I am part of "Blog Action Day" which will take place on Oct 15th, and on my blog I will be writing about this years topic "poverty". Maybe we can sign up as individuals and band together?

Here is the link: site.blogactionday.org/about/2008-poverty/

A little history:
In 2008, the Blog Action Day theme is Poverty. Bloggers are free to interpret this as they see fit. We invite bloggers to examine poverty from their own blog topics and perspectives, to look at it from the macro and micro, as a global condition and a local issue, and to bring their own ideas, views and opinions on the subject.

What are the goals of the event?

Blog Action Day is about changing the conversation for one day to an issue of global importance. It is bloggers, podcasters and videocasters around the world collectively posting on the same issue at the same time, to trigger a global discussion and to bring to bear the diverse opinions and ideas of thousands of different people.

On Blog Action Day bloggers, podcasters, videocasters and their audiences will discuss poverty and will be educated and empowered to take their own small positive actions. This day is about discussion, idea generation, and education.

How does Blog Action Day work?

From August 15th to October 15th bloggers are asked to register to participate so we can track how many are involved, as well as their approximate audience size. On October 15th the bloggers post on the issue and/or donate their day’s ad revenue to a charity involved in that area. We ask bloggers to try to keep their posting related to their regular blog topic so that posts are individual, suited to the audience and look at the issue in many different lights.

Anyone else in????

I will... can someone help me more

Now that I know about it, I'm in! I'm going to contact some people I know that run an anti-poverty group in my city and see if I can get an interview.

I'd like to participate! However, I'm having a hard time relating my blog's subject, history, with poverty.

    Any ideas?

delicat, that's great! Let me know so I can blog about it on the official Blog Action Day blog.

    rmaxwell142, what's your blog about?
    1. rmaxwell142
My blog is about history! I was thinking something about the Great Depression but I might need to narrow that down since it's a broad topic.
  6. eastonellsworth
Yeah, you could talk about some aspect of poverty in history. The rise and fall of civilizations ... how we should teach other people about historical events related to poverty such as the Depression ... the historiography of poverty in the US or the UK etc. ... How our present world can leave a legacy of fighting poverty that becomes tomorrow's history ... what historical figures did the most to combat poverty or to add to the amount of poverty in the world ... etc.

Those are some great ideas! Thanks! I appreciate it!

    You're welcome!

I hadn't heard of it, but it sounds like a good idea.

Well, I'm working on a new blog that I could do this on without a complete disconnect from my topic, so I believe I'll get in.

I've been wondering where is the buzz on this. Only 7000 bloggers have signed up so far, as against the 15,000 who had signed up by October 15 last year. Maybe most people will hop on at the last minute, I don't know.
  11. eastonellsworth
Good question Jack. Yeah, tons of people really will hop on last minute. We're actually on pace to be very close to last year's total, and we might even beat it and then some given the large number of partnerships we've formed with organizations like MySpace, Heifer International and BlogTalkRadio.

Last year's final tally was approximately 20,000, and something like half of that came in the last week leading up to Blog Action Day. We're actually really pleased so far with the turnout. Poverty's maybe not as instant of a subject to come up with ideas for as the environment was last year.

More than 1,200 blogs have signed up in the past 48 hours, to give you some idea of how the pace quickens near the end.

    Hey folks,
Do i have to publish my post on the specific date Oct 15?
Can I publish it before 15th oct.
  13. eastonellsworth
Before is fine. If possible, just register at the site and use the tracking code it gives you to use in your blog post. That way it gets officially tracked. But what really matters is that YOU make some kind of change happen - even if only in yourself. This is a time for us all to stare poverty in the face. It's scary, especially with the world in economic crisis right now. But we have to talk about it.

If anyone has ideas on what to actually do next Wed, please leave them here:

Yeah, I might miss the day, I am trying to get something on the World Bank site....timing might be tricky.

That's pretty cool. I think I'll take part in that too. I haven't really been part of a blog action day, but I did write a blog on breast cancer awareness month.

I have noticed 3 posts on this Blogger Action Day topic are currently running on the forum so I asked thegoodknife if he would consider making a single sticky post for us to avoid the multiplication of threads on the same topic. www.blogcatalog.com/discuss/entry/blogger-action-day#comment_628305
