ender has a personality type of INTJ as seen here:
www.blogcatalog.com/user/ender

So, it got me thinking, what are the personality types of bloggers? Does it vary as much as it does outside of the Bloggosphere? Or, is there an element (or maybe 2) that brings us all together... Hmmm! Let's find out.

If you haven't taken the test before (or in my case took a while ago, since I seemed to have changed a little) you can take it here for free!

www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTypes2.asp

It's pretty cool. It takes about 5 minutes and you instantly get your results, including career choices that are best for you.

Then let us know what your profile type is and we'll see if there is a trend... or not!

**Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with the above profile testing site. I will not profit financially from this at all. Though I may write a post on my blog about the results.

I am an INTJ also, in real life. My friends and neighbors would be shocked at my online persona.
    1. OutsideMyBrain
Interesting - so the blogosphere might actually change our personalities?
    2. offendedblogger
I believe that aspects of our personality are free to show themselves online.

Don't get me wrong, it isn't that I pretend to be a different person online or anything, I have the same thoughts here as I do in real life situations but I am just way too shy to express myself in the same way when I am with friends and family.

For me, this is a great outlet to come out of my INTJ shell.
    3. OutsideMyBrain
so more correctly, it allows parts of our personalities to come out that we might not allow out offline. (see my response to Nards)
    4. offendedblogger
I think so, and lucky for my friends and family I keep this side of me confined to online spaces hehe.
  2. nardeeisms
A strong and solid INTJ - To most, I appear bubbly and outgoing. No one would ever believe it. I do. - Nards
    1. OutsideMyBrain
I think that blogging works really well for the INTJ as it takes a lot of the "crowd" factor out of the equation, but still gives you a connection - a very "safe" one AND - you can leave and be alone, at any moment by walking away from the computer... intersting!
  3. jsinkeywest
I'm actually A LOT more nuttier in REAL Life but I'm ok with it.But I'm going to take the test.

My mental health is fine I just react to FEAR in an angry manner
If you think about what's happening today your not worried,so I always
feel a sense of urgency. It's SHOWTIME BABY.
I have been blogging since NOV and since then I haven't drank alcohol at all or been near a cop so thats pretty cool:)
oh the test...Hey man thanks for all the positive stuff on your blog people may not realize that I'm learning so much for all your writing:)
    1. OutsideMyBrain
Too busy typing to get in trouble. That's great! Look forward to your results of the test.

Did you click on the link in the subject of this thread and take the test? It explains it after the test!

So we are a lot alike except in how we percieve things! That's cool!
    2. Clueless
ARGGGGGGG!!! My comment did not come out or if it did I cannot find it, so sorry if I am repeating.

The definitions of the specific descriptors are not how one would traditionally view them, so some people may get the wrong idea it they do not read them.

This is on area that is often misunderstood. Introvert versus extrovert simply means are you drained by being with people or are do you get energized. Many, many actors, comedian and teachers are introverts because although they are able to be out front their energy is drained by being with people and they get re-energized by being alone.

Extroverts on the other hand gain energy from being with people and after a party are ready for more people interaction and are not drained. If an introvert goes to a party, has a great time, interacts with everyone, they will need some alone time to re-energize because that much people contact is draining.
    3. OutsideMyBrain
@clueless: That is so true. I am the Extrovert who gets charged up, by being around people and my wife is the Introvert who gets drained by being around other people. It actually makes a good balance, because I probably cause her to be around more people than she normally would, and she causes us to leave, at the proper time, instead of hanging out until the last person is gone.lol
  6. TimMc
Scored me as an ENTJ (extraverted, intuitive, thinking, judging) ...interesting.
    1. OutsideMyBrain
      That is interesting!

You are an extroverted version of Nards and offendedblogger
  7. TimMc
"ENTJs are decisive. They see what needs to be done, and frequently assign roles to their fellows. Few other types can equal their ability to remain resolute in conflict, sending the valiant (and often leading the charge) into the mouth of hell. When challenged, the ENTJ may by reflex become argumentative. Alternatively (s)he may unleash an icy gaze that serves notice: the ENTJ is not one to be trifled with."

    Well, there ya have it...
    1. OutsideMyBrain
the test is very accurate isn't it?
    2. TimMc
For a test that only takes a couple of minutes, it does zero in pretty accurately.
    3. Clueless
Since I was introduced to this more than 20 years ago, the longer test is extremely accurate if you take the time to answer the questions honestly. This shorter one seems to be pretty good, but may elevate or lower certain areas just because there are less questions. However, it seems fairly accurate, but when it comes to people who are kind of in between you really need to take the longer test and read the types to see which one fits you best.

