Tomorrow I will be meeting up with Claire! (Crpitt)

Yay! I have plans to torture and exhaust her. Muwahahaha.

Why not take this moment to share some stories about meeting online friends in real life.

I've never done it, so tomorrow will be my first experience meeting a not so total stranger in real life. I'll have to update this thread tomorrow night, but in the meantime - what's your story?

  2. momscrazylife
I have never had the honors, but I hoping one day I'll be able to meet "The Fly"..
    1. thefly
aww, thanks dani. I hope one day I can meet you too. That would kick so much ass. We'll roll up and down the streets like straight up gangstas and maybe grab some coffee, haha.

      buzz buzz
    2. Anok
      RAWR! Me too.

Uh, Uhm, I mean, yeah, he's cool
    3. momscrazylife
      Mmmmmm coffee....
    4. Anok
Oh damn, the Fly distracted me from my coffee....runs off for more...
    5. thefly
haha, Anok, You might have to take a cold shower now. I would love to meet you too Anok, get me some ninja trade secrets.
    6. Anok
      Ninja don't like cold showers.

      We bathe in lava.
    7. thefly
haha, well that does it. If you have a bathtub filled with lava, Im definitely visiting you. I cant pass up seeing a ninja bathe in lava.
    8. Anok
I'm telling Anin, he might get mad at you.

      !
    9. thefly
I think he would want to see a ninja bathe in lava as much I would, haha.
    10. Anok
      Damn, I think you're right...
  3. howisbradley
I chatted with a guy for a couple of years online. Finally one day we decided to meet for coffee. That was over 3 years ago and we're still together. We married last June.
    1. momscrazylife
Awww ok , now that was such an awesome story. I'm glad that it worked out.
    2. Anok
      Awwwww! ♥
  4. DrowseyMonkey
Very cool! Can't wait to hear all about the adventures.

Not bad, you have Claire visiting, I have Olga, LOL.
    1. Anok
I heard they crossed paths somewhere along the way...but Olga was on a plane

I wanted to go down to PA and meet Jen and JD too. But alas, my transmission hates me!
  5. CrystalRaven
that is very cool anok! I chatted with a bunch of ladies for a couple of years and then we started doing a weekend retreat once a year
    1. Anok
That sounds cool, how does it work out?
  6. ChicaX
Right on! I cannot wait to hear about it all. She must be a zombie, I bet she hasn't slept a wink since she stepped foot on american soil! lol. have a blast ladies.

As for me I hope to meet a few bloggers IRL someday, I have some very strong friendships and have some hugs to give away
    1. Anok
There have been a few people I would love to meet over the years. It's just never happened.

      Until tomorrow!
  7. kristilinauer
    I've only met one...and I married him!
    1. Anok
      Aaawww! ♥

Jeez Louise you guys! Everyone is all gettin' married and romantic
  8. aningeniousname
Apart from the obvious sexual excitement of seeing a Brit in real life, you must realise that a Brit isn't just a toy and middle eastern adventures are not par for the course, having said that photos of the Anok/crpitt sexual summit would be gladly albeit sorely received.
    1. Anok
You would so be a great toy for me
    2. aningeniousname
I said photo's of your transatlantic pervery would be much appreciated, course you have no legal obligation to show us what have have been filthily and painfully engaged in but I think we can all agree there is definitely a moral obligation.
    3. Anok
But who will take the photos?
    4. thefly
      I will.

      buzz buzz
  9. CrystalRaven
oh its amazing, we rent a cottage on a lake, no kids, no husbands, camp fires, sleeping in, some wine, some beer, lots of great food (everyone brings some) and we all get along greatly!
    1. Anok
I remember years ago there were a few ladies from an old forum who would do that. very cool.
    2. ranist22
how about lots of wine instead of some wine?
  10. seaglassorganic
I have never done this but if I were you I would definitely sneak up on her first. Just to be safe...
    1. Anok
      Ha! LOL

I am ninja, hear me sneak!
  11. voodooKobra
Awesome! Maybe crpitt will disarm all of your landmines and trip-wire Thermite explosives so the path is cleared for when I plan on visiting.
    1. Anok
I think she was hoping you would do that first
    2. voodooKobra
No; I'm the melee fighter, remember?
    3. Anok
      Oh, no, I forgot.

      need more coffee...
  12. thefly
Does your house have this in front?

    pic_959919001189376432.jpg

    buzz buzz
    1. Anok
No, but now that you mention it...

