but only to a point. And that they still do not have in China and only gained in Japan (which is a much more Christian influenced nation then most people realize thanks to the Dutch) in the last 500 years or so.

If it could be proved beyond a doubt there was no God, no spirit, no life after death, that would create an existential crisis. Why bother telling anybody…it wouldn’t matter. Nothing would matter. If people believed in God or not would be irrelevant. Existence would be irrelevant. I’d just want to get drunk.
  15. BrianPhillips
Let's assume that the proof indicates that there is no god at all, rather than that a particular god didn't exist.

I'm with Morgantj. A large number of conflicts are caused by different interpretations of religious values. To prove (beyond doubt, to everyone) that there is no god would take away those differences.

It would be nice to believe that people can develop (and adhere to) a set of moral values independent of religion. Individuals do so; why couldn't humanity as a whole?
  16. crazyTsu
I would tell, but believers will be believers. People are not computers that can be debugged by correcting the data

errr...I dont have to CNN will
  18. Charolotte
That kind of information would be too important NOT to share.

I think the real debate is weather or not people need the fear of god to behave? If it were proven that there is no god and therefor no eternal punishment (or reward) for our actions would it result in chaos? I like there would be isolated instances of mayhem, but overall people would carry on as usual.
    1. morgantj
Exactly. If believers only behave because they fear hell and desire heaven, I highly doubt that these motivations would satisfy a god if one were to exist. It is a selfish motivation, that relies on reciprocation. Now if a god were to exist, but one didn't believe a god existed, yet one behaved good anyways, that seems to be much more honorable and worth rewarding then only believing to avoid hell and gain heaven.

So for one to say that all chaos would break loose if they were to believe there were no god is to admit that their motivations for believing to begin with were less than honorable.
  19. acousticguitarist
no way because many of those people would be dangerous to themselves and others, they can keep their minds occupied with God
    1. morgantj
It is true that it is used as a way to control people. There are a lot of sheep that just follow the herd and the herder.
  20. Charolotte
@acoustic, too many people are dangerous BECAUSE they keep their minds occupied with god. Or whatever they interpret from whatever god they follow. Religion, at times, allows for deplorable behavior in it's name and offers some kind of reward in the afterlife for it. If that is stripped away, then people would have to make the best of the life they have now, rather than use god to justify horrible actions.
  21. TheCrazyhorse
I am sorry but I do believe in God. We just respect everyone's belief here. If you do not believe in God well that's your belief and you should be respected as well.

Faith is something that you feel, and there is no proof or evidence of existence but yet you still believe. It will never become a faith if you have already seen or touched it.
  22. PearlTrader
I believe in God because I see uncountable signs of God's existence, I can't dare to deny God's existence. I would certainly like to share that with the world so that those who process their aquired knowledge with justice could take benefit from it.
I am gathering such signs. I have recently taken pictures of the seeds of certain type of wild plants to explain my point of view.
Because, I am also working on my language therefore, it will take time before I publish my thoughts in my blog.
Pictures will be published in a few days from now. InshaAllah.
  23. CentricStudios
I would open an anti-christian bookstore and sell the "proof" on t-shirts, coffee mugs, key chains, toys, games and I would pride myself in offering the largest selection of cd's and dvd's inspired by the "proof".