I have taken it many times over the years and I am always an INFJ, but as I have aged some have become more balanced, but this still fits me to a tee. It makes sense that I'm a social worker/counselor. My blog is about healing, mental health and my own journey which tends to get pretty deep and is completely anonymous. All of it fits my personality type. Very interesting question!!! There are so many types of blogs, I think that you will find all sorts of types with the blogs matching their personality types. Remember the definitions are not traditionally what one would think, so it is important to read the descriptions.
    4. OutsideMyBrain
@clueless: great points! I'm going to create a list that will be seperated by "type" with each persons blog linked to their screen name. This will give people looking for similar content a place to find others with that kind of content. It should be interesting.

You're right that the blogs will "match" their personality. It wouldn't make sense otherwise unless someone had MPD.
    5. globalgirl
Will you create the list based upon what the blogger states is their Myers-Briggs or what temperment you **think** they are?

I never thought about the blog "type" as it correlates to Myers-Briggs, but such makes a lot of sense. I look forward to seeing the list.
    6. OutsideMyBrain
@globalgirl: That's a good question, but I am going to go with what people have submitted to me here. It should end up being a really good tool for people to find "like-minded" bloggers.
  8. momscrazylife
who knew I was an extrovert..huh?
    1. OutsideMyBrain
Had you been told that before?

I think it will be interesting to find out if there is a personality "trend" in the blogging world. So let us know what your personality type is based on the above test link (very top of this post).
  12. donkeySOUP
10 yrs back when i took this test, it was INTJ. However the current one is ENTJ. Seems the weightage for E is just 1%.

NT is sure. However could be a combo - ENTJ/INTJ
    1. OutsideMyBrain
So it seems you are more extroverted now, then you were 10 years ago. But, like all of us, we all have "tendencies" in all of the categories. So, for you, it probably depends on the situation, whether you come across as introverted or extroverted.

You wouldn't know that alot of these BC'ers are Introverts because they appear extroverted in their posts. But, that is what the magic of writing can do.
  13. ender
OutsideMyBrain - wow, so we're total M-B opposites, huh? lol

(i wrote about my M-B results here:

    Your Type is
    INTP

    You are:

    * slightly expressed introvert
    * moderately expressed intuitive personality
    * slightly expressed thinking personality
    * moderately expressed perceiving personality
    1. OutsideMyBrain
@ttiger: Now I understand your earlier comment better. You were saying that the questions on the test could be answered either way by you and still be right. Hence the "slightly" and "moderately", which just means that you are not polarized in any one category and have tendencies for both sides.

That is what I like about this test is that there is no wrong answers! Thanks for commenting!
    2. ttiger
most question depend on the context, i can be very social personae but at the same time i don't talk to everyone.. i chose the people i will talk im very selectif for my entourage.
    3. DrowseyMonkey
So far ttiger, you and I are the only INTPs. Hmmm....
    4. ttiger
      DrowseyMonkey ironic no? mouhahaha

ender you are just a racist anti canadian, why are you joking about us being canadian. this is not our fault if we are canadian, we should have law to prevent people using the C word! insulting people only bases on their canadian origin should be banned and prosecuted [/cry baby mode]

      mouhahahaha
  15. Lucyvp
That's really cool - I am INFP, and two of the suggested careers are writer and web design, which is what I like to do, and would love to do for a living.
    1. OutsideMyBrain
well there you go! I think you are the first INFP so far. I'll be back on later to tally the results. This is great. Thanks for participating lucyvp.
  16. globalgirl
INTJ. Fits me like a glove.
    1. OutsideMyBrain
@globalgirl: Seems to be the most popular one so far. You should read enders post (see link above) it's right up your alley.
  17. ender
    @OutsideMyBrain
we've done the M-B threads a couple of times here, and it does seem to often come up INTJ heavy. i always snicker at that since INTJs are supposed to be so rare. then again, web forums seem to have been created with INTJs in mind!
  18. OutsideMyBrain
@ender: that makes sense. I just started blogging, and though I am not an avid writer, once I get started, watch out. Funny, how we can be total opposites in personality and get the same enjoyment out of blogging - and I'm assuming you also get enjoyment out of the web forums as well.

If I really tried to get analytical, I would try and figure out which area in each personality causes the inner blogger to emerge. I'll probably do that for my article though, not right now though. lol - too tired!

I am so not interested in the careers they suggest at least they commpared me to Mother Teresa. I guess that's a positive.
    1. OutsideMyBrain
Well, they may not have matched the careers right. I think some of that is those "career options" paying for placement. But, hey Mother Teresa..

