Since I have started my blog I spend more time than ever behind my computer. Besides the actual blogging activities I as well spend a lot of time on online networking. Looking at the hundreds (and sometimes thousands) of friends some people have I can't help thinking that they must not have a lot of tangible friends. In how far is our social life influenced by all modern technological developments?

How your social life has been influenced by technological developments like Telephone, Mobiles, Auto and Aeroplane? but now socialism is influencing ONLINE technology.

There's really no valid parallel there, because when people got telephones they didn't start randomly dialing numbers or just picking up the phone and hanging out to see who was there...they used them to communicate with people they already knew.

Well, I have to disagree because in junior high school my friends and I spent a lot of time randomly calling people!

That is about the time I learned that yes, my parents did read the phone bill carefully, and no, it wasn't funny or wise to call random people outside my area code.

Mine really isn't that much I have Facebook and Myspace but I spend less than 30 minutes on them daily and have gone weeks without logging into either. I prefer to actually get together with people in real life.

For me, I live in a rather remote part of Idaho which limits my social outlets and most of my neighbors are either rich snobs or Mormon (often both). I am not a snob or a Mormon, so naturally that isolates me from many people who are closest to me in person.

Some of the best people I have ever met are online, and I am thankful for each and every friend I make. Regardless of what some "experts" would have us believe, online friendships can be just as good, if not better, than offline ones.

Your social life means how you interact with the people around you. Communication is part of your social life.

lol, great discussion...I spend a lot of hours online. Part of it is I'm a one woman show, I have to promote, write, put together etc. But I enjoy it and I'm very new to blogging so I think the hard work is now and it will get easier later. But I think I'd rather put my time into my blog than myspace, facebook, etc
