As a number of people that visit the Blogcatalog Community know, I blog about acoustic guitar.

What happened yesterday was I received an email from a company that makes some worlds best acoustic guitars. They are heading into a new area and a guy from their marketing dept sent a casual email to ask me to put a link to a particular part of their site. These guys can easily pay big money to advertise and they often do. This may not seem like a big deal.

Why is this important for bloggers?

For me, it shows that large organisations are now seeing he relevance of social networking and the need for cross linking for them to create a greater web presence. This may not seem like much to many people but I'm confident it implies a major shift in the web and marketing in general.

I noticed I was getting some requests and wasn't sure about them, but I might consider if they are art related.

I have been getting a steady stream of emails of people requesting links from my site.
I currently don't have any advertising on my blog apart from entrecard, blog of the day and my normal links to other blogs.
Like Jafabrit, I have been a little unsure. One person that contacted me informally the other day, I have written back to and requested links to their site....to see if it is something I would endorse.

There's always link requests, I throw most of them away, even if they are related. But what was of interest for me of the shift by companies that make millions of dollars per year making requests of bloggers.

    Good for you.
I often get requests for link exchanges and also from various people wanting to advertise on my blog. I got so many that I no longer reply to them I just delete.

Do you think it will be beneficial to your readers? Will they say, "Wow, AG has great taste in music, lyrics, AND instruments!" or "Hey, this looks like a great place to buy an acoustic guitar!"? If so, go for it.

Well done Tony, your blogging efforts are being rewarded. I was sent a CD to review by a recording company.

Good thing to think about. If you agree to cut a deal, get it in writing and have them pay you ahead of time ... like car insurance. Be Smart!