      I NEED that!
    2. thefly
Better get one so those who are going to visit can find your house easily; because you know, everyone should know where to find a Ninja, haha.

      buzz buzz
    3. Anok
      Wait, isn't that what I don't want?
    4. thefly
      No, you definitely want that.

Especially if I come visit so that I can find you quickly and easily. You can hide inside your house as I wonder about aimlessly inside looking for you and you are just talking to me from the shadows. That would awesome, haha.
    5. Anok
      It's all planned then!

      Wait, should I be worried?
    6. thefly
Worried of thefly, no way, haha. Wait, should I be worried? Dont Ninjas have katanas? That is way more dangerous than a fly swatter, haha.
  13. Shiley
Have fun! I've never met online friends before either.
    1. Anok
What do you think, calm day of sight seeing, or should I make her hike up a treacherous waterfall?
    2. Shiley
Waterfall would be the ultamate! How big of a waterfall are we talking? If it's puny then the sight seeing.
    3. thefly
Just make sure the hike doesnt turn into "Deliverance."
    4. Shiley
Ok that was weird I opened this thread while looking at a blog with music. Celine Dion singing The Heart goes on. Kinda creepy fly.
    5. thefly
I know, that movie was creepy, thats why i was warning Anok, haha.
    6. Shiley
I had to watch Deliverance in High School and do a paper on it. That was also the last time I ever saw that movie. Harold and Maude is the next creepiest wich I had to watch in school too and do a movie review.
    7. Anok
      LMAO
  14. TonyB
Anok, make sure you search her before going hiking. Did you ever watch her freaky hiking video. She isn't well.
    1. Anok
What?! And ruin all of the excitement?
    2. TonyB
      that's funny
  15. LGramlich
Give her a hug for me, would you?
I've met a few online people in "real" life. Most of them were pretty cool, I have to say. A couple of boneheads, of course. One of them earned me a free trip to NZ for New Years' 2000, but the best one ended up with me married to Mr. Right & living happily ever after (so far.)
    1. Anok
      Awww! ANother one!
  16. timethief
    @Anok
Cool beans. Don't make big plans - improvise.
I've never met anyone in person that I first met online.
    Hugs for both of you.
    1. Anok
I think taht will happen - I mean, It's Claire we are talking about!
  17. Anniepooh
I've met several people IRL and it was totally fun! Have a blast (cause I know you will) and hug her for me since I missed my chance
    1. Anok
Aww, I will give her a hug.
Then she will exact her revenge for all the sappiness...hopefully not on me!
    2. Anniepooh
Oh - and tell her Happy Birthday from all of us at BC
  18. harleyblues
Years ago I met my matey who lives in Derbyshire, I surprised her with a ticket to see Paul McCartney on the Mersey River, in Liverpool, while she & my personal assistant did my hair getting ready for the gig...

Most people I have met from online have been pretty cool not eveyobe tho:)
    have fun!
    hb~
  19. crpitt
I am not happy about all this inappropriate hugging but I am excited about meeting the ninja!
    1. globalgirl
Take pictures of Anok (without the mask) and post 'em
    2. Theresa111
Hope you and Anok have a marvelous time! My (cat) Bobby says "Whannh" He cannot say Meow. Party and enjoy!!!
  20. voodooKobra
I met a bunch of people in Clearwater, FL during the "Project Chanology" events earlier this year. Most of them were annoying, whiny, needy douchebags so I don't remember anyone's name.
  21. Theresa111
Anok, We are so glad you get to meet Claire! Hugs from me and Bobby (meow)
  22. PetLvr
I met lots of internet friends back in the mid-1990's when it was cool to meet internet friends and get pissed drunk or, meet your future spouse online!~ (Toronto, London CAN, London UK, Stockholm, Sweden)

Never got around to meeting internet friends at blog conferences, and such - as I have yet to go but, I imagine it could be fun tweeting people and then sneaking up behind them and saying "Boo". I used to go to IT shows also in the mid 1990's (pre-win95) but, it was a different type of drunk fest - alone in the hotel room (Toronto, Vancouver, etc) with my gadgets! 8D

