Discussions

As of now, I am not commenting on religious posts, hopefully they will sink out of existance where they should stay.

Not because of any view, other than people have their own views and shouldnt be continuously challenged.

Would like it if other people did the same.

They go in cycles...a couple of months ago there were so many religious posts that someone commented that they thought this was a Christian website! There was something daft like 12 religious discussions on the first two pages...
    1. dbowles1017
I thought this was Being Christian, not Blog Catalog for a while.
    2. freshtunesfinland
Haha. That doesn't even surprise me.
  2. JonnyDunMind
Thats crazy. I'd like to end this cycle soon
And if I'm not posting on them, een if it doesnt end, I wont notice its going on so much.
  3. Rebecca7
    Like the Titanic?
    1. jeremyjanson
Should we leave the band on board to play jazz as everyone goes to their watery grave?
    2. JonnyDunMind
      Band? Entire orchestra please!
    3. Rebecca7
      No, throw them overboard.
    4. jeremyjanson
So they might be saved by lifeboats?
    5. Rebecca7
      Are there enough?
    6. JonnyDunMind
This boad ain't sinking now. We have *asterix* patches
    7. jeremyjanson
Of course we have enough! Why each one can hold up to 15000 GB based upon the techonlogical advances of the cheap USB hard drive age.
    8. JonnyDunMind
lol, thats a lot of asterix patches.

And as its the same word, it will compress really small if we archive it...
    9. jeremyjanson
      LET'S ARCHIVE!!! AARRRCHIVVEE!!!!
    10. Rebecca7
      The dickens you say!
  4. Agit8r
The last time there was a serious plague of religithreads we were able to cast them out with plenty of logic, science and humanist ethical doctrines.
    1. Rebecca7
      In your dreams.
    2. Epicharis
      I wish!
    3. JonnyDunMind
the problem is the two opposing sides. pls dont turn this post into a religion fight lol.
I'm not proposing proving anyone right wrong. I'm proposing ignoring the treads altogether
    4. Rebecca7
Ah, we're sinking the Titanic and throwing the band overboard.
    5. JonnyDunMind
I personally reckon we're enjoying the music, while watching in amazement as the impossible seems ot happen:
      The icebergs sink
    6. harveyavatar
Same difference. Humanists and most people with a religious faith brandish Kant's categorical moral imperative.
    7. SweetViolet
Can we throw the pseudo-intellectual pedants overboard with them?
    8. harveyavatar
      Those are usually humanists, TT.

I think last time it only stopped when Jaybetee suddenly appeared and started locking all the threads! Where the hell is he now?!
    1. Agit8r
      commenting/dropping youtube links
    2. Epicharis
noooooooooo! he's been taken in! now BC will have to hire someone else to sort him out to sort BC out! eek!
  6. Rebecca7
It seems to me it's currently the non-religious starting these threads.
    1. JonnyDunMind
other than people have their own views and shouldnt be continuously challenged.

I just dont think it makes for beneficial conversation, and should be sunk quick.

Even better, whenever you see a religious v atheist thread, comment on an entirely different topic.
    2. rfburnhertz
      @JonnyDunMind

why should they not be challenged?

Peoples view points on any number of topics are challenged here daily.
    3. JonnyDunMind
I just felt people were getting a bit tired of it, and it would be refreshing to have some different conversation.

Although I haven't done that, I've just floated around in this thread a lot.
  7. TigerXtrm
Can't we just massively report religious topics and hope they go away?
    1. JonnyDunMind
we could do both, I'm pretty sure religious threads are against the guidelines.
    2. TigerXtrm
      Unfortunately they aren't...
    3. SweetViolet
Actually, they are...but unfortunately it is not enforced.
    4. TigerXtrm
      Where does it say that?
  8. JonnyDunMind
not sure which button spammed my comment sorry

A discussion is a debate, conversation, talk, argument, etc. I think that everyone should have the right to voice there opinions and others have a right to decide whether or not respond. There are various types of discussions on BP such as religion, politics, relationships, and the same old submit your blog here links. I think that the whole point of having a discussion is to make a statement and get an opinion. Should a certain topic be discriminated against, no. If thats the case, how about the topics regarding race and gender discrimination. Those topics definitely get people riled up.
    1. Epicharis
The point is that there has never been and probably will never be a discussion on religion here that has not turned into a slanging match.
    2. deoangel
Unfortunately, I think that religion isn't the only type of discussion in which this occurs, SiuilARuin. I think that one of the reasons BC is so popular is that there is an open discussion. I don't agree with everything. Yet, I feel that if there is a "slanging match" thats what we have moderators and a spam button for. If religion offends people, how about discussions about race, or discussions about relationships, or discussions about... I am just saying that where would it begin or end. For the most part, we are all adults. If we see a certain title to a particular discussion, its up to us as to whether to participate in it or not. If you feel that it is going to be a "slanging match", then do not participate in that discussion.
    3. JonnyDunMind
I'm just saying I choose not to participate, and sharing it with other people to get them to think about it too.

I think it'd be cool to have a gender based slanging match for a change
    4. Epicharis
The difference is that religion is a topic that no one ever moves on and the argument continues until someone starts getting personal.

There are lots of people itching for a fight, and there are lots of people who start religious topics that others find offensive, so rather than have the perpetual argument that ends up spilling into other discussions, people should use the Christian groups if they want to talk to other Christians about Christianity, and the debate groups if they want to debate religion with atheists.
    5. jollybee
I agree with SiuilARuin. Personally, I find such discussions interesting and stimulating, but the danger is creating enemies. Maybe it'd be better if we were all more open-minded? Then religious discussions wouldn't have to become platforms for criticism and insult.
  10. acousticguitarist
So, what do yo believe in? :-)
    1. TigerXtrm
      Go away you :-P
    2. JonnyDunMind
Don't, cos I do actually find it interesting

Even if it gets lonely outside those threads, I'll go down with my own ship.
  11. TigerXtrm
I won't make this ship sink *patches up all the holes*.

This thread should be stickied until the end of time. Support the death of religious threads!!!
    1. acousticguitarist
      you are saved too
  12. acousticguitarist
I will convert you, God told me to, you are chosen
    1. JonnyDunMind
      Now thats a different story.
You know Terminator is actually a message to me specifically? It's a warning, I have to be careful...
    2. TigerXtrm
I am chosen to be the savior of this thread. Now RISE!
  13. JonnyDunMind
I look forward to a series of successful bumps
    1. Rebecca7
      How about unsuccessful ones?
  14. TigerXtrm
    Unsuccessful bumps are also allowed.
    1. TigerXtrm
      I say bump o to top o.
  15. JonnyDunMind
I was looking forward to a religious thread coming up, like the atheism one above,

And then raising the Ignore religious posts battleship to the top.

    Like a submarine
    1. acousticguitarist
      I'm considering starting a cult
  16. JonnyDunMind

  17. MissSuzie

    1. TigerXtrm
Those will blow over in a week or so, no worries.
    2. JonnyDunMind
I would like to... the funny thing is our ships ammunition is nothing.

its is quite interesting, I swear I'm noticing unheard of topics coming up at the moment.

Bet theres a lot of scraping going on on the Pure Splogs
  18. CataVorbeste
It is crazy, every where only post about religion and God, someone should make a post about Satan to even the balance
    1. ariwat
Cata, they tried that idea a few months ago ^_^ I remember.
  19. jims
Ok I just began a new cult: the Micheal Jackson cult...any new member here...the first ones get a free sneak preview of a children ward..