You are quite strong in your Feeling category... so am I!
    2. Shiley
I think a career is what you make of it. I studied Broadcast Journalism and theatre both very extroverted careers. Because of the theatre I'm able to pretend I'm someone that I'm not when I do anything in the journalism field. I guess you could say I lie. People don't generally know that I'm uncomfortable being outgoing. The feeling thing I totally get.
  20. SomethingJust
I've taken this test over a number of years and just took it again. I am consistently an INFJ. My blog is like an art gallery with unique artisian jewelry, clothing, art, etc...shopping basically. My choice of some of the items reflect my personality type, but it really shows in the posts which are about the artists, psychology, inspirational, Christian and social issues. Thus, reflecting my more introverted, intuitive, feeling self. The organization of my layout reflects my judging side. But, I think initially it looks for extroverted and perception.
    1. OutsideMyBrain
@SomethingJust: Looks like the INFJ's are coming on strong. By the way, thanks for the really awesome comment on my blog.
  21. Arcticulates
    I am an INFJ.
    Introverted 78
    Intuitive 38
    Feeling 12
    Judging 56
I am still reading up on this. But I did find out that Keirsey.com on temperaments says INFJ's are Counselors, which, someone just recently told me, that I should be a marriage counselor, and I told them that it would never work, because after a couple of meetings of whining I would want to knock their heads together and say grow up! So I am thinking Keirsey could be a very wrong on that temperament for me. lol
    1. OutsideMyBrain
lol - I know what you mean, about wanting to knock their heads together. Hmmm... I probably wouldn't quit your day job and go into counseling just yet. hee, hee.
  22. DrowseyMonkey
Ohhh, I did this years ago and I was an INTP ... I just did this shorter version of the quiz you have in the link and it came out the same. I just remember when I originally did it years ago (it was a really long a detailed version) I was almost at zero for "J" which is the detail portion I think...well whatever letter signified that a person liked detail...I only scored a 2 or something, LOL. The person administering the test thought that was funny! Hey...I've always said I don't like details!

I was once told that INTP's represented a smaller percentage of the population, but I don't know if that's true or not. I do like to think I'm unique tho
    1. OutsideMyBrain
@DrowseyMonkey: You made me laugh as you described about your low score on the detail, without remembering much detail about it. lol

I saw that you found ttiger as the only other INTP in this thread, so far. It will be interesting to find out the trend, whether there is a concentration of one type of personality or another.

I've been wondering it we might miss out on a particular "type" of personality or two, the type that doesn't like to take tests, or get too involved in self-discovery.
    2. DrowseyMonkey
lol ... I didn't even notice my lack of detail in remembering the details! HA! That's funny.

Yes, INTPs represent 2-5% of the population if I have my details remembered correctly, which I probably don't ... but whatever ... we're a rare breed.

      That thing is soooooooooo wrong!
    4. OutsideMyBrain
I'm confused... how did you get Juvenile out of it?
    5. BennyGreenberg
      Hmmm - E N T J(uvenile)
    6. OutsideMyBrain
This will benefit everyone... the J is not for Juvenile, or were you just kidding?

The first criterion, Extraversion - Introversion defines the source and direction of energy expression for a person. The extravert has a source and direction of energy expression mainly in the external world while the introvert has a source of energy mainly in the internal world.

The second criterion, Sensing - INntuition defines the method of information perception by a person. Sensing means that a person believes mainly information he or she receives directly from the external world. Intuition means that a person believes mainly information he or she receives from the internal or imaginative world.

The third criterion, Thinking - Feeling defines how the person processes information. Thinking means that a person makes a decision mainly through logic. Feeling means that, as a rule, he or she makes a decision based on emotion.

The fourth criterion, Judging - Perceiving defines how a person implements the information he or she has processed. Judging means that a person organizes all his life events and acts strictly according to his plans. Perceiving means that he or she is inclined to improvise and seek alternatives.
    7. BennyGreenberg
I like my definition better - but yours sounds so official
    8. OutsideMyBrain
@Benny: I got it, I got it! No wonder I was so confused:

That was such a good use of the acronym letters, that I thought you were saying the you weren't that Juvenile... lol and yet! No wonder you said it was soooooooooo wrong. Sorry about the confusion!

      Entirely Not That Juvenile... ENTJ

      Cheers!
  24. ThriftShopRomantic
INFJ is what it tells me. It sounds fairly accurate so far based on what I read.
    1. OutsideMyBrain
@TSR: Thanks for checking. I'll be noting you on the list under INFJ. By the way, which blog would you like me to link to?
    2. OutsideMyBrain
      Got it - Thanks!

BTW - Four INFJ's on the list so far! Second only to 6 INTJ's.

Excellent-- we may be introverts, but that doesn't mean we're alone.

@Outside RE: "You're right that the blogs will "match" their personality. It wouldn't make sense otherwise unless someone had MPD."

