Tomorrow I will be meeting up with Claire! (Crpitt)
Yay! I have plans to torture and exhaust her. Muwahahaha.
Why not take this moment to share some stories about meeting online friends in real life.
I've never done it, so tomorrow will be my first experience meeting a not so total stranger in real life. I'll have to update this thread tomorrow night, but in the meantime - what's your story?

I chatted with a guy for a couple of years online. Finally one day we decided to meet for coffee. That was over 3 years ago and we're still together. We married last June.
-
Very cool! Can't wait to hear all about the adventures.
Not bad, you have Claire visiting, I have Olga, LOL. -
that is very cool anok! I chatted with a bunch of ladies for a couple of years and then we started doing a weekend retreat once a year
-
Right on! I cannot wait to hear about it all. She must be a zombie, I bet she hasn't slept a wink since she stepped foot on american soil! lol. have a blast ladies.
As for me I hope to meet a few bloggers IRL someday, I have some very strong friendships and have some hugs to give away

Apart from the obvious sexual excitement of seeing a Brit in real life, you must realise that a Brit isn't just a toy and middle eastern adventures are not par for the course, having said that photos of the Anok/crpitt sexual summit would be gladly albeit sorely received.

oh its amazing, we rent a cottage on a lake, no kids, no husbands, camp fires, sleeping in, some wine, some beer, lots of great food (everyone brings some) and we all get along greatly!
-
I have never done this but if I were you I would definitely sneak up on her first. Just to be safe...
-
Awesome! Maybe crpitt will disarm all of your landmines and trip-wire Thermite explosives so the path is cleared for when I plan on visiting.

Anok, make sure you search her before going hiking. Did you ever watch her freaky hiking video. She isn't well.
-
Give her a hug for me, would you?
I've met a few online people in "real" life. Most of them were pretty cool, I have to say. A couple of boneheads, of course. One of them earned me a free trip to NZ for New Years' 2000, but the best one ended up with me married to Mr. Right & living happily ever after (so far.) -
@Anok
Cool beans. Don't make big plans - improvise.
I've never met anyone in person that I first met online.
Hugs for both of you. -
I've met several people IRL and it was totally fun! Have a blast (cause I know you will) and hug her for me since I missed my chance

Years ago I met my matey who lives in Derbyshire, I surprised her with a ticket to see Paul McCartney on the Mersey River, in Liverpool, while she & my personal assistant did my hair getting ready for the gig...
Most people I have met from online have been pretty cool not eveyobe tho:)
have fun!

I met lots of internet friends back in the mid-1990's when it was cool to meet internet friends and get pissed drunk or, meet your future spouse online!~ (Toronto, London CAN, London UK, Stockholm, Sweden)
Never got around to meeting internet friends at blog conferences, and such - as I have yet to go but, I imagine it could be fun tweeting people and then sneaking up behind them and saying "Boo". I used to go to IT shows also in the mid 1990's (pre-win95) but, it was a different type of drunk fest - alone in the hotel room (Toronto, Vancouver, etc) with my gadgets! 8D
I'm not sure if you got my tweet earlier, but I suggested that you create an account at TwitPic and take pictures with your camera and upload them so we could live vicariously through your pictures. -
I'm jealous. I've been stuck battling a siege of invading wasps. Pictures up on facebook if interested of the carnage
-
Sounds good - but the wife is allergic and all the websites I"ve read about these particular wasps indicate they are quite vicious and that only professionals should go near the nests.
Of course, the 'professionals' haven't been able to locate the latest nest. They got 2 that were in our soffets, but it seems one is in our wall somewhere now.
Just the thought of a "queen", laying eggs, etc. makes me want to break out the flame thrower, duct tape it to my pulse rifle (with grenade launcher) and go into the hive. I'll just need to be careful not to actually fire my weapons in the nest so as not to puncture the cooling system for my in-home thermo nuclear reactor.

That's a good question....I'm not sure. I like honey, until I start thinking about how it's made.
Not sure if this will work - hotlinking to my photos on facebook. Here's one scene of the battleground that has become my upstairs bathroom:
edit: didn't work.

I teach classes online and have had the experience of meeting both online colleagues and students in the 'real world.' It's always an interesting experience because what I have often done is to piece together a person that I feel I know--one who lives in my imagination. Of course, the person is real--but my image is different from the reality I meet.
We see photos of people but they don't tell the entire story. Seeing people 'in action' is so different. I have been so surprised when some of the people have certain characteristics that are unexpected. It's been great fun to meet online friends.
Have a lot of fun with your friend!