I'm not sure if you got my tweet earlier, but I suggested that you create an account at TwitPic and take pictures with your camera and upload them so we could live vicariously through your pictures.
  23. Profitimo
have fun!!! theres this online travel network called couchsurfing, and people contact each other to host them on the places theyre going to visit. last month me and my friends hosted a french and german guys, so much fun.it makes the world smaller and traveling cheaper.
  24. carlgalloway
    Wish her a happy birthday!
  25. Xight
Don't forget to steal Willie away.
  26. CrystalRaven
may I ask which forum? maybe it was us lol
  27. fated82
I meet people from the internet as well. Wow, I can understand your excitement. But it will fade the moment the person turns up.
  28. kdawg68
I'm jealous. I've been stuck battling a siege of invading wasps. Pictures up on facebook if interested of the carnage
    1. RTBjr73
Buy a couple of cans of cheap Aquanet hairspray, and spray the nest a couple of times a day. You get the same results from expensive cans of WASP killer cans of Raid.
    2. kdawg68
Sounds good - but the wife is allergic and all the websites I"ve read about these particular wasps indicate they are quite vicious and that only professionals should go near the nests.

Of course, the 'professionals' haven't been able to locate the latest nest. They got 2 that were in our soffets, but it seems one is in our wall somewhere now.

Just the thought of a "queen", laying eggs, etc. makes me want to break out the flame thrower, duct tape it to my pulse rifle (with grenade launcher) and go into the hive. I'll just need to be careful not to actually fire my weapons in the nest so as not to puncture the cooling system for my in-home thermo nuclear reactor.
    3. thebigandyt
try tricking them into the cargo bay and flushing them out into space
    4. kdawg68
Good idea. If all else fails I set the self destruct device on the house and try to get away in my escape vehicle. I should probably fuel that up to be ready. I'll send Parker and Lambert to get the fuel.
    5. thebigandyt
      Don't forget Jones

do wasps make honey? you see them getting stuff out of flowers like bees, why don't you make friends with them, they might let you have some honey
    6. kdawg68
That's a good question....I'm not sure. I like honey, until I start thinking about how it's made.

Not sure if this will work - hotlinking to my photos on facebook. Here's one scene of the battleground that has become my upstairs bathroom:

      edit: didn't work.

      Try this URL:

      www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=92140&l=67c3d&id=1343236114
    7. thebigandyt
      The Carnage!!!

can you plug up any holes with some plastercine, at least that might keep them in the walls.

In fact thats worse, whole colonies of wasps living in your walls.
  29. ThriftShopRomantic
Claire's a gem. I was lucky enough to meet her and Techfun over the weekend. Lovely people-- I hope you and Claire have a blast, Anok!

You can read a bit about my trip here:

    cabbages-n-kings.blogspot.com/2008/09/cabbagey-roadtrip-revelations.html
  30. jadedconformist
Does anyone here live in Jacksonville, FL? Cybering only gets you so far.
    1. calais50
Wish I did. I would like to meet you.
    2. jadedconformist
Thanks! Likewise! I go northward often (Atlanta, etc), so I'm sure we can get a group together and make this happen one day.

I've never met a real life internet person.
  31. melindaville
I teach classes online and have had the experience of meeting both online colleagues and students in the 'real world.' It's always an interesting experience because what I have often done is to piece together a person that I feel I know--one who lives in my imagination. Of course, the person is real--but my image is different from the reality I meet.

We see photos of people but they don't tell the entire story. Seeing people 'in action' is so different. I have been so surprised when some of the people have certain characteristics that are unexpected. It's been great fun to meet online friends.

Have a lot of fun with your friend!
  32. Ranu
Hey, have fun...and don't forget the torture part. I will get an article to update my blog
  33. thebigandyt
When i worked in a haulage company i used to spent most of the day with customers, knew tonnes of them better than i knew my co-workers, wish i could have met them.

Have a great time Clare and Anok
  34. Jeunelle
I never met anyone as yet and not so sure I would like to
but she seems really cool. Hope it goes well for ya Anok.