It would still be true because each "personality" is a unique separate individual with different personality types, so if the person is consistent in a specific personality that only blogs on blog A then they should match and be consistent. If personality does blog B, then the personality traits would match their.

Or different different personalities do the blog and the test, they probably would score somewhere all over they still end up with a score, then they may appeal to the more middle group. I think it still would work.

Hmmm...is my INFJ showing? That just fits me perfectly!!!
  27. LGramlich
I'm an ISTP...The ONLY ISTP, it seems, sometimes!
    1. DrowseyMonkey
      It's good to be unique
    2. OutsideMyBrain
Being unique can certainly have it's advantages!
    3. LGramlich
So they say, but at a certain point "unique" becomes "alienated from society."
    4. OutsideMyBrain
I'm sure there will be more. As this experiment continues to expand, more ISTP's will emerge. Hey, I'm the only ESFP so far!

If everyone posts an article about their Myers-Briggs type, pointing them to this list, it will grow, and you will have company!
    1. OutsideMyBrain
We have a couple of ESFJ's so far, but I think you are the first ISFJ. We'll know more and soon as I get this list put together here.
  28. Svelmoe
    INTP all the way.
Except when I'm with clients at work, then I act all E, but that's just an act.
    1. OutsideMyBrain
lol - I will add you to the list as well.
  29. DeadRooster
It appears that most bloggers here are introverts. That seems to make sense.

    I, however, am an ENTJ:

    # slightly expressed extravert 22
    # moderately expressed intuitive personality 50
    # slightly expressed thinking personality 12
    # slightly expressed judging personality 22

I would've thought my thinking category would've been much stronger--I spend a lot of time thinking.
    1. OutsideMyBrain
Thanks for commenting - Yes it does seem the Introverts are favored here. It's a great way for them to express themselves and make connections with others without feeling quite as drained of their energy as they would say at a party or group function.

In regard to your third number being low:

The third criterion, Thinking - Feeling defines how the person processes information. Thinking means that a person makes a decision mainly through logic. Feeling means that, as a rule, he or she makes a decision based on emotion.

You probably think about how you feel alot. OK, that was a joke. But, seriously, you haven't spiked in any one category, so you probably bounce back and forth quite a bit in all but the 2nd category.

That's what I like about this particular profile test is that there is no wrong answer.
  30. newward
    Am I the only ENFP?

    Extraverted 56
    Intuitive 88
    Feeling 75
    Perceiving 56

I've taken the test many times - always comes out the same... I do like the description though

    www.personalitypage.com/ENFP.html

As an ENFP, your primary mode of living is focused externally, where you take things in primarily via your intuition. Your secondary mode is internal, where you deal with things according to how you feel about them, or how they fit in with your personal value system.

ENFPs are warm, enthusiastic people, typically very bright and full of potential. They live in the world of possibilities, and can become very passionate and excited about things. Their enthusiasm lends them the ability to inspire and motivate others, more so than we see in other types. They can talk their way in or out of anything. They love life, seeing it as a special gift, and strive to make the most out of it.
    1. OutsideMyBrain
You are still the only one!

  32. julyalim
i'm an INFP, year after year.
    1. OutsideMyBrain
Well, that shows that you are consistent! You have been added!
  33. timethief
I could have sworn I posted to this thread but I cannot find my post.
Weird. Are there two similar threads on this?

    INFJ
    Introverted - Intuitive - Feeling - Judging
    Strength of the preferences %
    44 - 38 - 62 - 17
    You are:
    * moderately expressed introvert
    * moderately expressed intuitive personality
    * distinctively expressed feeling personality
    * slightly expressed judging personality

IMO I answered the questions too quickly and there were so many that I wanted to argue with because they were this or that questions, without any other alternatives. IMO the intuition figure above is a low ball figure.
    1. OutsideMyBrain
@timethief: Yes, there are two threads! I started a new one to let people now that I had posted the results, and this one made it's was back to the top, so people have been leaving their answers on this thread too. So... I'll just keep checking them both. Thanks for commenting. I have added you to the list.

BTW - I know exactly what you mean about arguing over the answers. I did that with several of the questions too.

One more thing - I am thinking of starting a thread for "sports nuts" and maybe another for "tech heads" or something to get them to open the thread since *based on the results* it seems that some personality types just aren't interested in taking a profile test. So the results seem to be skewed toward INTJ and INFJ. Or, we could come to the conclusion that blogging is a great outlet for (I)ntroverted i(N)tuative (J)udgers. Hmmmm... the jury is still out. It will be interesting to see the list grow.
  34. BennyGreenberg
I just like the juvenile part...
  35. Clueless
Your data is going to be skewed because the very nature of blogging attracts certain types of personalities.
